Very sad news to pass along today … child actor Corey Haim — from such 80′s films as Silver Bullet, Lucas, Dream a Little Dream, The Lost Boys, etc. — has died due to an apparent drug overdose. Haim was found in an unresponsive state at the home he shared with his mother earlier this morning and was pronounced dead at the hospital … he was only 38 years old :(
Corey Haim, a Hollywood teen star of the 1980s who became as famous for his struggles with substance abuse as his acting, died in Los Angeles of an apparent drug overdose, U.S. media reports said Wednesday. He was 38. In the 1980s, the Canadian-born Haim starred in “Lucas,” alongside Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder, and “The Lost Boys,” with Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric and Corey Feldman, as well as “License to Drive,” also with Feldman. He became known for his on-screen partnership and off-screen friendship with Feldman, another teen star, and they often were called “The Two Coreys.” Both struggled with drug abuse. The pair starred in a reality TV series on American cable television in the 2000s. According to media reports from Los Angeles, Haim was found unresponsive in his apartment and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Los Angeles police said the death was the result of an apparent drug overdose, the reports said.
Police said Corey Haim, 38, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank, California, where he was pronounced dead at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday (6:30 a.m. ET), police Sgt. Frank Albarran told CNN. The death appears to be accidental, possibly an overdose, Albarran said.
It’s no secret that Corey Haim suffered with drug abuse thruout much of his life. Like many child stars, he had been around the temptations of substance abuse from a very young age. I was under the impression that he had his addictions under control, especially in the past few years. It would seem that his demons got the better of him in the end. Corey Haim is such an integral part of my childhood. He was a staple in many of the films that shaped my adolescence. Altho news of his passing in this way isn’t an out of the blue surprise, it’s still very shocking to wake up to news of his sad death. Corey Haim will remain an important part of my childhood and he will be sorely missed. Rest well, Corey.

I’m so sad about this news this morning. I heard it on the radio on my way to work. I’m just so upset about it. Poor guy. I had hoped he was truly doing better.
That is so sad! I hope Corey Feldman handles this ok…and I also hope he doesn’t exploit this the way he seemed to do with Michael Jackson. Sigh. Very sad.

I’m 32 now. He was my first crush. Or, I should say, my first ‘age-appropriate’ crush as I had a major thing for Luke Skywalker. Anyway, I thought I was so very special as a family friend taught him in Toronto. Thought there was a chance I could meet him (he was already long gone to LA by then). I also have memories of my mom screaming at me because I put up too many Tiger Beat posters of Corey using scotch tape (would ruin the walls!)
Addiction is such a horrible disease so I truly hope he is resting after his struggles.
Lucas was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I was under the impression he was doing better too, but despite the cause of his death, he will be missed. Rip Corey

You know, I’m kind of sad that I’m not surprised..I figured it was just a matter of time before he overdosed..I’d hoped he’d get his crap together, but didn’t have much faith in it..So sad..Just..So sad..
This is sooo sad, he was always my fav. of the “Coreys”. I have to say that he might have been one of my first crushes. We need to keep a very close eye on the FeldDawg. First Michael now his better half…. :o/.

I LOVED Lucas and to this day if I see it on, I will have to stop what I’m doing and watch it. & @Krissy – OMG I forgot how tragic Corey F was at MJ’s funeral wearing the military get up… You KNOW though that he will probably milk this for all that he can to get attention. RIP Corey Haim…and let this be a lesson to everyone to either never do drugs or get help if you’re addicted. It’s only a matter of time til it gets the best of you if you don’t get help.

My best friend and I had crushes on the Corey’s as well. I just looked back on his ‘teen beat’ type pics, and he was so damn cute. His quirky smile, hilites, funky hair, oversized blazers.
It was so sad to see what had happened to him after so many years out of the spotlight, and so many years on crack. Tragic.
It sure makes me feel old when my teen idols start dying.

Cory Haim will always represent the cute, carefree and fun that those early teen years were. He brought such a sense of curiosity and innocence to his characters and seem to really have it all early. I guess in many cases that is too much too soon and this is often the devastation that early success can lead to. My heart breaks because a part of me felt for him and could see how lost and underdeveloped he appeared to be for his age and at this stage in life when he was in his reality show. I had hoped he be a success story. He will always be important to me and a reminder of my childhood. This is so sad.
I just read that there weren’t any “illicit” drugs found at his apartment, so I guess they’re thinking it was prescription drugs.
To this day when the movie “Lucas” is on my father will still call me up and tell me that the movie is on! May he rest in peace.
