Earlier today we learned that David Beckham suffered a painful ankle injury during gameplay in Europe yesterday … an injury that very likely has ruined his chances at playing in the World Cup this year. Right now we get to see a couple photos of Becks‘s arrival in Finland this morning where he underwent surgery to repair the torn Achilles tendon in his ankle. While the surgery has been deemed a success, it is still pretty certain that his World Cup dreams are finished for good:

David Beckham underwent an operation today on his torn Achilles tendon and despite it being declared a success, his World Cup dream appears to be over. The England star travelled to Finland on a private jet for surgery after tearing the tendon during AC Milan’s Serie A encounter with Chievo. The injury will almost certainly ensure he misses the World Cup in South Africa, which would have been Beckham’s fourth as an England international, but he might not even be walking by the time it starts. Renowned doctor Professor Helmu Orawa, today said the procedure had been a success and he was confident the 34-year-old would be able to continue his career. However, in a statement, England manager Fabio Capello, who confirmed he had spoken to Beckham after last night’s game to offer his support, said the indications were that he would miss the World Cup, which starts in June. He said: ‘We have to wait for the results of the scan, but it looks like he is out of the World Cup. David is a great professional and has worked very hard to be ready for the World Cup, so missing it will be a big blow.’ He added: ‘I am very sad for David that he has suffered this injury.’ Writing on his official website today, Beckham said: ‘I am on my way to Finland to see a specialist and have a scan on the injury. I am upset but wants (sic) to thank everyone for their messages of support. I hope to make a swift and full recovery.’ Professor Orawa said he is positive Beckham will make a full recovery from his injuries, but said it is unlikely he would be well in time for the World Cup. He said: ‘Top athletes usually heal well but it’s a few months until you are back at the same level as you were before. I don’t think it is a big difference to be (aged) 25 or 35, it will be three, four, five months. Most of these patients come back at the same level, even in a top player.’ Doctors at the specialist Mehiläinen Turku clinic stitched Beckham’s ruptured tendon in an hour-long operation this afternoon, before fitting him with a cast or brace. Beckham is expected to return to Los Angeles for the healing and rehabilitation process.

While it is pretty certain that Becks will not be able to play in the World Cup, I’m happy to know that he may yet recovery well from his injury. It sucks hardcore that fate dealt him this painful blow … but at least he has a great chance of playing soccer again in the future. It’ll be nice to have Becks back here in SoCal during his recovery period … it’s just a shame he has to come home under these circumstances :(

Despite rumors to the contrary, Edward Norton has dashed hopes this weekend at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, TX by insisting that a sequel to his 2008 film The Incredible Hulk will likely NOT be made. While Norton didn’t flat out and say it would never be made, he did say that there are no plans to make a sequel and even if so … it would not come for a very long time:

Since “The Incredible Hulk” was released in 2008, there have been talks about the sequel. In contrary to reports which sound certain that “Hulk 2″ is going to be made, Edward Norton says to Cinematical at the 2010 SXSW during the weekend that the upcoming movie would never come out. “I don’t think so,” he answered when asked whether or not “Hulk” sequel is happening. “I think they’ve got a whole lot of stuff to spool out before they get on into [a 'Hulk' sequel],” he further explains to MTV. Not only he will not return for another “Hulk” movie, Edward also says he has no cameo appearances in “Iron Man 2″, “Thor” and “The First Avenger: Captain America”. Though so, he does not rule out possibility of seeing him playing Hulk again as Norton says, “We’ll see what they want to do. I figure it’s a ways down the road.” The actor additionally hints that his character may appear in another Marvel’s film “The Avengers”, stating “I think at some point they’re going to figure out how they want to get around to ‘Avengers’.” Back in late 2008, Tim Blake Nelson as well as Tim Roth claimed they have signed on to do two “Hulk” sequels. “I’m signed on to do ‘Hulk 2′ and ’3′ whether Edward’s there or not,” the depicter of Samuel Sterns revealed. Though so, there have been no official words on a sequel to “The Incredible Hulk”.

