Ewan McGregor Is Cast In ‘W.E.’, Will Be Directed By Madonna
He will play Edward VIII

Last month we learned that Madonna has decided to direct a new movie titled W.E. which will focus on a very important part of British history and today we learn that Ewan McGregor has been cast as the film’s lead. W.E. will reportedly focus on “the affair between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson that led the Brit royal to abdicate the throne to marry his two-time divorcee lover” and McGregor will play Edward VIII:

Ewan McGregor has joined the cast of Madonna’s upcoming project W.E. to play Edward VIII. McGregor, currently starring in Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer, will portray the British Monarch who famously abdicated the throne in 1936 order to marry America divorcee Wallis Simpson. As previously announced Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga will portray Simpson. Abbie Cornish, most recently seen in Bright Star, is set to play a contemporary character in a parallel time line reminiscent of Julie & Julia. Shakespeare In Love producer David Parfitt is producing with former Miramax executive Colin Vaines. Madonna will direct and is writing the screenplay with her Truth Or Dare director Alek Keshishian.

This is great news for Madonna … scoring an amazing actor like Ewan McGregor gives her film much weight and ensures a better chance at success. This is bad news for Ewan, I’m afraid, cuz … well … he’ll be starring in a film directed by Madonna. What do y’all think … is this good news or bad news?

I agree Trent – better news for Madonna than Ewan….

I agree Trent. A great coup for Madonna…Ewan is a great actor. For him? Not such a great deal. Putting a Madonna movie on your resume isn’t such a good idea. I’d like to think that Madonna can make something of this movie (even though I can’t stand her), but know it’ll probably be a big miss. The subject matter just isn’t good….even after 70 the Brits still call Wallis “that woman”. She wasn’t a nice person and no amount of good written script can make her so.

I love EW…I think this is bad news for him!! Don’t do it!! Who knows thou, maybe he will make it a hit. The boy can act!

I was hoping she’d drop this movie idea and get her ass back into the recording studio. That being said the movie sounds intriguing to me and it seems to be something M is really passionate about. When she puts her mind to something she does it to the best of her ability so I’ll wait to pass judgment until I see the film. Or at least the trailer.

Meh – I think Ewan is the type of actor who can take risks like this and not give a rat’s ass whether the outcome is a successful movie or not. He’s been in some of the best and worst movies of all time and IMO is still one of the hardest working and under rated stars out there.

Why does she have to ruin other peoples lives for? I think it’s her main hobby.

why would that be bad news for Ewan? It’s not like he had no choice. I for one feel quite comfortable knowing someone like Ewan trusts this project…I mean, it can’t be that bad, if he is willing to join the cast. And just because Madonna is directing it doesn’t mean it’s doomed to flop. Only “news” like this condemn projects even before they get a chance to convince.

    bad news for him :(

Ewan always seems to do what he wants to do, no matter what the “risks” might be. He’s a great actor and I absolutely love him, as an actor, and as a human being.

For the AMAZING cast’s(including Abby and Vera) sake, I’m actually hoping that a Madonna film turns out well.

If Madge is attached, it’s a guaranteed bomb.

It’s like she’s trying to compete with her ex Guy Ritchie. “Look at me! I ca direct a movie, too!”. On the upside, at least she won’t be acting in it.

Bad News for all of society, once again Madonna tries to cozy up to her love of the United Kingdom and bring some tripe movie to the masses. I wonder how the royal family will feel regarding another biopic movie about their sordid past. As if they don’t have enough to deal with.

*groans* Why, Ewan, why? Why do you take everything that gets offered to you? Think Amelia. Think Cassandra’s Dream. Think Deception. Think Indendiary. My god, Star Wars was a long time ago. Moulin Rouge was a long time ago. Think “most overpaid actor.”

Think SWEPT AWAY, for god’s sake, man! She ruins.
