Lindsay & Dina Lohan Go On A Wiener Date

Lindsay Lohan, who we learned last week is facing the threat of jail-time at an upcoming court hearing here in SoCal at the end of this month, made her way to NYC so that she could spend some time with her beloved mother Dina. And what, pray tell, did the ladies get up to as they hung out together in the city? Well, they made a beeline to the closest hot dog vendor so that they could sup on a couple of wieners:

Now that’s mother/daughter bonding, y’all. It should also be mentioned that Lindsay reportedly agreed to be filmed with her mother for a Mother’s Day special for E!. But, while happy days seem to be here again for L. Lo and Dina, all is truly not well on the family front. Daddy Michael Lohan is planning a new attempt to get his daughter under court-ordered conservatorship … and his hope is to strike in the next few weeks. Want to know what plans he’s got up his sleeve? Read on after hte jump …

A Night-Meh On ‘Elm Street’

David and I met up for brunch with our dear friend Gillian at Mauro’s Cafe at Fred Segal in West Hollywood, CA yesterday and ran into a few very cool celebs in the process. Mary Lynn Rajskub, star of 24 who we know was lookin’ ravishing at the show’s wrap party on Friday night, was at Fred Segal as was Madonna‘s manager Guy Oseary (with new baby in tow). We also saw the girl from those 1-800-DENTIST commercials so, all in all, it was a great brunch. Unfortch, the rules of brunch are sacred so I didn’t feel comfortable snapping pics or approaching any of these celebs … needless to say, they all looked fab :)

We spent the rest of the day putzing around but went out to see A Nightmare on Elm Street last night. Because I am a huge fan of the original, I had high hopes for this remake. In the end, I didn’t love the film … but I didn’t really hate it either. It was just meh, I guess:

This film is a deffo retelling of the original Nightmare with a few scenes that pay homage to the original film. I have to say, I did love all the little nods to the original film but, unfortch, the new material wasn’t all that good at all. The one thing that I think hurts this film the most is the poor acting on the part of, well, everyone. A successful horror film works when the actors make you believe they are in fear for their lives … I never really bought from anyone that they were seriously terrorized. Jackie Earle Haley does his very best as the new Freddy Krueger but, alas, his is a pale imitation of Robert Englund‘s masterful original version. There is nothing fresh or new in this remake, nothing that makes it stand out. I can’t even say the special effects were an upgrade because I contend there were more believably scary scenes in the original film (with early 80′s techonology) than there were in this new film. Is it worth seeing if you’re in the mood for a fun, popcorn movie night out? Yes. Is it a must see, not at all. I’m glad I went but I really don’t need to ever see it again.

This morning, I participated in the New York Times A Moment in Time project where they asked folks all around the world to snap a photo at precisely 8AM PT (11AM ET) and submit it to the newspaper so that a composite mosaic could be put together of this one “moment in time”. Here is the photo I snapped and submitted:

I’m really curious to see what other photos were snapped and shared. I’ll do my best to pass along info from the Times when they start sharing the photos that were taken today.

Ahhh … it’s a lazy Sunday, y’all. I’m planning on doing nothing at all. I hope your day is a great one!

Hot Dude Of The Week: Joshua Delos

At long last, it is time once again to pause and reflect on the Hot Dude of the Week. This week’s photo, snapped by photographer John Michael Schlotter, is a very simple one of a beefy and hot dude named Joshua Delos:

Sometimes it’s the plain, simple photos that make the most impact. Amazing eyes, strong jaw, lips like sugar and muscles upon muscles … Joshua here has got it all. I surely hope that YOU will enjoy the sights today as much as I do :) Woot!

Betty White Attends The Annual White House Correspondents Dinner

Here are a couple of fab photos of our dear Golden Girl Betty White as she made her way into the White House yesterday evening to attend the annual White House Correspondents Dinner with other (random) celebs, journalists, politicos, etc. To be honest, I was not at all impressed with any of the other folks who were in attendance at this event last night and wasn’t even going to mention it … until I came upon these lovely photos of Betty making her grand entrance. Her attendance alone made the whole event seem worth mentioning:

As you may be aware, Betty will be in NYC all next week to prep for her hosting duties on Saturday Night Live next weekend. I am so excited to see her on SNL, I can’t even stand it :) She’s lookin’ outstanding … next week cannot get here soon enough for me :)

Halle Berry Hooks Up With A New Man Already?

