‘Glee’ Plans Another Madonna Episode For Next Season
If at first you DO succeed ...

So … how awesome was last night’s Madonna ep of Glee? Amazing, right? Well … good news, based on the huge success that last night’s episode The Power of Madonna has garnered for the show, producers have announced that they are working on producing another Madonna ep to air early next season. Things are still in the planning stages but Madge is reportedly on board for the sequel ep … might she be willing to make a cameo on the show next time around?

Glee is heading back into the groove with Madonna. The afterglow from last night’s smashing (and highly rated) Madge-themed episode has barely dimmed and already series creator Ryan Murphy is talking to the Material Girl about a sequel! Murphy confirms that he’s in discussions with M’s camp and that “Madonna and her people are into it and want it to happen.” The follow-up would air early next season and feature six more songs from the pop icon’s immense catalog of hits. (There’s talk that fans might be able to vote on which tracks should be used via a poll on Fox.com.) The Glee-Madonna marriage has already reaped huge dividends for both the show and the star. Tuesday’s episode attracted a potent 13.5 million viewers, down just 5 percent from last week’s record-setting spring premiere. Additionally, the soundtrack from the ep is currently No. 1 on iTunes, and two of the singles are in the top 20.

None of this is surprising at all … TV networks really like to take a good idea and beat it into the ground, hoping that they will strike gold every time. I do think, tho, that Madonna is the kind of musician that has more than enough songs to feature in more than just the one ep. If they can get Maddy herself to appear in the episode then I am ALL for another Glee/Madonna episode. I really love the Glee versions of the Madonna songs that were featured last night … and I’m sure I’ll love the new songs that will eventually get produced, recorded and released next season. In case you missed it or just want to watch last night’s ep of Glee, you can do so after the jump …

Unfortunately, due to restrictions, the above embed will only work for viewers in the US. Even if you did watch last night, the ep is so good it’s deffo worth another watch today. Overall, I am very excited that Glee is planning another Madonna episode … I just hope they don’t let things get out of hand and end up ruining a good idea by beating it to death with repetition. How about an episode (or two) devoted to Britney Spears‘s amazing catalog of hits? I’d be so down for that. What do y’all think?

OH and btw, Fox is reairing The Power of Madonna this Friday night at 9PM ET/PT … so you’ll have another chance to watch the ep in full on TV :)

  2. Dana says:

Sooo am I the only one is who in love with Brittany?? She is just coming out with the best one liners. She, Kurt and Sue have to be my favourite characters by far!!

    Last nights episode was great

Madonna’s catalog has more than enough material for them to do another episode…but I think it is a TERRIBLE idea to get Madonna actually on the show. Madonna is best viewed in a nostalgic way, focusing on her old music and performances. Modern day Madonna is a grizzled, air-brushed creation that usually falls flat on TV.

I heard the songs a week before the episode aired and was unimpressed with the bad karaoke that usually happens on this show. When I saw the episode, I was at least partially entertained by some of them. The guys singing “What It Feels Like For A Girl,” while on story, was completely horrible and pointless and did nothing. Sue’s Vogue video was fine as an homage but had nothing to do with the episode. I wish they had Glee’d it up a bit and showed the makeover.

“Like A Virgin” was much better visually than vocally. It was a small hint of what the show could be doing to be a great show. But then they busted out “Like A Prayer” which was a forced rushed ending that made no sense. One of the most powerful songs ever and they made it more bland than a John Mayer picture.

Though I have to say while watching the show,my friend and I think a Mamma Mia type Madonna show should be planned cuz it would be amazing – certainly more amazing than the snore fest of Mamma Mia. I never thought Abba could be boring… apparently, I was wrong.

As a HUGE Madonna fan, I totally connected with Sue’s placing of her on the huge pedastal that she deserves. And the first 40 minutes or so of the show was fantastic and brilliantly written – which is not usual for Glee. Unfortunately, they tried to cram too much in there and the ending fizzed out and meant nothing.

I watched all of the first half of the first season and these last two episodes, but after last night, I’m pretty much done with Glee. It’s not worth my time… at least not til they do the Madonna episode again next season.

