Last night the ArcLight Cinemas Cinerama Dome hosted the Hollywood premiere of the much-anticipated biopic The Runaways which features Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning as the leading ladies of the 70′s rock group of the same name. Joining Stewart and Fanning at last night’s premiere was Joan Jett, Cherie Curie and a host of other folks who either appear in the film or just wanted to lend some support at the premiere. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets about last night’s event:
She’s famous for her role in the fantasy Twilight films. But for her latest movie Kristen Stewart, 19, has taken a reality check and plays iconic rock star Joan Jett of the Seventies band The Runaways. The pair posed together on the red carpet of the film’s Hollywood premiere, but Joan, 51, threatened to almost upstage the young ingenue as she showed off an amazing youthful look. The pair posed together on the red carpet alongside Dakota Fanning, 16, who wore a strapless silver sequinned dress, and her real-life counterpart Cherie Currie, the group’s former lead singer. And Kristen looked rather more cheerful than usual in a coral pink dress as she arrived at the Cinerama Dome Arclight Theatre. Her Twilight co-star Taylor Lautner also came along to the event … Jett, 51, who founded The Runaways along with drummer Sandy West, has been a huge help to Kristen throughout the filming of the biopic. While on US TV’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this week, Kristen said of the role: ‘I was really lucky to have her [Jett] be so into the project and so open about it, because not a lot of people my age know about The Runaways. It was the most important part of her life and kick-started her career. And also, they were the first girl band. They were the first girls to ever play aggressive, sexual assertive rock and roll.’ The Runaways were an American all-girl teenage rock band, on the music scene between 1975 to 1979. The band is best known for the songs Cherry Bomb, Queens of Noise, Rock n Roll, Neon Angels (On the Road to Ruin) and Born to Be Bad.
The film doesn’t open in theaters until next Friday (the 19th) but we are deffo in the homestretch. It’s a bit unusual for a movie premiere to be held this early before the film opens but, in all liklihood, there will be other premieres in other cities next week leading up to the film’s opening. We know that Scout Taylor-Compton plays Lita Ford in the film and I understand that Riley Keough (the late Elvis Presley‘s granddaughter) plays Marie Currie (Cherie‘s siter) in the film. Taylor Lautner and Kayla Ewell (ex-Vampire Diaries) were just there for support. I’m really looking forward to seeing this film … I have been for months. The countdown beings … 7 days and it opens. Wee!

i remember hearing during the trailer on tv, that select cities are getting the movie early, so maybe thats why they’re doing the early premiere?
and those dresses…ugh.
Kristen Stewaret in PINK???? I’m in shock……Dakota’s dress is okay, but Kristen’s and Kayla’s are horrible….I’m sure they were trying to go edgy for the premiere but Kristen’s dress just doesn’t flatter her.

I’m no fan of the idea that women should always be smiley and sweet, but I swear to mittens, Kristen Stewart is young, beautiful, and doing fantastic work for which she’s being recognized and rewarded–I can not stomach another set of photos with her looking so unhappy. If she can’t handle a photo call and all the attention I wish she’d take to underground theater or work as a director so I don’t have to see photos of her so abjectly miserable.

For G*d’s sake people, she’s only a teenager and your rude unnecessary comments are really getting annoying. she’s actually TRYING to please all of you idiots by working on her public speaking skills (oscars), actually smiling in pictures, and wearing more feminine clothing. i wanna see what all of you look like to be criticizing her. she has anxiety issues which are clear to see and your insensitive comments are really not helping for somebody thats in a stage in their life (adolescence) where theyre vulnerable.

I actually think Kristen looks good here, she looks like she showered and washed her hair for a change. Kristen even took time to paint her finger and toe nails.
People don’t have to get use to Kristen not smiling. Kristen has to get used to being in the public eye, if she wants to stay in the business. There are a lot of people who don’t like crowds and they still seem to be able to smile. Kristen being 19 has nothing to do with how she acts in public especially, when there are younger actors that seem to do just fine. Kristen has to keep it together or it could destroy her career.
Someone is working with Kristen, because she is even posing better and not standing hung over. She has got her hands on her hips and looks more confident.
She seems to do better when Rob is not around…hhhhhmmmmm?????
