Robert Pattinson & Reese Witherspoon Start Work On Their New Film
Circus, act

Earlier this week we saw a fun photo of Robert Pattinson showing off his new shorter hair’do on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and we learned that he clipped off his hair for a role in the new film currently in production Water for Elephants. Today we get our first look at R. Pattz (and his new ‘do) on the set of Elephants which is filming this week here in SoCal:

Robert Pattinson has kicked off the principal photography for “Water for Elephants”. Now, several pictures during the production process have hit the web, mostly featuring the lead actor wearing a shabby outfit. In some photos, Pattinson was seen shooting a scene with a co-star, while in some other shots he was captured pulling out a black horse from what looks like a train. Since the film uses a traveling circus as the background of the story, elephant is also seen around the shooting location while a big tent is built on the set … In the movie, Robert Pattinson stars as Jacob Jankowski, an orphaned veterinary student who is put in charge of caring for the animals in a traveling circus. His character will later fall in love with beautiful equestrian rider Marlena, played by Reese Witherspoon. Unfortunately, Marlena has married to the troupe’s charismatic but dangerous animal trainer August. Francis Lawrence serves behind the lens for this drama film, with the script provided by Richard LaGravenese. Gil Netter, Erwin Stoff and Andrew Tennenbaum produce “Water for Elephants” which is slated to arrive sometime in 2011.

I hear the novel which this film is based on is a fantastic read but I have to admit, the story doesn’t really sound like it’ll be my kind of film. I have to say, tho, that it’s great to see Rob taking on as many different roles as possible in the wake of his insane Twilight fame. I might be interested to see him in a film opposite Reese Witherspoon … and speaking of, Reese was also spotted on the set of Water for Elephants this week. After the jump, check out a couple photos of Rob and Reese on set together …

I’m quite curious to see what the on-screen chemistry will be like between these two. As I said, the story doesn’t sound all that appealing to me but, who knows … by 2011 I might be interested in seeing this film. What do y’all think of this new film project for R. Pattz and Reese. Have any of y’all read the book? Is it worth checking out?

I enjoyed the book. It’s a bit of a slow read at first, but once you really commit to reading, it pulls you in…the characters are wonderfully written and the story is a little heartbreaking…but definitely worth the read before the movie.

  2. TheTobin says:

I wasn’t interested in the story at all, but my friend made me read it and I’m really glad she did. It ended up being one of my favorite reads of last year.

  3. Danielle says:

Trent, you should give the book a try! The plot is not what you would expect, at all, and the writing is fantastic. I think you would really enjoy it, and enjoy the movie more if you read it first!

  4. g says:

I loved the book. My friend let me borrow it last year and I just recently gave it back. Everytime I read it, I found something new to enjoy about it. I hope the movie stays true.

  5. syslak says:

I love love loved the book. It was recommended to me a few times, but I only read it when my book club selected it.

  6. Nicole says:

Definitely give the book a shot. It’s well worth reading and the story is much more interesting than this clip makes it sound. I’m curious to see who they’ve cast as some of the supporting characters.

  7. Diana says:

I’m not so sure about their screen chemistry as they’ve worked together before. Rob Pattinson played Reese Witherspoon’s son in Vanity Fair but got cut out last minute, it was a small part, but I’m excited to see this movie nonetheless.

  8. Madsme says:

The book is amazing! I loved it and would totally recommend it. I have no idea how they’re going to do the elephant scenes, but I’m pretty much 100% that I don’t want to see it. Sometimes a book’s so good you just don’t want to ruin your mental picture.

  9. Ally says:

The book is one of my favorites so I really want them to get the movie right. And I love Reese, but she is too old for the part. It’s just going to be weird.

  10. ashley says:

The book is FANTASTIC and the script was just as great. It’s Oscar worthy material for many of the actors involved.

  11. jen says:

I AM SO EXCITED! THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK!!! I hope this will open up this amazing story to a whole new audience!

  12. Ryann says:

Ok so the book is AMAZING!! but it looks like the movie is already screwed because the character Reese Witherspoon plays (Marlena) is in the book 21 and a brunette, and the character Pattinson plays (Jacob) is a tall and lanky red head and polish!!! And in the book Marlena is younger than Jacob sssooo just based upon casting they have changed things around! so im really dont think the movie will be the same as the book which is sad because the book is ssooo good!

  13. jen says:

I think, despite not being a redhead, Robert will be a perfect Jacob, tall and lanky, softspoken but strong.

  14. Em says:

I had NO clue they were making this book into a movie. Water for Elephants is one of my favorite books ever, I read it on a vacation a few years ago and have read it a few more times since then. I would definitely recommend it!!

  15. Jerseyhater says:

Great book! Probably won’t pan out as a movie, but the book is a fantastic read. Yay elephants!

  16. Laura says:

I loved the book…and somehow I see the movie being almost like a Nicholas Sparks movie (think Notebook with the flashbacks)

  17. Kendall says:

I loved the book. I’m just really hoping Robert Pattinson doesn’t ruin this book for me too.

  18. margie says:

Rob is perfect for this role. I’ve read the book and script, and when I saw the first pics of Rob in costume, hair, smudges of dirt, and with the horse, it was like seeing the character in the book come to life…even before one line is spoken!
