Last August we learned the DREADFUL news that MTV is planning to adapt the UK series Skins for US television … which pretty much ever fan of the original series is vehemently against. The UK version is raw, outrageous and absolutely British … the fear is that the US version will be watered down, sanitized and a poor attempt at Britishness which will only result in lameness. Well, like it or not … plans for a US version of Skins have moved forward from that announcement last year and today, courtesy of CelebriScoop, we get our first look at the US cast of Skins:

The U.S. Skins cast have officially been chosen and the filming has already started. The pilot for the show was filmed last week, which means the show won’t be aired until around September or so. Fortunately for you, my friend knows someone who is auditioning, so I’ve got a picture for all of you. However, at this time I am unsure of who is who or what characters the people in this photo will be playing. I also do not know whether they are rewriting a plot or what the plan is. I do hope it allows for all the famous sex-driven alcohol-loving party-crazed teen kicks as the U.K. series.
I’m sorry … I am totally against this idea. The original show, which can be seen here in the US on BBC America, renders a US version totally moot. I find it highly doubtful that I will enjoy this new version nearly as much as I love the original. I’ve been watching new eps of the 4th season of Skins online since the show debuted last month. Last week’s ep, which focused on J.J., was really fantastic … I just cannot see the US version having nearly as much charm, wit and substance. After the jump, check out one more photo of this new cast of Skins who are coming our way whether we like it or not …

It just looks like a poor imitation. I’m far from impressed. I doubt this show will do anything to win over true fans of the original.

yeah, it’s gonna be a total failure…
Most shows that transition here from other countries are failures because we are so up tight and sensor out all the good stuff.
They look….well… boring compared to the Brits.
(No offense USA, though…its just my two cents)
this looks godawful. also, all the cast looks like 12 years old.
Ya know….
You really can’t get much better than the original. That being said, I feel it safe to assume that the American version is going to flop. It won’t be nearly as good without all the drug use, excessive drinking and colorful language.
Ugh! Worse. Idea. Ever
Gah.
This makes my heart hurt.
why?!?!?
I think making a US version is a terrible idea, like many of you, I love the UK version (BTW Series 4 has been mind-blowingly amazing)! But I hope that they would at least TRY (emphasis on the TRY) to do the original justice, but this cast looks way too young to even ATTEMPT to be anywhere as good as the original. It’s really disappointing, but I know I’ll be tuning in anyways just to see how much of a trainwreck it is.
this looks so freaking bad, totally disappointed.
Everyone keeps saying how this will flop. MTV has made some very bad things. but sometimes i think they know what they’re doing. they might realize the expectations everyone has and they might actually make it GOOD. dont just jump to conclusions. give it a chance.
@Noah — Oh I’ll deffo give it a chance, no question I’ll watch. I doubt I’ll be impressed, that’s all.
I can’t see anything good coming from this remake. America isn’t daring enough to go where Skins goes – really capturing teen life. This is just going to be some poor, cheesy, watered down imitation. I can already imagine how it’s going to be: a melodramatic plot line involving Cassie and her eating disorder; Tony being Chuck Bass 2.0; Chris’s friends staging an intervention for his drug use; Cassie and Michelle fighting over Sid. Yippieee…
I hope it bombs hardcore! What network commissioned it or is planning to air it? I am glad you are able to watch season 4 in UK, told you JJ. episode was the shit!
please remember that this is being developed with the co-creator at the helm. do not judge from a picture that was taken from a cell. did MTV confirm that this is the US cast? anyway, we did take The Office from the UK and made it into what it is…you have all decided it’s a bad idea without even seeing what it is about.
@mama c — Kath and Kim, the Aussie show adapted for the US, was overseen by the original actresses and writers … and it was terrible. The co-creators of the original UK Skins are very talented but mark my words, this US version will sanitize and ruin Skins. Trust me on that.
How can I watch season 4 online?! I’m dying here!!!!
i just hope they keep the same opening credits. i always love the opening scenes. its different than the beginning of most shows in the US.
@April
sidereel.com just search skins. and click the megavideo links. thats what works for me.
The thought of an american version of the show makes me want to cry. Putting aside all the drinking, drug use and sex of the original show (which is fairly realistic, if you ask me), the most important thing are the emotions the cast brought/bring to the characters. Most of the episodes make me feel as if I am right there, experiencing their pain. I doubt that MTV would be able to replicate the same effect :(
they ruined coupling, which i believe had the creators at the helm, the only stand out that survived was the office and thats only because the original went for one season , and this one from what i read and seen…. its going to be ‘adjusted’ to the american teen and parents meaning that almost everything we seen on the original which i love!!! …. is going to be watered down to after school specials and the sort …. but then again this is the same network that brought jersey shore ….. so who knows what they might do with it ….
Does no one on TV remember the “Coupling” fiasco. You just can’t translate something so awesome and British into something all sanitized and American. There is a reason there was no American Monty Python….some things should just be left awesome.
honestly, i don’t think US Skins would work. Skins was made to be about students doing their A-levels and what they do during those two years but in America, you guys dont do A-levels, your still in high school and it just wouldn’t be the same. You guys have like the OC and Gossip Girl and stuff for your teen dramas during those last few years of high school or whatever, but Skins is our version of those teen dramas. It is a bit more dark then like GG but it still has the same ideas about late teenage life – parties, drink, drugs, relationships, sex etc. So why not just enjoy the British show and leave it alone, instead of trying to re-make it…. (:
