Beyoncé Opens Her Own Cosmetology Center
A place to Pat yo' weave, laides ... pat, pat yo' weave

Superstar Beyoncé and her mother Tina Knowles were on hand at a ribbon cutting ceremony in Brooklyn, NY yesterday to officially open the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center which will operate at The Phoenix House — a residential substance abuse treatment center to help troubled young people turn their lives around. Here is a photo of the newly opened center and some deets about the ceremony yesterday:

The president of Brooklyn has declared Beyonce an official Brooklynite. Borough President Marty Markowitz said Beyonce is a Brooklynite by marriage and by moxie. Beyonce’s husband, Jay-Z, is from Brooklyn. The superstar visited the New York City borough Friday for the opening of the Beyonce Cosmetology Center at a residential substance abuse treatment center. The Phoenix House offers programs for residents in carpentry, building maintenance, computer technology and culinary arts. Beyonce said she thought it also should have more programs geared toward women. She said her mother’s Houston salon helped so many people feel good about themselves and better their lives. Beyonce first spent time at Phoenix House when preparing for the role of Etta James in the 2008 film, Cadillac Records.

While I certain the haters will have something snarky to say about Beyoncé opening up a beauty school but I think it’s really fantastic that she would want to be a part of such an important place for troubled people. Beyoncé is a role model to so many people … here, she can also be an inspiration for rehabilitated folks to turn their lives around. It’s very clear that the important kind of beauty comes from within … and Beyoncé is deffo one of the beautiful ones. I love that she decided to put her name on this place. Well done, B.

    i just find it funny, that shes opening a beauty school, when the past little while, her weave game has been horrible.
    and i have to say,i hate that its called “beyonce cosmo center”, its like shes making sure you know she had to do with it – ya know?…i dunno, i cant really word it right.

    Okay, so I’ll be the first “hater” to comment. I take my hat off to her for this program. I think it’s a great idea. BUT why does she have to have her name boldly attached to it? Why does she have to be so “look at me! look at me!” She could have left the Beyonce off and just called it the Brooklyn Cosmetology Centre or something similar.
    I also find it quite ironic that she needs attention to her roots! lol

    I’ll be a hater as well. Why does she need to sew her name into the title? Perhaps it’ll gather more attention but still! I definitely believe it’s like, “Oh hai, my name is Beyonce and this is BEYONCE Cosmetology Center.” Couldn’t she or they think of a better name???

    At least she knows where to put her money and what better way to invest it that on something that she also has a very high knowledge … which is beauty care. Let us just be happy that the attention seeker is now finding her happiness.

    We all know that celebrity endorsements make things seem a bit better, and perhaps her desire to put her name on the Cosmetology Center is an attempt to allow the women who go there feel more connected to her. It does add a bit of glamor to the whole recovery process to know that a celebrity like Beyonce is part of your road to recovery. I doubt Beyonce is so insecure with herself she needs to throw her name on anything that moves, I truly think she did it with for purely altruistic reasons.

    I think it’s great! Who cares if her name is on it, are you gonna hate on Jonathan Antin because his name is on a salon? There are plenty of people famous or not that have their name on stuff. Doesn’t make them any better and doesn’t make them any less.

    Good for her, it’s wonderful to see people helping others better themselves. =)

    Why is it such a big deal that her name is on it? So many celebs use their name to promote heir cause and so many attach their name to charities and other endeavors. I just don’t think anything she does will please people.

      @everyone — I don’t understand why people are so intent on hating on Beyonce. She didn’t ask to have her name put on the place, they asked her if she would allow them to name it in her honor and she graciously let them. This is not a narcissistic thing at all, it’s a wholly generous act.
