Watch: Dakota Fanning Featuring Kristen Stewart, ‘Cherry Bomb’
The Real Deal
Last week we got our first listen to the Runaways song Cherry Bomb as performed by Dakota Fanning featuring Kristen Stewart, stars of the upcoming biopic The Runaways. Today we get our first look at the official new Cherry Bomb music video … here are a few screencaps:

At last … in this music video we get to see the other young actress who play the other members of The Runaways in the film! It’s not a bad video but I like the song so … that’s to be expected. After the jump, check out the video and judge for yourselves …
Not bad, not bad. BUT, for comparison, here is the original 1976 Cherry Bomb video by the real Runaways:
HMMM. Which one do YOU prefer?

I’m still amazed out how much Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning look like the people they are playing. It’s kind of amazing. Also, while the newer version is more polished then the older one, I think I still like the older. It has that ‘raw rock’ sound compared to the newer one. :)
Well it certainly isnt bad but I do so love the original version. Dakota stepped in to Cherie’s shoes nicely and does sound very similar. All and all… I like it.
I really am lovin the new version. Those girls can really sing!
Its interesting to see that the girls did a great job (or so it would seem) portraying their characters, but there’s something about seeing an original band playing music that really belonged to them that just can’t be duplicated.
I’m also liking the new version!
Dakota looks like David Bowie.
the new video is awesome and the movie looks better and better each time can’t wait to see it.dakota did a really good job and so did kristen. i prefer the new version but the old version is good too.also i agree with ama they look so much liek the real people especially during sundance.thanks for posting
i just dont get rockstar vibe from kristen.
dakota yes….kristen……..not even a little.
dakota is gunna be the shining star from this movie for sure.
Not bad, but I prefer the original. The Runaways were almost frightening, LOL. I love old Runaways music.
I don’t get the same scary feeling from the new version. But, not bad at all.
They seem like little girls from suburbia, it’s cute but not convincing.
I CANT WAIT TO WATCH IT. XP
you can tell dakota really threw herself into this role and had a blast! im really looking forward to seeing scout taylor compton in this, even thought her role is so small.
Both Dakota and Kristen look amazing in their roles!
Dakota does a fine job, but the original version is -dare I say it – the bomb! Cherie’s singing “Can’t stay at home can’t stay in school…” in that deep voice of hers, well, it’s one my favorite opening verses. I remember thinking it was a man singing when I first heard it (in the film “Dazed and Confused” of all things!) Then Cherie breaks into that awesome wail, and my girl crush is revived! Oh, and I want to be Joan Jett when I grow up!:)
Wow… this video really got me pumped and now I can’t wait to see this movie. They appear to have done a fantastic job of channelling the originals.
does anyone else out there have a problem with dakota fanning, who just turned 16 on 2/23/10 (making her only 15 when this was filmed!), being dressed in skimpy lingerie and playing a very overtly sexual role? ….kind of creeps me out a bit….
@lady surgeon — I believe Dakota already played a rape victim in a film a couple years ago … clearly, her parents have no problem with her playing roles that are risque.
I think I owned that underwear when I was 15 :)
@ Trent – Oh wow! really? hmmm….just don’t know if i would want my underage daughter gyrating around on the big screen in her undies for the world to see…but i guess the paycheck might be rather persuasive! ;)
@lady surgeon — I agree. But, it seems that Dakota is pretty grounded considering her young acting career.
@Trent – you are right about that!
@lady surgeon & @Trent….I too thought “Dang she is young to be dressed like that” however upon further research found that the real Cherie Currie was only 15/16 when she joined The Runaways and had Cherry Bomb written for her at her audition. Who knew?
