Ryan Tedder, I think this song is for you

Remember that bit of controversy last Summer when Kelly Clarkson got pissed that her song Already Gone, written by One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder, sounded an awful lot like Beyoncé‘s hit single Halo which was, coincidentally, also written by Ryan Tedder? As you may recall, Kelly was very vocal about how she believed that Tedder intentionally gave her essentially the same song that he had already given to Beyoncé … but with new lyrics. Well, it would seem that Kelly is still pissed off because a diss track titled Wash, Rinse, Repeat as leaked its way to the Internets and it seems to address the Tedder controversy in the lyrics:

Despite the fact that she has sounded off her outrage following the leak of her songs earlier last month, another never-before-heard material from Kelly Clarkson hits the web again. Titled “Wash, Rinse, Repeat”, the track reportedly carries lyrics which lash out at Ryan Tedder and her record label. The winner of “American Idol” season 1 is rumored to slam the frontman of OneRepublic for writing her a song called “Already Gone” which coincidentally sounds similar to another Ryan-penned track, Beyonce Knowles’ “Halo”. She sings, “Music from the past, from the present, well just last week / We will change a note and get away with it (wait and see) / Just when you think we’ve changed like an addict we sweep back in with a dose of reality.” In other lines, Kelly reportedly takes aim at her label’s bosses who at that time released the single without her consent. “I’ll be playin’ God and you can be my bitch / The only compromise is you get to pick which of these formula’s is your perfect fit .. Wash, rinse, repeat, why are you fighting it? / No, no no, don’t get crazy keep between those lines / Here’s what we have in mind, we’ve worked with everyone trust us and see / Wash, rinse and repeat,” so the lyrics read. Back in July 2009, Kelly Clarkson revealed her frustration after learning that her “Already Gone” has “similar elements” that Ryan Tedder used in Beyonce Knowles’ single. “No-one’s gonna be sittin’ at home, thinking ‘Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to.’ No, they’re just gonna be saying I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said, ‘I don’t understand. Why would you do that?’,” she said back then. “In the end, they’re releasing it without my consent. It sucks, but it’s one of those things I have no control over.”

As I said last July when I blogged about this controversy when it happened, I totally hear the similarity between the two songs and I am totally on Team Kelly. I LOVE that she took her frustration out in song … it’s just a shame that this diss track won’t get the attention it truly deserves. Kelly is amazing. She is so crazy talented, I just love her. This song rules … I love it entirely. I don’t think it’s going to win her favor from her record company bosses (and I imagine Ryan Tedder ain’t gonna be a fan of this track) but KC is sticking to her guns and I can’t help but respect her for it. You go, Kelly!!

Kelly really needs to let this go. Yes the two songs were similar…because they were by the same producer! Just like all Darkchild or So-So Def songs sound similar! Producers have signature sounds….a challenge to anyone who says they’re the same tho: make a mix of the two songs…the reason all said mixes suck on youtube is the songs ultimately are completely musically different. Different beat patterns, speeds, keys, and different instruments all together! Just because they use the same drum doesn’t make them the same song! Saying the two songs are the same is really just ignorant.
And coming from a big Kelly fan who voted for her on idol and supported her ever since this move is just screaming pettiness…I don’t know if it was written for her and recorded as a demo because her people convinced her to do so or what but it’s really struck me the wrong way and makes her seem ungrateful and childish about the whole situation! Ryan was responsible for most of her last album…..just a bad move…..terrible song! I’m disappointed in you Kelly!

Kelly is so lucky to be making tons of money doing something she loves. She seems kind of ungrateful to me. I like her music a lot but it seems like she is always picking fights–from Clive Davis to Taylor Swift’s record company, and now this. Her record company is responsible for much of her success.

I have to say that I am a pretty big fan of Kelly Clarkson, so much that I saw that she was going to be a judge for this competition called the International Songwriting Competition (www.songwritingcompetition.com) that I entered it and I am not even a musician. They have a lyrics only page and I just made some words up and sent them in hoping that Kelly will get to read them. Also, they said there is a $150,000 in prizes so that would be nice to win to. Can’t wait to watch Kelly on Unplugged coming up in November.
