‘Courtney Love Is Dead’, Says Courtney Love
The new NME interview

The artist formerly known as Courtney Love is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of the British music magazine NME in a coverstory interview where she explains that “Courtney Love” is dead. Courtney, whose real full name is Courtney Michelle Harrison, has decided that we’ve all had enough of “Courtney Love“, so she has decided to kill her … or some such ridiculousness. Here is Courtney Michelle, as she would like to be known from here on out, on the cover of the new issue of NME along with some excerpts from this new interview:

What’s in a name? Courtney Love’s about to find out. Sorry, Courtney Michelle’s about to find out. The ever, um, eccentric Hole frontwoman has announced that she will professionally revert back to her real name—well, real middle name—and henceforth answer only to Courtney Michelle (her birth name is Courtney Michelle Harrison). “Courtney Love is dead,” she told Britain’s NME magazine. “We’ve all decided we don’t like her anymore. We love her when she goes onstage, but I don’t need her in the rest of my life.” And lest you think this new name is little more than a rock star’s passing fancy or attempt to channel her inner Sasha Fierce, think again: “Courtney Love is a way to oppress me,” she explained. Yeah, those surnames can be so domineering! Sadly, her record company didn’t quite get the memo, announcing just last week that Hole, led by Courtney Love, will be going on tour this summer following the release of its new album, Nobody’s Daughter. The veracity of her moniker swap will no doubt be tested next week, when Courtney…Whatever makes the late-night rounds.

For the first time in YEARS, Courtney Love Michelle Whatever finally has a chance to win back some modicum of respect now that she is about to release a new album that has been fairly well received by critics and fans. Doing stupid crap like changing one’s name will only serve to confuse people and may likely discredit her attempt to return to the world of music. Courtney, my dear, the name change didn’t work for Prince — arguably one of THE most talented musicians of all time — what makes you think it’ll work for you? After the jump, check out one more photo featured in this issue of NME magazine …

Since it’s what she wants, I suppose we should all raise our sporks high and give a hearty Peace the Spork Out to “Courtney Love” but I don’t think it’ll do any good. Like it or not, Courtney Love will remain “Courtney Love” for all time. If she is truly serious about making a musical come back, she needs to quit all this nonsense and focus on promoting the new Hole album.

Considering she doesn’t even look like “Courtney Love” anymore, I’d say it’s fitting.

She’s going to be known as Courtney Love until she really does die.

    trent,

not to be an evil grammar-nazi-bitch, but the phrase is “MODICUM of success.” moniker means name, modicum means small measure. i’ve tried to refrain from saying anything when i’ve seen you do this in the past, but i’m only human. still love the site and you!

@Rhonda…not to nitpick, but the name of that song is Celebrity Skin. lol

I think the name change did work for Prince, quite well actually. From what I remember of his situation, he changed his name b/c his record label basically owned his name. So if he changed it and released work under the new name, he wasn’t beholden to them. By changing his name to an unpronounceable symbol, everyone referred to him as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, so it’s obvious we’re still talking about Prince. Once his contract expired, he changed it back. It was kind of brilliant actually.

  9. Z says:

Oh, forgot to mention that Courtney Love is NOT brilliant so I’m sure her name change is not at all similar to Prince’s situation! ;)

    Wait…Prince Changed His Name?!

Hands up if Courtney Love should O.D!
