Jake Gyllenhaal Does ‘GQ’ Magazine
"I think I’m realizing my strengths and my faults."

Our dear Jake Gyllenhaal is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of GQ magazine. As y’all should know by now, Jakey poo will be starring in his first big budget action film this Summer, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time … In support of that upcoming film, Jake talks to GQ magazine as well as poses for a few photos … with some of his adoring fans. Here is our first look at Jake on the cover GQ magazine and some excerpts from his coverstory interview where he talks a bit about his late friend and co-star Heath Ledger:

Jake Gyllenhaal has already proven his versatility by starring in films such as Brokeback Mountain and Jarhead. Now he stars in the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, taking on his first action role and solidifying his status as a superstar. In an interview with GQ correspondent Chris Heath, Gyllenhaal opens up about his relationship with Heath Ledger, his parents’ recent divorce (“I think it takes a lot of courage for my parents to make the decision that they made”), and his love for his family. As for his own life, Gyllenhaal explains, “I’m trying not to keep things so neat. I think I’m realizing my strengths and my faults. I think I’m trying to see what is me…and what is not me.”

On working with Heath Ledger: “He was very sensitive. He didn’t always have a sense of performance in his everyday life. He knew who he was. I think actors very often, they know how to present something, and that’s part of their job. I think he was just really sensitive. We often used to do a lot of things together, because people were very interested in him and I think we felt safe together.”

On how Ledger’s death affected him: “Even when we did Brokeback and stuff, it was like my work was the only thing that mattered to me. It was like I could only understand or define myself through doing that. Life, I didn’t totally understand. And I think I was afraid of life. And I had success in my work, enough success that you could keep going back there. But after that happened … I think I recognized that it was work. And I recognized that this is for real.”

While I still have my doubts that Prince of Persia will be able to wow audiences, I am really rooting for Jake to succeed with his new film. If he does well, he’s sure to get more action film leads … and action film leads usually have to get all sweaty and half-nekkid on the big screen … which would be a win-win situation for ALL involved. In any event, I’m still very much looking forward to seeing him in Persia — and I’m also looking forward to seeing a few photos from his GQ photospread. Check ‘em out, after the jump …

Now this is a great photospread … it looks like they just dumped Jake in the middle of a horde of fans in NYC and just shot whatever happened … ahhh, to be in that mix. These photos are great, like all photos of Jakey poo are great. This is a must own issue of GQ for me. I understand the mag hits newsstands on April 20.

  4. Melissa says:

Ummmm, wow – what an awful interview. I do like his acting and yes, he is deffo easy on the eyes – but those were some of the worst answers I have ever heard. They were not even coherent…sigh. Even given the promise of shirtlessness, I am not really intersted in this movie at all – tis sad.

  5. He is so good looking. Loved Broke Back Mountain. Wait isnt he ‘Toothy Tile’?

  6. Adri says:

He is good looking! However he has a case of creepy eyes sometimes.

  8. Katherine says:

IMHO he looks kindof dorky on the cover photo. Just not his usual smokin’ hot self. The rest of the photos are really cute though.

  9. Shelly says:

@Melissa, Jake tends to be very wordy in interviews and goes off on tangents. I’ll forget his ramblings for the fun pictures. :)

  10. Melissa says:

@Shelly I agree with you – the crowd pics were cute, and he looks like he would be fun to hang out with…and really – sometimes that is enough. lol
