The role is his for the taking
Chris Evans Is Captain America

Earlier this week we learned that hottie actor Channing Tatum was up for the role of Captain America in the planned big screen adaptation of the comic book series and I was ALL EXCITED that my boy Chan might become this all-American hero. Late yesterday, tho, it was reported that the role of Captain America was offered to Chris Evans (who previously played Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in the Fantastic 4 films) … meaning it’s a done deal, y’all. Chris Evans will be Captain America if he wants the role:

The long, drawn out process to determine who will carry the shield of America’s greatest super-patriot is over. Sources have confirmed to HitFix that Chris Evans has been offered the role of the title hero in “The First Avenger: Captain America.” Other candidates for the part included Channing Tatum, Ryan Phillippe, John Krasinski and Mike Vogel. HitFix has learned the word about Evans’ casting came down this afternoon to the other potential Cap’s that the role was Evans’. Some of the other new actors auditioning for the role had not even met with director Joe Johnston yet when the decision was made. Evans is hardly a stranger to comic fans. He previously played hot-head Johnny Storm in 20th Century Fox’s two “Fantastic Four” movies. Assuming Evans takes the role, he’ll be committed to a number of future Marvel films including “Captain America” sequels, “The Avengers” and appearing in other Marvel Universe pictures. The 28-year-old actor last appeared on screen in 2009′s Sci-Fi thriller “Push.” He’ll star opposite Zoe Saldana in another comic book adaptation, “The Losers,” next month. He’ll follow that up with “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” which is based on a popular series of graphic novels. On a humorous note, this may be the second blonde Marvel hero the brown-haired Evans has played, but did not dye his hair for. Fans were initially ruffled when Evans stayed dark-haired as Johnny Storm so will he pull out the peroxide for Steve Rogers? Stay tuned. No word officially from Marvel Studios or distributor Paramount Pictures at this time.

OK … while I was in love with the idea of Channing Tatum playing Captain America, I can’t say I’m all that miffed that Chris Evan got the role. He is nice eye candy and I’m sure he’ll make a fine Captain America. Homie better bleach his hair tho … Captain America is blonde! At this point, because the report has yet to be confirmed, we don’t know if Evans has taken the role or not … but he’s be dumb not to. I’m fairly certain he’ll say yes, sign on the dotted line and be Captain America.

"We are Hole whether you like it or not"
Hole Performs At South By Southwest 2010

Courtney Love and her new version of Hole played a headline performance at the Spin magazine party at Stubb’s Amphitheater as part of the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX yesterday and by pretty much all accounts, they put on a great show. C. Love seems intent on proving that she is back with a vengeance and she is taking no prisoners. Here are a few photos from Hole‘s performance at SxSW last night and one review of the show:

America’s sweetheart is back. And back to her old self. Grunge queen Courtney Love unveiled her new lineup of Hole at the South by Southwest Music festival on Friday afternoon — and she had a few choice words for former bandmates and anyone else who might have had a problem with that. “We are Hole whether you like it or not, you suckshits,” cracked Love, introducing her new quartet of young-buck rock dudes. “This is the way it’s going to stay for a fucking long time!” It was clear that was fine with the 2,000-plus rabid fans who jammed into Stubb’s Amphitheatre for the band’s first U.S. gig as part of Spin magazine’s 25th annual SXSW party. And it was just as clear that Love isn’t screwing around this time. Anyone expecting the dishevelled, rambling train-wreck Courtney of recent years was in for a shock; this was freight-train Courtney, back on track, firing on all cylinders and barrelling over anyone stupid enough to get in her way. Dolled up like Stevie Nicks’ evil twin in a frilly black dress, a beaded headband, ripped black tights, green high heels and a sash that read Beware, Love — who is rumoured to be on a mission to re-establish her musical credibility with these shows — appeared clean, sober, focused and ready to throw down with any and all contenders for her rock-goddess tiara. With her left leg planted on her monitor, she put her hard-hitting band through its paces, opening with abbreviated versions of Pretty on the Inside and Sympathy for the Devil before tearing into a set that alternated blistering versions of classics like Miss World and Violet with new material from her upcoming CD Nobody’s Daughter. That song arrangement worked just fine; for the first time in a long time, Love’s current material holds up next to her back catalog. Her new tunes were fueled by massive power-chord riffs, slamming drums, and Love primal screaming NSFW lyrics like, “You’d be dumb to fuck with me / I could kick your scrawny ass … You skinny white bitch;” and the family-friendly refrain, “People like you f— people like me.” There were gentler moments, too, like the midtempo Pacific Coast Highway and the piano-driven power ballad Letter to God, in which she claims, “I never wanted to be the person you see.” Newfound humility aside, being Love means never having to say you’re sorry. And the foul-mouthed loose cannon was in fine form here, dishing bawdily about her bandmates’ sexual prowess, mocking Brett Michaels (“Pick me, Brett … I’d make that fucker get hair plugs so fast”) and explaining why she loves one of her new songs (“It reminds me of sex — fucked up hate sex”). Overall, she was clearly in high spirits, waving at friends, smiling broadly and enjoying her triumphant return to the stage. When told she only had time for one more song in her 45-minute showcase, she complained a bit — “I was going to bring it; I’m in the mood” — but quickly recovered her poise and blasted through one last rocker before calling it a day. “I’d stage-dive, but I’m far too elderly,” the 45-year-old widow of Kurt Cobain quipped at the end of her set. So instead, she curtsied, gave us all the finger and sashayed backstage with a smug smile that could only mean one thing: Mission fucking accomplished.