On Friday we learned the sad news that Hollywood couple Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry had broken up after 2 years and 1 baby together. Today we learn that Halle has already seemed to move on to the company of a mysterious new man, who she was seen hand-in-hand with on Friday night … the same day news of her split with Aubry broke!

The couple were spotted together as they made their way out of the Cort Theater where they saw the Broadway play Fences (which stars Denzel Washington). No word on who this guy is but it’s clear that Halle wanted to send a message that despite her break-up with Gabriel, she will not be alone if she doesn’t want to be. I suppose a hearty You go, girl is in order but … damn, take a breath, OK Halle?

Celebs Come Out For The 136th Kentucky Derby

Various celebs of size and stature made their way to the Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY yesterday to attend the 136th Kentucky Derby. In all honesty, I’m guessing that most of these celebs were only interested in showing off their fancy outfits on the red carpet at the Derby yesterday (Johnny Weir and your fabulous hat, I’m talking to you!) but it sounds like a great day was had by all. Here are a few photos of some of the celebs who attended the race this year and a run-down of this year’s Derby:

The starting gate sprung open in the Kentucky Derby, with 19 horses scrambling for position. One jockey knew exactly where he was headed. Calvin Borel deftly tucked Super Saver along the rail Saturday on a track turned into creamy peanut butter by heavy rain. Once again, he was in his favorite spot, getting a clear path all the way through the goo. That’s why they call him “Bo-rail” and, for the third time in four years, he took the shortest path to the winner’s circle. Borel found only one horse in his way, and once he steered Super Saver around front-running Conveyance, another Run for the Roses was his. The most wide-open Derby in years ended with a sure thing — Borel crossing the finish line and punching the air with this right fist, this time raising it toward a leaden sky. “I knew nothing was going to run him down,” he said, referring to his bay colt. The jockey’s magic touch on his home track gave trainer Todd Pletcher his first Derby victory after 24 failures with a 2 1/2-length victory over Ice Box. “Calvin Borel is a great rider anywhere he goes, but at Churchill Downs he’s even five lengths better,” Pletcher said. “He knows how to ride this track and gets along with his colt beautifully.” Borel’s ride at his home track nearly duplicated the one he turned in last year aboard 50-1 shot Mine That Bird, except he and Super Saver went off at lower odds and were never in last place. Now the trio heads to Baltimore for the Preakness on May 15. “Calvin already said he’s going to win the Triple Crown,” Pletcher said, “so I guess we’d better go there.” The Triple Crown was last won 32 years ago by Affirmed. The last Derby winner to break from Super Saver’s No. 4 post was 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew. Borel almost pulled off his own personal triple last year. Mine That Bird won the Derby, then Borel switched to filly Rachel Alexandra to win the Preakness before going back to Mine That Bird in the Belmont Stakes. They finished third as the 6-5 favorite. On Saturday, he was confident enough in his colt and his knowledge of the track to take him off the lead in the early going of the 1 1/4-mile race. In all but one of his six previous races, Super Saver had never been farther back than second in the early stages. Borel knew that strategy wouldn’t work in a 20-horse Derby field on a tiring, sloppy track that had been pelted by heavy rain early in the day. So they hugged the rail in sixth place, while many of his rivals were well off the fence in the muck. “We all know what he’s going to do,” said Robby Albarado, who finished 14th aboard Dean’s Kitten. “He just does it anyway.” Said Borel: “I was just taught it’s the shortest way around.” Super Saver was timed in 2:04.45 as the 8-1 second-choice behind favorite Lookin At Lucky, whose 6-1 odds tied Harlan’s Holiday in 2002 for the longest priced favorite in 136 runnings. He paid $18, $8.80 and $6.

