Whitney Houston Talks Up Her ‘Nothing But Love’ World Tour
The Diva speaks

A new 10-minute long interview video with Whitney Houston has made its way to the Internets and in this sit down, she talks at length about her Nothing But Love World Tour (which recently WOWed fans in Australia) and other various topics. Among the other topics she discusses, Whitney chimes in on the state of pop music these days where young artists feel they have to resort to wearing “Hallowe’en costumes” to get a little attention … a practice, she feels is totally unnecessary:

In an interview talking about her “Nothing But Love” tour, Whitney Houston opted to share her insight about today’s pop stars. And, she made it clear that she is not a fan of artists who put on “Halloween costumes” on their shows. “There are some extremely gifted and talented young women and young men out there who don’t have to really put on Halloween costumes, just be themselves,” she gushed. “A little extravagance, a little flair, a little sexiness or a sultriness is cool, but some of them are very dark. … To me, it’s not becoming.” Whitney Houston will resume the tour in support of her comeback album “I Look to You” on April 8 at MEN Arena in Manchester. The last stop, meanwhile, will take place on May 29 at SAP Arena in Mannheim.

You go girl! I’m so with you on this point, Whit. I’m so not impressed with “artists” who feel that style (and I use the term very loosely) should surpass substance. Wearing all kinds of gaudy crap just to look “different” is neither intriguing nor interesting to me. Clearly, my dear Whitney — DIVA SUPREME — agrees. After the jump, check out this new Whitney Houston interview in full …

That’s my girl, y’all. She looks and sounds fantastic. I am DYING for her to start playing shows here in the US. She’ll be heading to Europe very soon … then, hopefully, she’ll be here in the US this Summer. Bring it on, Whitney … I’ve got nothing but love for YOU!

Whitney is the real deal and for her being in the industry for 30yrs she knows what she is talking about. Love her and yes she looks great.

She’s so humble and calm, I want to just give her a big old hug!!

  2. Fiona says:

Great interview, Whitney looks and sounds fantastic and I can’t wait to see her in the UK

  3. CB says:

I can only assume she’s talking about Rhianna and GaGa…

  4. Tashaun says:

AMEN, Whit! Love momma Whit. Always keep it real.

  5. Ace Dawg says:

    I just LOVE whitney!!

  6. Ruben says:

This has GaGa written all over it! Hahaha! I was beginning to wonder why Trent never posts anything GaGa related. Now I understand. The costumes are flashy, but it’s all part of the act. It’s just for fun and not to be taken with such seriousness. Some of the outfits are great! And when there is actual substance in the music, I don’t mind the flashiness.

  7. E.Lee says:

Agreed, Ruben! I truly believe that Gaga isn’t “trying to be different.” I think she really identifies with glam culture, just like Gwen Stefani identifies with pop-punk culture, and alot of rappers identify with a “thug life” sort of culture. Why is that such a sin, Trent? You have something against Glam culture? Or have you and Perez just divyed up the celebs and you got stuck with Beyonce and Brit Brit?

  8. Ruben says:

@E.Lee – DO NOT drag Britney into this! LOL

  9. Paul From Toronto says:

I love Whitney, I really do but i find it wrong for her to diss other artists. IF this is about Gaga, then that’s not a fair statement bc this girl comes on stage, gives a show and sings pretty good live. She actually has singing talent. I honestly get tired when i hear other artists bashing other artists for what they do. They wouldnt be there if there was not even a bit of talent. Good example of this would be when Sting insulted American Idol contestants. Lets see him do that when he was young and have to get on a stage and sing for millions of people and make sure he is spot on with his voice/image/song choice. I dont think it would have happened. but that my opinion i suppose.

  10. Anthony says:

YES YES YES!!! I agree with everything she said!! True talent always wins out in the end. Whitney you betta tell these new artists! Ah, I loved when she said “and I think I’m right…” then throws her head back hahaa too much!

  11. Manda says:

I do agree that an artists talent or voice should be what is showcased first and foremost. However, I don’t mind “the show” that the Janet Jackson’s or Gaga’s do either.

  12. thatbaddest b says:

Guys, whitney didn’t call out a name and went out of her way to say that she is not talking about anyone in particular.

I think it’s funny that people recognize their favs in her statement. I guess she was speaking the truth but i really think that she is talking in general about the industry now being gimicky and talent being obscurred by the show.

My favorite part was her thanking her fans and this line,

‘.i didn’t just wake up one morning and decided i wanted to sing, I was born into showbusiness…’

lmao, divah O the day! U better recognize!

    Love this woman

  13. Claire says:

See now I put Britney Spears in that category. I’m not very familiar with Rhianna (sp?) or Lady Gaga. For me, I just like a person (or people) with microphones and instruments. No flashy outfits, costume changes, scenery…none of that. That’s why I lump Ms. Spears in with the others. I do hear that Lady Gaga actually sings (what a novel concept!) so in my opinion if I had to pick one I’d pick her. Singing is kind of important if you put out albums.

  14. wellllll..... says:

Where do I begin? To her benefit, she sounds far more articulate here than I’ve heard her in over a decade, including the Oprah interview. Okay: I think she might have to take 10 or so years off her career, unless she’s including her “crack is wack” & “BOB-BY!” stint. Or maybe that was “show biz” (she even says “i decided to do this again”; so she was apparently doing something else besides what she was “born into”). I love her: “they want to raise their daughters with an integrity & dignity”; she clearly WAS NOT present the past decade or she would have remembered the debacle that little Bobbi Kristina endured (remember Bobbi’s suicide attempt anyone?). She’s so arrogant “as I started singing in church years ago & many of my friends who sing the good news of gospel”; unlike the rest of y’all heathens, I guess, who started who knows where…. Her lack of humilty is astounding. “music doesn’t change, people change their music”; what the fuck does that mean? Music changes, people change, life IS change. Talking about “dark” performers/performances; her entire marriage to Bobby was one dark descent into drug addiction that was played out for the world on national television (& she picked up a paycheck for that too, thank you!) She talks about “love” over & over, but all she’s talking is judgement of others: why aren’t they like her? Love? Keep your love to yourself, Nippy, & don’t forget your meds.

  15. Kaitlyn says:

Welllll I’m seein’ gaga at the ACC and if she stands on the centre of the stage and sings for a couple hours in some nice little dress I’ll be SEVERELY disappointed.
Damn right I paid for a theatrical crazy-ass performance.

  16. Jociene says:

Well, I’m braziliam woman and I would like to say: I just love Whitney, you so wonderful singer. You’re the best!!!!!!!!!

  17. Halloween Costumes says:

You go girl!! I’m sooo glad she is back! She has one of the best voices! It was so sad so see her go through that! It takes a REALLY strong person to come back from what she did! I applaud her in so many ways! She is so right on with the get ups that some of these people wear! They are just crazy. I can’t wait to see her back in the states!

  18. but wait! there's more! says:
