First Listen: Jessica Simpson, ‘Who We Are’
"It's basically about all the discoveries I found within myself"

Jessica Simpson called in for an interview this morning on Ryan Seacrest‘s morning radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest on KIIS FM here in LA to talk about the world premiere broadcast of her new song Who We Are which will be the theme song to her new VH1 reality TV series The Price of Beauty. As you may be aware, Jessica strangely teamed up with Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan to work on this song (and, reportedly, to work on other things as well) and she talked a bit about her collaboration with Billy to Ryan Seacrest as well:

Jessica claims that she “wrote” the song herself but only got help from Billy and his producer who “lives up the street” from her and offered their assistance. It was her aim to work “organically” with these talented musicians and finds Billy “so kind” for helping her with the song. She went on to say that she can’t find “good enough words to speak about” him and refers to him as her “good friend”. It is her desire to make more music with him in the future. I’ve heard the song, it’s kinda terrible … but I’ll let you judge for yourselves.

After the jump, listen to Who We Are in full, check out a preview vid clip of Jessica‘s new show The Price of Beauty and find out where YOU can download a free MP3 of Who We Are just in case you like the song …

Yeah … I’m not really a fan of the sing-songyness of this song. I find it hard to believe that Billy Corgan had anything to do with it but, there you have it. If you would like to listen to the audio of Jessica Simpson‘s interview with Ryan Seacrest you can do so HERE. If you would like to download a free MP3 of Who We Are (for only the cost of your email address) you can do so HERE. I’m not a fan of this song … but I’d like to know what y’all think. Do YOU like it?

Wow! Her voice was all over the place. I can get past the lyrics and that annoying title that is so overly repetitive throughout the song, but her vocals have got to go.

  2. fiona says:

The song is kinda typical theme tune pop stuff its not awful and it kind of fits the show…I mean is Tyra’s top model song any better??…no!

The show looks really interesting though. Something I would definately watch.

  3. Lana says:

It’s okay. I love her voice, I just wish she had better songs to showcase it.

  4. Tom says:

It’s alright…not horrible but not awesome.

  5. Mr. Gyllenhaal says:

    Nothing special!

  6. krissy says:

I have some sympathy for Jess. She isn’t the most talented person out there, but I really don’t think she deserves the treatment from the press that she has received over the past few years. I tend to support the underdog, so I am looking forward to her show. Hopefully she has found a project that suits her.

  7. Josh C. says:

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! I think the song looks like a perfect theme for her new show which I’m really interested in watching. I love the sound of her voice and I think the collaboration really worked!

  8. Megan says:

I think the concept of the show is actually really cool. I’ll definitely be tuning in.

  9. Tim says:

I know Jessica appear on Oprah last week but I’m sure she got the idea for the show from and Oprah show with Lisa Ling.

  10. Manda says:

What an awful song. I mean, I guess the lyrics are fine, but the music and her singing are off. BTW, I thought she was a “country” artist now? : )

  11. Lolly says:

I think it’s a good song I dont mind it I always liked Jessica’s music and this one is nice the theme of it is very important nowadays with all these issues young women suffer of.

  12. Jeana says:

  13. mikisix says:

    How embarassing for Billy Corgan!

  14. Chuy says:

Horrible. The thing is, though, I am rooting for her. But with material like this (like she’s still in 1997), she makes me cringe.

  15. amanda says:

so this ‘preview vid’ was just 4 commercials about products… fail?

  16. judsonnewyork says:

Listen, I never watched an episode of the newlyweds, and can honestly say that I have never heard one of her songs in its entirety because I usually changed the station…having said that, between this new show and her appearance on Oprah, my opinion of ole’ girl is starting to change. Watching the preview when this song is played and it’s showing Jessica with a little girl with a cleft palate, it’s really quite beautiful. Brought a tear to this ice queen’s eye. So I’m pulling for her and I’ll definitely be watching.

  17. Sarkasmi says:

    YYyyeah….

*Just tossed all the rest of respect out of the window he had left for Billy Corgan*

He’s officially part of the shiny happy sucky MTV posse now.

  18. Sarah says:

I think she needs to get behind the mic and sing in a way that comes natural to her. She seems so put upon and like she has no idea who she wants to be as an artist. She’s trying too hard. We had pop, then country, now I’m not even sure what to call this

  19. jamii says:

love her and loved this song! Keep on Jess and ignore the haters !!!!

  20. kim says:

WHAT. THE. HELL. IS THIS SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