I have to admit … I’m very curious to see this new version of Hole perform live … which is why I got tix to see them play a show here in LA at the Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theater next month. I’m encouraged by this review … but I’ll have to judge for myself. At least we know that Courtney is finally serious about making and playing music again … let’s see if she’s got the chops to make it last.

The TV Guide
Ch-Ch-Ch-Cherie Bomb!

Last night David and I met up with our dear Valley Girls Angie, Justine and Kay for a fun little Gayte Night (gay + date night) out on the town together. We decided to go see The Runaways together at the ArcLight Theater in Sherman Oaks, CA:

I’ve been lookin’ forward to the release of this film for months now and I am happy to report it was worth the wait. While the film is called The Runaways, the focus is squarely on original lead singer Cherie Currie and her life in the band. As Curie, Dakota Fanning gives an amazing performance … honest, gritty and totally believable, Fanning becomes the teenage rockstar that she was portraying. Dakota truly is the star of this film. Kirsten Stewart, bless her heart, is good in this film but not spectacular. Her acting performance is very similar to the performances she gives in other films … I will say that K. Stew absolutely got the look and mannerisms of Joan Jett down perfectly. The movie is actually very good … it kinda gives you a feel for how gritty The Runaways were in the late 70′s without taking things too far. You get a small taste of what it was prolly really like … but, again, the film most likely holds back on the true grit of reality. While the other members of The Runaways are relegated to just background players (which is a bummer cuz Lita Ford ROCKS and should’ve been feature more) the other star of the film is Michael Shannon who plays Runaways Svengali Kim Fowley. He gave a great performance … really rounding out the cast. This movie will not break the bank nor will it win many awards but it is a great look into the short-life of Cherie Currie as frontwoman of The Runaways. For Dakota‘s performance alone, you must see this film.

After the movie, the ladies joined us for drinks and snacks at El Torito, after the jump check out some of our fun photos …

Britney Spears Rocks The Shorty Shorts

Spring may have finally sprung but Britney Spears is acting like it’s already Summer, y’all. Our dear Britney ventured out here in SoCal for the third day in a row (with agent/beau Jason Trawick in tow) to soak up the beautiful California sun and she was fully dressed for the occasion. Brit Brit dug out her fave pair of cut off jean shorts (and unfortch her fug UGGs boots) to make a soda run … behold:

Gross UGGs or not, she looks fantastic … well, mostly. Sure, her ratty weave looks like it’s never met a brush but I still love her to death. This is the Britney we know and love from the days of the reign of the Hollywood “It” Girl. As long as she keeps from going barefoot, I’m totally on board with her daily outings. She can step out with or without Jason … it’s all the same to me. I’m thinkin’ we may be seeing a lot of Britney Spears as the Spring and Summer progresses :)

In the off-season
Tom Brady Is A Fighter

Earlier this week we saw a few cute photos of football hunk Tom Brady throwin’ around a football with his pet pooch in an effort to stay in shape during the off-season. Today we get to see pics of Brady gettin’ in a boxing workout at a gym here in LA just a day later:

I would say that this is proof positive that Tom Brady is a lover AND a fighter. I can’t say that I’m a big football fan but I kinda love Tom Brady and his new expanding family. It’s nice to see that the footballer likes to engage in other sporting activities when he’s not playing professional football. Stay hot and sexy, Tom. Do your thang.

Adds DUI to his laundry list of crimes
Jason Wahler Busted . . . For The 7th Time!

