First Look: The US Version Of ‘Skins’
Like it or not, here it comes

Last August we learned the DREADFUL news that MTV is planning to adapt the UK series Skins for US television … which pretty much ever fan of the original series is vehemently against. The UK version is raw, outrageous and absolutely British … the fear is that the US version will be watered down, sanitized and a poor attempt at Britishness which will only result in lameness. Well, like it or not … plans for a US version of Skins have moved forward from that announcement last year and today, courtesy of CelebriScoop, we get our first look at the US cast of Skins:

The U.S. Skins cast have officially been chosen and the filming has already started. The pilot for the show was filmed last week, which means the show won’t be aired until around September or so. Fortunately for you, my friend knows someone who is auditioning, so I’ve got a picture for all of you. However, at this time I am unsure of who is who or what characters the people in this photo will be playing. I also do not know whether they are rewriting a plot or what the plan is. I do hope it allows for all the famous sex-driven alcohol-loving party-crazed teen kicks as the U.K. series.

I’m sorry … I am totally against this idea. The original show, which can be seen here in the US on BBC America, renders a US version totally moot. I find it highly doubtful that I will enjoy this new version nearly as much as I love the original. I’ve been watching new eps of the 4th season of Skins online since the show debuted last month. Last week’s ep, which focused on J.J., was really fantastic … I just cannot see the US version having nearly as much charm, wit and substance. It just looks like a poor imitation. I’m far from impressed. I doubt this show will do anything to win over true fans of the original.

    YUp I agree Iam not liking this idea of having a US verison of Skins! Its NOT going to be raw and thats what I like the best of the British Version of SKINS

    Last week’s episode was great. Nothing like that could be shown on US television…and JJ’s episode was tame compared to most of the others so far this season. This is a major Fail. Why not just let us enjoy the British version? They import so many American shows and love them for what they are. Why must we change this?!

    I just started watching Skins, and I am halfway through season 2. I really love it, and just like everyone else has said, I can’t imagine MTV doing it any justice. I’ll definitely check it out, but I do not have high expectations…

    ummm one word i have for US skins- FAILURE. seriously. Why have US to copy other countries’ movies/tv shows to earn money without working hard to get original idea. they are too lazy to make up of their own. DAMMIT. And Skins from UK is in english so why bother??!!!!!!! i’m pissed off w/ us since they remakes a lot of my favorite foreign movies into a bunch of trashes.

    I suppose it remains to be seen whether this show will be good. However I have read elsewhere that they are essentially refilming Season 1 of the British Skins – it’s almost line for line. That alone makes me really pessimistic as to the quality of this show. It misses out on what makes Skins so great – it’s written by young people for young people and has a level of creativity and humor that I think comes naturally to younger writers. Moreover, the Skins writers write from experience. Yeah, the Skins characters get into all sorts of shenanigans that normal kids don’t encounter in day to day life, but all the characters come from life. We all know a Cassie, and a Michelle, and a JJ, and a Naomi… even Cook and Effy, two of the more extreme characters, are recognizable I think. What MTV should have done was to imitate the creative process of Skins Britain as opposed to the plot and the characters. Preserved the organic quality of the show…

    I’ll prob watch the pilot out of curiosity, but beyond that, we’ll just have to see…

    I might have given it a chance if it was a new story with new characters but it’s a complete carbon copy of the original with the exception of the change of sex in some of the characters (maxxie to the lesbian cheerleader). They released the script for the first episode and it’s 100 percent word for word from the original, so there’s really no need for long times fans to even watch it because we really all know what’s going to happen. I really feel this is just going to kill the spirit of the series and turn it into some mass produced overrated show.. Skins to me is like a revolutionary show I have never seen anything like it and the guts are the Essence of the show. This American version won’t have that same essence because they’re not allowed to air it on American television, and it’s just going to end up in the same category as one tree hill or gossip girl. Lame.

    sam, dont watch it on the day it airs! watch a rerun of the first episode…if we want this to fail (which i do, and thats coming from USA) we cant give it a lot of views on the first show or else they’ll count it as a success. I can’t believe theyre doing this….skins is one of my all time favorite shows…and USA is gunna ruin it…whyyyy?!?!? Leave it alone pleaaasseee. </33
