Last Friday the cast and crew of the long-running daytime drama The Young and the Restless celebrated the 37th anniversary of the soap in a lavish celebration that brought together many Y&R alums from the past to party with some members of the current cast. It’s hard to believe that the show is now 37 years old and still goin’ very strong:

Because my mother and sister were fans of the show as I was growing up, I have a certain affinity for the soap … and have for many years (not quite 37 years but, well, close). I know that daytime dramas are dropping like flies these days but I’m hopeful that we still have many more years of Young and Restless drama to look forward to. After the jump, check out some photos from the Y&R 37th Anniversary party that was held here in SoCal earlier this month …

On March 26th, 1973, The Young and the Restless debuted on CBS and was an immediate success story. Fans were drawn to the struggles of the Brooks and Foster families in a midwestern metropolis called Genoa City. Later, the Bells would add families that live on today in the Newmans, the Abbotts, the Winters and the Baldwin/Fisher clans. On March 9th, 2010, the Bell hosted a very special anniversary party for the cast and the crew at the Via Alloro Restaurant in Beverly Hills, California to celebrate the lasting success of the enduring daytime drama.
Here’s to another 37 years … or, you know, at least 3 to 7 more years! Woot!!

This show keeps getting better and better. I’d love for the #1 soap to tackle a gay love-story –see how their fans respond to it. Here’s hoping to many more great stories!
[...] The not-so-young and restless (PITNB) [...]
I turned it on the other day and there’s all these young hussies on there! It’s like, where did the cougars go, eh? I dunno. I used to watch this show with my mom all the time when I was younger, especially when I stayed home at school.
This actually isn’t the longest running daytime soap. Days of Our Lives, which has been on for 44 years (November 1965), is the 2nd longest running soap and General Hostpial, which has been on for 46 years (1963) is the longest.
As The World Turns used to be the longest, starting in 1956, but it ended this year.
@Kage — I didn’t say it’s the longest running, I said it is a long running soap.
its weird vail bloom is still there smiling in photos when she has been replaced with eden riegel.. trent did vail get fired or did she quit ???!!
@kate — I read she was fired but the party was earlier this month … mebbe she wasn’t fired yet?
I LOVE y&r!!! i especially love that Billy Miller :)
I’m a die hard Billy and Mac fan!
I think Vail was already off the show but still attended the party anyway. I’m not quite sure if she was actually fired if she wanted to leave.
hrmmmm I actually liked VB… I just don’t see ER in the role but oh well we will see what happens! Marcy Rylan as Abby will be just weird…