Just this past Thursday we learned that Jason Wahler, former star of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and The Hills, was arrested for the 6th time in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and today we learn that — having just been released from a Mexican jail and returned to the USWahler was arrested AGAIN last night for drunk driving! People, this is his 7th arrest overall, his 6th in the US and his second arrest in a week! Jason got busted AGAIN!!!

Jason Wahler was arrested last night — in the United States for a change — for allegedly driving under the influence. Newport Beach PD tells us Wahler was popped last night around 10:54 PM. He was driving a 2008 Chevy Tahoe and described himself to police as “an actor.” He was released this morning under his own recognizance. As you may recall, Wahler was arrested in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico earlier this month after a bar fight.

Wow. I don’t even know what to say … J. Wahl must love jail cells. When I blogged about his arrest in Mexico on Thursday I predicted that he would very likely get busted again … I just didn’t know it would happen a day later. You know, if he loves been arrested so much … I say let him keep getting arrested until he is forced to stay behind bars for good. At the rate that he is going, permanent incarceration doesn’t seem that far off.

Watch: David Beckham, ‘Sport Relief 2010’

Back in January we learned that David Beckham posed for a special t-shirt with his picture on it that is being sold to raise money for the UK charity Sport Relief and in February we learned that he teamed up with comic actor James Corden to film a funny sketch to air on the Sport Relief 2010 telethon on UK television. Last night, Sport Relief aired in Europe and today we get to check out the skit that Becks did with Corden. Altho Becks is obviously very bummed these days due to the Achilles tendon injury which destroyed his last chance to compete in the World Cup this year, this funny skit shows Becks in much happier times … in bed with another man:

[Last] weekend David Beckham was in floods of tears after an Achille’s tendon injury put paid to his World Cup dreams this summer. And last night, he was crying again, but this time it was purely for comedy effect as he starred in a comedy skit for Sport Relief with James Corden. The Gavin And Stacey star and sportsman shared a bath together and got emotional as they held hands in bed watching Scott (Jason Donovan) and Charlene (Kylie Minogue) getting married in Neighbours. As they watched the Australian soap, a teary Becks says: ‘Don’t you think they are amazing together those two,’ to which Corden replies: ‘I think we’re amazing together’. The duo’s me-time, in which they are seen in fluffy robes, was part of a star-studded sketch in which Corden’s Gavin And Stacey character Smithy coaches a series of top stars including Andy Murray, Tom Daley, Jenson Button and the Manchester United squad featuring Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand. And after his hard work, Smithy takes a well-earned break, for a night in with the image-conscious LA Galaxy star. Away from the prying eyes of Victoria and Nessa, the boys indulge in a spot of preening. The pair share a bath together and James Corden tends to Becks’ hair, before they share a tender moment. The comedy actor said of his meeting: ‘I just wanted to lick him. Honestly, he was unbelievably nice. We went out for dinner, we went out, we socialised, we had a great time,’ he told Heat magazine. ‘And I was looking at him thinking, “Here’s a guy who’s had some truly nasty, horrible things written about him and his family in the past and yet he’s never spoken back about it, he’s always nice and is nothing but respectful to everybody”.’ He added: ‘The impact he has on everyone he meets is amazing. He was just lovely. I do feel like I sort of fell in love with him, genuinely.
Sport Relief You know when you have a crush on someone, meet them and then you go away and think, “Oh that was weird?”. It was like that – such great fun.’

Fortunately, a clip of the skit has made its way to the Internets … trust me, it’s worth seeing. James Corden — in the guise of humor — gets to live out the fantasy of countless Beckham fans in this minute and a half clip. Check it out in full, after the jump …

First Look: ‘Glee: The Music, The Power of Madonna’

Last month we got a peek at the upcoming new “Madonna episode” of the hit FOX TV series Glee which will be devoted to the music of her Madgesty and today we get our first look at the album artwork for a special album which will feature the songs used on the show. The ep is titled The Power of Madonna and it is described thusly:

“The Power of Madonna” is the fifteenth episode of the American television series Glee. The episode will premiere on the Fox network on April 20, 2010. It was directed by series creator Ryan Murphy, and serves as a musical tribute to Madonna, featuring cover versions of ten of her songs, with the singer having granted Glee the rights to her entire catalog of music. Glee: The Music – The Power Of Madonna, an album containing studio recordings of songs performed in the episode, will [also] be released on April 20, 2010.

What an ingenious marketing strategy … what better way to highlight the Madonna song used on the show AND make some money as well. After the jump, check out the tracklisting for Glee: The Music, The Power of Madonna and find out where you can pre-order the album online …