… Um … I honestly have no idea what any of this means … at all. I know a horse named Super Saver won the race and that horse was ridden by a jockey named Calvin Borel who won his 3rd Kentucky Derby in 4 years (a feat that has never been done before) and his second Derby in a row. Other than that … no idea. I’m just here for the hats … which, I gotta say, were a bit of a let-down. Save for Johnny Weir, most of the hats donned by the celebs this year were pretty lackluster. I gotta give props to Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz for bringin’ the old skool favor to the red carpet. Ashlee looked like she came straight from the 1920s and Pete looked like an extra from Newsies. Well done. I suppose congrats are in order for Super Saver and his jockey Clavin Borel but, yeah, I really don’t get any of this at all. Do you?

Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon Got Hitched . . . Again!

Just a few days ago we learned that happily marrieds Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were planning to celebrate their second wedding anniversary by renewing their wedding vows. On Friday night — April 30 — the couple did just that and celebrated their anniversary with another wedding ceremony (white dress, veil, the whole bit) attended by close family and friends … behold:

Pop star Mariah Carey has famously pledged to renew her wedding vows to husband Nick Cannon every year – but next time she may want to consider wearing a slightly larger dress. The singer appeared in danger of falling out of her skin-tight gown at the ceremony, held at the couple’s Beverly Hills mansion on Friday. The celebration took place exactly two years after their wedding on Ms Carey’s estate in the Bahamas. The couple first met on the Caribbean island of Antigua when Mr Cannon took part in the filming of the music video for her song Bye Bye. The couple listened to traditional wedding music, exchanged rings and kissed before Mr Cannon, an actor and radio show host, presented his wife with an engraved bracelet. Speaking of the couple’s plans to renew their vows every year, Mr Cannon, who at 29 is 12 years younger than his superstar wife, said: ‘I encourage everybody to do it. If you are happy and in love, celebrate it. ‘Doesn’t everybody do that? Don’t Heidi Klum and Seal do the same thing every year? ‘It’s just something fun to celebrate. We renew our vows and exchange gifts.’

Aww … this is cute. I think it’s really cool that Mimi and Nick want to renew their vows every year, it truly shows how committed they are to one another. I don’t know that Mariah Carey really needs a new wedding dress every year but, you know what, she is Mariah Carey and she could wear a new wedding dress every day if she wanted. As much as I love Mr. & Mrs. Cannon‘s yearly commitment to renewing their wedding vows, I kinda gotta call them out on the wee bit of tackiness that ensued on Friday night. You’re never gonna guess what kind of garish gift Nick got for Mariah as a second anniversary gift. After the jump, see what he had specially (and tackily) made for her …

“We are very lucky.” -- NYC Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg
Times Square Evacuated After The Discovery Of A Car Bomb

I *really* hate doing posts like this but because of the seriousness of what could’ve happened and the fact that I was haunted all night long by what happened, I feel like I have to just get it out of my system. As you may have heard by now, Times Square in NYC, NY was evacuated last night after a smoking car parked right in the heart of Times Square was determined to have been a crude car bomb. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the parked Nissan Pathfinder was full of propane tanks, gasoline containers, other flammable material and a timing device. Had the car bomb exploded as planned, there could’ve been untold devastation and death right in the heart of New York City. Believe me, I know disturbing news of this sort is not really the usual fare that I share on my blog but, again, because of what could’ve been, I think it’s very important that we pay attention, take notice and acknowledge that we are still under real threat of attack. Here are some photos from Times Square last night and some deets from the New York Times about what went down:

