Jude Law Works Out Custody Agreement Over His Daughter Sophia Lee
Twice a Year

As you may recall, at the start of this month we learned that 4-time dad Jude Law finally decided to meet his daughter in person, 5 months after she was born. The meeting was brought about by Jude‘s babymama Samantha Burke who has been working towards a custody agreement for their lovechild Sophia Lee. It appears that that meeting in Miami, FL was a fruitful one because terms of the child’s custody have reportedly been agreed upon. Apparently, Jude Law has agreed to pay for the child’s “maintenance fees” and will meet with the child “twice a year”. Um … Father of the Year, anyone?

Jude Law has reportedly hashed out a custody deal with the mother of his lovechild – he will allegedly see his daughter twice a year and pay maintenance. The Brit became a father for the fourth time in September after American model Samantha Burke conceived during a brief fling with the actor while he filmed Sherlock Holmes in New York. Law met little Sophia for the first time last month during a trip to Florida and is said to have agreed a deal with Burke to visit her bi-annually and hand over regular childcare payments, according to Britain’s News of the World. The maintenance payments are believed to total $5,000 a month and were agreed along with a confidentiality clause which will prevent Burke from talking to the press. A source tells the newspaper, “Jude will visit his daughter at least twice a year, once around Christmas. His visit (to meet Sophia in February) was fleeting and seemed mainly business-like.” Law also has three kids with ex-wife Sadie Frost.

I mean … yeah. While I personally think this arrangement still totally sucks (especially for the innocent baby), I suppose it’s worth looking on the bright side here … at least baby Sophia Lee will have some contact with her father, which is far better than no contact at all. I can appreciate that Jude may not be a huge fan of babymama Samantha Burke (even tho he absolutely could’ve taken great pains to protect himself from an unwanted pregnancy — wrap it up every time, y’all), it boggles my mind how one can be so cold to an innocent baby … of one’s own flesh and blood! But, again, I’m digressing. The good news is that a custody agreement has been worked out … and it is very possible that a healthy and truly loving relationship might spring from these small seeds of contact. Let’s just hope for the best, for the baby’s sake.

Maybe his baby mama is the one who wants it that way. The less time he spends with his daughter, the more money she gets through child support. And with Jude’s paycheck, I’m sure it will be enough to keep both her and the baby adequately comfortable. Just saying.

When my parents divorced when I was 4, the custody arrangement was that I would see my father every other weekend. But then my Mom remarried and we moved out of state when I was 9. After that, the arrangement became just twice a year. Granted, Jude Law is a celebrity who can presumably afford to pay for airfare and make the time to travel to see his kid more than twice a year (more so than the Average Joe)but I’m just saying this happens in the real world, too.

Also, as someone who dated a guy who had a child with an ex-girlfriend (she found out she was pregnant after they broke up), these situations are sooo freaking complicated! Even when he wanted to see his child, the ex was a bitch and would make it difficult. Unfortch, the child cannot be separated from the ex, so to speak (emotionally/psychologically/metaphorically). I was in my early 20′s at the time and the whole situation GREATLY impressed upon me the lifetime committment that comes with having children…probably why I still don’t have any yet some 15 years later. :)

Okay, first of all, the arrangement said “AT LEAST twice a year.” And did any of you consider that maybe the visitation was in relation to Sophia coming to Jude’s house in London and spending time? That he wanted her to do that at least twice a year? One of them being at Christmas (which I think is heartwarming, since he always does a Christmas vacation with the kids)? Hello, it’s because the child will eventually be in school, so how is she going to go to London except maybe in the summer and at Christmas? Do you all really think that the “source” gave the whole story? Because “sources” are always credible paragons of truth, while the celebrity in question is the piece of slime? Come on. Is anybody concerned how many times Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman see their mutual children, when Nicole lives in Australia and Tom in LA? What about Kate Winslets 2 kids by 2 different daddies, and now she’s divorcing yet again? What kind of visitation will those kids get? Gee, Jude’s situation isn’t so rare, is it?
We may never know the number of times Jude visits Florida, but my bet is he’ll do it. But that’s not going to be good enough anyway, is it? What kind of visitation is that going to be? A neutral location for a meeting? He’s certainly not going to go to the crazy-ass famehungary “model’s” house with her crazy-ass family and stay. So it makes MORE sense that the official visitation arrangement is for the child to be at her daddy’s home in London. And quit telling Jude to “man up”….obviously he has “manned up”. As for anyone putting “blame” on them, who the hell are you people to “blame” anyone? It’s THEIR situation, they are handling it, and I agree with the person who said children are not “mistakes.”….but I am in hopes that SB finally realizes that Sophia is a beatiful child in her own right and not just Jude Law’s child…a fact she’s already tried to market. THAT’S what stinks. And finally, it’s nobody’s business whether Jude snips or not. He takes responsbility for his own….unlike the welfare moms and their deadbeat baby daddy’s who we DO support in this country, who inexplicably keep having children they can’t afford and don’t earn the money to raise.
So I’ll say this….Tiger is married, he definitely should be keeping it in his pants except when with his wife….Jesse James should have kept it in his pants instead of the hooker…Jude is single, he can have whatever effin sex he wants to.
But I get it, it’s more fun to bash Jude and make it sound worse than what it is instead of giving him the benefit of the doubt. He has absolutely stuck to his MO about this and not spoken about it, but we’ll eat up anything the so-called sources say, which could be only a fraction of the whole picture, but we’ll more than happily fill in the blanks with our overactive imaginations and make Jude the bad guy. Sheesh. Give the guy a break.

*oh my god, I can’t believe I wrote that whole thing* I honestly didn’t mean to, I guess I had a lot to say.
What I should have said instead was, “hey guys, I don’t think it’s really as bad as is being suggested….really.”

    *sigh*
