Madonna Shoots A New Ad Campaign For D&G

Earlier this week it was reported that Madonna was rumored to be teaming up with Dolce & Gabbana again to appear in their next promo ad campaign and today we have the photographic proof that the Material Girl will be returning as D&G‘s celebrity spokesmodel. Madonna was spotted on the streets of Harlem, NY yesterday with a very young male model posing for famed photographer Steven Klein:

IS Madonna set to be Dolce & Gabbana’s campaign girl for a second season? Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce are currently in Manhattan filming their autumn/winter 2010 menswear commercial at Mulberry Street Bar in NoLita, Fashionologie reports, and it seems that the Material Girl has been spotted nearby. Although there is no official word from the design duo regarding the womenswear collection, it’s alleged that Madonna’s favourite photographer Steven Klein will be shooting in the very same neighborhood in the coming week. Madonna has already fronted one lucrative campaign for her longstanding friends Dolce and Gabbana, in addition to designing a range of sunglasses for the Italian designers – the first co-branded venture they have ever undertaken. The world awaits an official announcement from super-tweeter Stefano Gabbana, who excitedly revealed their first collaboration via the social media site back in November, and has already tweeted photos from the NY menswear shoot.

HMMM … Madonna sure can’t get enough of the young boys now, can she? I think it’s safe to say that the cat is already out of the bag after seeing these photos. As you may recall, Madonna played a very domestic role in the last D&G promo ad campaign … this time around, I think she’s playing more of a motherly role. Surely we’re to believe that, in these new photos, she is a mature mother taking her young son out for a walk … cuz I think it’s asking a bit much for us to believe they are playing, ahem, love interests. I suspect we’ll be seeing more photos from Maddy‘s new D&G photoshoot well ahead of the release of the final photos. I wonder what Madonna will be doing with this young child in the rest of the photos.

Prepare to be irritated
‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’ Releases A Motion Poster

The new version of the classic 80′s horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street opens in theaters next Friday April 30 but today we get to check one more very cool (tho EXTREMELY irritating) promo item to get us jazzed for the film’s release. Motion posters are all the rage these days, Terminator: Salvation had one, SAW VI had one and now A Nightmare on Elm Street has one:

As you may know, motion posters can only exist online because they are not static images only. Motion posters employ motion and sound to create a more attention-grabbing promo experience … and they are very effective. The new motion poster for Nightmare is just the kind of freaky, creepy and EXTREMELY irritating experience that will surely heighten your excitement (and anxiety) for the film. After the jump, check out this very cool new motion poster — in order to experience it properly, make sure you have the sound on your computer turned way up before you click thru …

Fox drops the show but it may find new life on a new network
The US Version Of ‘Torchwood’ Has Been Cancelled

Back in January we learned the somewhat disconcerting news that the brilliant UK sci-fi series Torchwood was being adapted for the US audience and earlier this month it was clarified that the US version of Torchwood would be a spin-off rather than a re-cast remake. Today, tho, we learn that Fox has decided to cancel its plans to bring Torchwood to US television … which, to be honest, should have fans of the original series breathing a heavy sigh of relief:

Fox has decided not to pursue a U.S. version of the UK cult hit. The network was developing a stateside version of the “Doctor Who” spinoff, a prospect which divided fans. “BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized ‘Torchwood’ format,” said BBC Worldwide in a statement. “We are currently in discussion with several interested networks.” As to that last part, BBC Worldwide executive vp of programming and production Jane Tranter reiterated that a U.S. version was still making progress. “It’s very much ongoing and very much alive,” Tranter said.

As I mentioned in my last post about plans for a US version of Torchwood, I’m not opposed to the production of a spin-off series … I think it would be very cool to have a Torchwood HQ here in the US (I understand my beloved Detroit, MI is up for contention as the site for the US Torchwood HQ) so I’m not really bothered that BBC Worldwide is still planning to bring Torchwood to the US. I am greatly relieved, tho, that Fox has decided not make the show. They have a HORRIBLE track record of canceling great sci-fi shows because they don’t really know how to promote those kinds of shows properly. It is my hope that the US version of Torchwood will find a home on a channel like SyFy so that it will have a real chance at survival. All in all, I think this latest development is good news all around.

Happy 40th Birthday, Earth Day
Earth Day 2010

Do you love your Mother? Well, if so, you should know that today is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day … a special day created back on April 22, 1970 to “inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment”. As the world’s population gets larger and the need to manufacture things from the Earth’s resources increases, it becomes even more important to be Earth-aware so that we — as a species — work together to do our very best to care for our planet so that we nurture and sustain her as she nurtures and sustains us. Earth Day is meant to inspire and remind us all that we have a precious charge in our care … saving her means saving us:

From grassroots beginnings in 1970, Earth Day—which celebrates its 40th anniversary today—has blossomed into a global tradition. Organizers expect more than a billion to honor Earth Day in 2010—but many will do so with Facebook rather than megaphones. As part of the Billion Acts of Green, an initiative organized by the Washington, D.C.-based Earth Day Network’s Green Generation campaign, more than 30 million people will use social media to encourage green activities. One commenter on the Earth Day Network Web site named “Elroy,” for example, plans to “shower with a friend”—presumably to conserve water and electricity. Kathleen Rogers, president of the Earth Day Network, said that everyone is part of what she calls the green generation, which marks the transition from the industrial revolution to the green revolution. The campaign aims to make Earth Day’s 40th anniversary the moment when the green generation comes together to address pressing environmental concerns, such as the global freshwater crisis and global warming. “The idea that we can all belong to something is what’s exciting people and what’s making them want to join,” Rogers said … Hundreds of events are held each year across the world on and around April 22 to mark Earth Day, Rogers said. (Related: “First Green Supersonic Jet Launches on Earth Day.”) Among the highlights for the 40th anniversary include the first community garbage cleanup in Kolkata (Calcutta), India, which does not have garbage-collection service. Rogers said that event is a stepping-stone in the establishment of an environmental movement in India. “I think people would be extremely disappointed if it went back to the way it was,” she said. The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, will formally announce a National Charter for Environmental and Sustainable Development on Earth Day 2010. The novel idea was inspired by the Earth Day movement in the U.S., Rogers noted. “He’s a king that wants to represent the fabulous side of environmental protection,” she said. “It’s very forward thinking.” Earth Day Network’s marquee event in the U.S. is an April 25 star-studded rally in Washington, D.C., calling on the nation’s political leaders to combat global warming. Big-name speakers at the rally include the Reverend Jesse Jackson; film director James Cameron; and a roster of musical guests including Sting, Bob Weir, and Tao Rodríguez-Seeger, grandson of folk singer Pete Seeger, who performed at the first Earth Day teach-in in Washington, D.C.

Earth Day is a rare opportunity for the inhabitants of the planet to work together toward a common cause. In order to really make a difference, all you need to do is to be more Earth-conscious and change your habits in very small but significant ways. David and I have been working on cutting down our use of plastic. We purchased a bunch of recyclable canvas bags for shopping and now refuse any plastic bags that are offered to us … it’s not much but it’s something. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has a list of 5 Things you can commit to in order help make a difference in helping the environment. I say, doing just one of those things will make a difference. I think Earth Day is a great way to remind us that we are all connected by the common bond of the world we live in and on … if we all work together to share the responsibility of taking care of our home, we all get to reap the benefits of a happy and healthy Earth :)