A crude car bomb of propane, gasoline and fireworks was discovered in a smoking Nissan Pathfinder in the heart of Times Square on Saturday evening, prompting the evacuation of thousands of tourists and theatergoers on a warm and busy night. Although the device had apparently started to detonate, there was no explosion, and early on Sunday the authorities were still seeking a suspect and motive. “We are very lucky,” Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said at a 2:15 a.m. press conference. “We avoided what could have been a very deadly event.” A large swath of Midtown — from 43rd Street to 48th Street, and from Sixth to Eighth Avenues — was closed for much of the evening after the Pathfinder was discovered just off Broadway on 45th Street. Several theaters and stores, as well as the South Tower of the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel, were evacuated. Mr. Bloomberg was joined by Gov. David A. Paterson, Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly and other officials at the early morning press conference to give a chronology of the vehicle’s discovery, its disarming, and the investigation that has been launched. The mayor and police commissioner had returned early from the annual White House correspondents’ dinner in Washington. At 6:28 p.m., Mr. Kelly said, a video surveillance camera recorded what was believed to be the dark green Nissan S.U.V. driving west on 45th Street. Moments later, a T-shirt vendor on the sidewalk saw smoke coming out of vents near the back seat of the S.U.V., which was now parked awkwardly at the curb with its engine running and its hazard lights on. The vendor called to a mounted police officer, the mayor said, who smelled gunpowder when he approached the S.U.V. and called for assistance. The police began evacuating Times Square, starting with businesses along Seventh Avenue, including a Foot Locker store and a McDonald’s. Police officers from the emergency service unit and firefighters flooded the area and were troubled by the hazard lights and running engine, and by the fact that the S.U.V. was oddly angled in the street. At this point, a firefighter from Ladder 4 reported hearing several “pops” from within the vehicle. The police also learned that the Pathfinder had the wrong license plates on it. Members of the Police Department’s bomb squad donned protective gear, broke the Pathfinder’s back windows and sent in a “robotic device” to “observe” it, said Deputy Commissioner Paul J. Browne, the police department’s chief spokesman. Inside, they discovered three canisters of propane like those used for barbecue grills, two five-gallon cans of gasoline, consumer-grade fireworks — the apparent source of the “pops” — and two clocks with batteries, the mayor said. He said the device “looked amateurish.” Mr. Browne said: “It appeared it was in the process of detonating, but it malfunctioned.” Bomb squad officers also discovered a two-by-two-by-four-foot metal box — described as a “gun locker” — in the S.U.V. that was taken to the Police Department’s firing range at Rodman’s Neck in the Bronx to be destroyed, Mr. Kelly said. It was not immediately known what, if anything, was inside it. Officials said they had no reports of anyone seen running from the vehicle. Mr. Kelly said police were scouring the area for any additional videotapes but noted that the S.U.V.’s windows were tinted, which could further hamper any efforts to identify those inside. Some of the surveillance cameras nearby were located in closed businesses, and the mayor made clear it would take time to review all available tapes. “We have no idea who did this or why,” Mr. Bloomberg said. Kevin B. Barry, a former supervisor in the New York Police Department bomb squad, said that if the device had functioned, “it would be more of an incendiary event” than an explosion … Around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, the T-shirt vendor who first alerted the police returned to the scene, along with several other vendors whom he worked with … The vendor, who wore a white fedora, had a limp and walked with a cane, was swarmed by television cameras as he tried to make his way to a taxicab on 44th Street. As he got into the taxi, he was asked by a reporter what he had to say to New Yorkers. “See something, say something,” he said. Times Square on a Saturday night is one of the busiest and most populated locations in the city, and has long been seen as a likely target for some kind of attack.

I deffo try to keep things lighthearted and fun around here but news like this really needs to be disseminated as far and as wide as possible. I just cannot imagine what could’ve happened had this car bomb successfully detonated. A bomb explosion in Times Square would’ve been truly devastating … in more ways than one. This is the second time we’ve gotten lucky in the wake of a planned terror attack. Just last Xmas, a man almost detonated a bomb on an airplane that was coming in for a landing at Detroit Metropolitan Airport … mere miles from where my parents live! It’s really very scary to think that we’ve now avoided 2 potentially deadly events … and the threat of another terror attack still looms. People if you do see something, say something! It is far better to be overly cautious and wrong rather than to ignore your suspicions and stay mum. Thank the gods that this event turned out to be completely harmless … unfortch, it really could’ve been a horrible and deadly success — we have to keep that in mind.