Sidenote… as someone who works in TV production, the fact that they said Madonna is Public Domain made me laugh more than anything. Believe me, she ain’t! I can’t imagine how much they paid for last night’s episode. Aside from the 7 songs they recorded and peformed (8 if you include the unused “Burning Up” featured as a bonus tracks on iTunes), there were at least 4 others of Madonna’s actual recordings within the show. That could not have been cheap.

Overall, I give the episode a B-, but the series is totally overrated and repetitive. But if you enjoy it and it makes you happy, rock on, y’all! Peace out!

@Paul – Seriously..Her and Sue’s little comments have been killing me!

I liked the episode..I didn’t LOVE it..I felt like some of the songs were thrown in to fill a quota or something..Having said that, Like A Prayer, Like A Virgin, and the Borderline/Open Your Heart mash-up, were my favorites of the night..

  8. michele says:

I would die if they did a Prince episode.

  9. Paul From Toronto says:

@Kendra – its so true eh? I think they need to give Brittany more screen time.. cause I just love her! ha ha ha

  10. CHASE says:

They need Britney Spears!!! Britney Spears = Ratings which equal money! They need the NEW Queen of Pop and Britney has a lot of iconic songs for someone only being around for over a little bit of 10 years! They’re going to do GaGa next. Puh-leez!

  11. Kitti says:

Last night’s ep was amazing! now they need to do a BRITNEY episode! She has so many songs that goes with a show like this. It would be epic!!

  12. Chivonne says:

@ DJ- if I could post a picture of me sticking my tongue out I so would. you’re a grumpasaurus and ugh ):

  13. Jess says:

GASP! I have to admit..I didn’t like the Madonna episode!
I guess my expectations were too high, but I thought they struggled too much to get the dialog and script to work accordingly to Madonna’s songs that it just seemed choppy and a big mess. The “Like a Virgin” part was pretty good, but overall, I think the episode was scattered.
I also believe that bringing Madonna onto screen is a BAD idea. She is better viewed (as Krissy said) in a nostalgic sort of way.
    Just my two cents….

I sure do love the character Brittney…she has the BEST lines!! Glee!!!

  14. Eddy says:

Last night’s episode was great and a part deux would be a lot of fun, especially if they can get Madonna to guest star. Hell, she was a judge on The Marriage Ref! Glee is more in line for her. The best line from last night’s episode was Mercedes’ saying they only use her to wail on the last note, so true and too funny. This may date me but I think they should seriously consider doing a whole episode of GREASE!! It can be next season’s premiere, right after some Summer Loving!!

  15. nicole says:

@Eddy – Grease would be perfect!

  16. Shawn says:

@PAUL FROM TORONTO…you’re not the only one, Brittany is my absolute favorite–She has me rolling every episode—The Like a Virgin sequence was fantastic!

  17. Lana says:

I’m OBSESSED with this episode I have watched it twice already and I plan on watching it as often as I can! LOVED IT <3

  18. Kris says:

I thought it was amazing!!! I loved the Vogue music video and the “Like A Virgin” part was awesome. I’d love to see another Madonna episode. Also, Jonathan Gruff is insanely adorable.

  19. aimie says:

loved the whole thing. like a virgin was my fave and we got to hear emma sing again… and SANTANA…. she was great!!! hubby said they definately invested in finn and his voice this 1/2 of the season he’s leaps and bounds better than the first 13 epis. so so so glad i got on the glee bandwagon. <3

  20. Sarah says:

I didn’t care for this ep. The music was good, but I think the character’s were off a bit.

I don’t imagine Sue as a huge Madonna-fan. It worked for the story, but her character’s been the complete opposite of last night’s episode for me.

Plus, I was a bit annoyed with the “Like a Virgin” sequence. Mainly because it seemed like the obvious route to go. I really don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t watched, but I thought the outcome should have played out differently, like maybe Rachel and Finn switching results or something?

I agreed with Puck throughout. I just don’t see high school students finding Madonna as relevant and powerful, quoting her life story… it was just awkward.
