Last night, David and I met up with our good friends Josh and Emma for a quick dinner at Prizzi’s Piazza before we made our way to the Pantages Theater in Hollywood, CA to see a performance of the beloved Broadway hit Cats!

Of the 4 of us, I was the only one who had seen the show before … and, unfortunately, none of my theater companions could follow what the hell was going on thruout the show. David kept whispering to me, “What is a ‘Jello Cat’?” and even after I explained what was going on at intermission, the three of them were still a bit confused. David did like the part where the cat lady (who he called Tina Turner) flew off into outer space on her space ship. Because the majority of the songs are based on poetry by T.S. Eliot, the songs are not the sing-songy showtunes that people usually respond to. The dance … the show is really all about the dance.

We had a great time and I have to commend the Cats cast for putting on a fantastic show last night. I have to give a shout-out to Pink readers Drew Roelofs (Plato, Macavity) and Adam Steiner (Rum Tum Tugger) especially for their amazing performances last night. Steiner proudly declares that he is a Detroit native, which endears him all the more to my heart! Great job you guys … thanks for sharing your talents with us here in LA :)

After the jump, if you so desire, you can check out some photos that we snapped last night of our fun night out …

Despite the confusion, we had a great time last night … I’m so glad we got to see Cats here in LA at the Pantages. I love that theater and it was really fun seeing Cats again on stage so many years after I saw it back in Detroit ;)

Not sure what the plan is for tonight … but I hear Josh and Emma may have a great idea up their sleeve. We shall see. Happy Weekend, y’all!!

HA! “Jello Cats”, classic! My boyfriend thought they were saying Angelican Cats when we saw the show in Denver. I had to explain it to him that they were not in fact cats who members of the Church of England, but special space like cats.

  7. daniel says:

um, the reason ppl don’t “get” CATS is b.c it is a nonlinear show. it has no story line to speak of. each song is basically a stand-alone vignette