This is bummer news for me … I loved The Incredible Hulk. Norton‘s Hulk film was far superior to the crappy film that Ang Lee made previously. I would LOVE to see a sequel film starring Edward Norton for another run as the big green man. Alas … it doesn’t sound like it’s meant to be. Any Hulk fans out there? Are you as bummed as I am that there may be no part deux?

Seven years ago, Jay-Z promised that he would help bring the New Jersey Nets basketball team back to NY and late last week, he finally got around to start making good on that promise. Jay was joined by his wife Beyoncé and a few dignitaries at a ground-breaking ceremony in Brooklyn, NY on the site of the future home of the New Jersey Nets. Here are a few photos and some deets from the event:

It’s been seven years since Jay-Z announced he was bringing the New Jersey Nets back home to New York during his 2003 “Fade To Black Concert” at Madison Square Garden. On Thursday (March 11), Nets co-owner Hov, an assortment of New York politicians and executives from the Nets came to Brooklyn for a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the team’s future home, the Barclays Center. The Brooklyn Steppers Marching Band led the way into the press conference, which took place at Brooklyn’s Atlantic Yards. Jay walked in with Beyoncé, standing out in a crowd that included the Reverend Al Sharpton, New York Governor David Paterson and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg … During the conference, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz also hinted he wanted Jay-Z to convince LeBron James to play for the Nets when he goes into free agency this summer. The Jiggaman innocently shook his head no as if he didn’t know what he was talking about and put his hands up. Sharpton said he came to the press conference for one reason only: “Jay-Z promised me if I came I would have the opportunity to sit next to Beyoncé,” he joked. “And you see where they are sitting me,” he continued, noting that B was sitting in the crowd, not with the people such as himself who were speaking. Sharpton, also a Brooklyn native, noted that the first black major league baseball player, Jackie Robinson, took the field in Brooklyn, and now the borough’s team has a black co-owner. “We’ve gone from Jackie to Jay-Z,” Sharpton said. “Where we cannot only play the game but own the game.” Finally, Hov himself came to the podium. “What I stand here and represent is hope for Brooklyn, New York City. I’m a son of Brooklyn, I’m from Marcy projects.” Jay said. “I think about growing up in Brooklyn in the Marcy projects and shooting jump shots, thinking I can make it to the NBA. Now I stand here as an owner of team that’s coming back to Brooklyn. The pride in that, and bringing that dream so much closer for people, brings me so much pride I get a little nervous about it. But I’m very happy, very excited about this day. And we did it again Brooklyn — shout out to [Notorious] B.I.G.” After the conference, Jay-Z and company officially broke ground, breaking out the hard hats and lightly shoveling dirt. The confetti rained down. “It was a long process,” Jay said after the ceremony, with his “Empire State of Mind” playing in the background. “It’s a sensitive one. I’m from the people. I’m for the people. I could never be opposed to the side of the people. But this project, when you look at the numbers at the end of the day, was so overwhelmingly in favor of the people: the job creation, the housing that’s being built. It was difficult; you had to tread through that process lightly. But we’re here, it’s a fantastic day and it’s a celebration. It’s a beautiful day in Brooklyn and the hope that’s represented — on a small scale — is the same I felt when I saw Obama run for president: That we can be a part of something so grand.”

First Beyoncé puts her name on a cosmetology school to help troubled youth turn their lives around and now Jay-Z is lending a hand to get the NJ Nets back to NY. It really looks as if B-Jay are becoming quite the entrepreneurial philanthropists. I wonder where else these two will pop up … and under what circumstances. Gisele Bündchen, supermodel extraordinaire and new mom, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Vogue magazine … who posed for the mag just 6 weeks after giving birth. As you may recall, Gisele and hubby Tom Brady welcomed the birth of their first child together — a boy named Benjamin Rein — in early December. It wasn’t until early February that we got our first look at little Benjamin Rein. Today we get another peek at Gisele‘s baby boy in the pages of Vogue, as well as a sneak peek at her coverstory interview. On keeping out of the public eye: “I felt like my pregnancy was a sacred moment for me. I stayed in Boston and I didn’t work apart from the contracts I have, and then I only let them use my face.”

On her first time behind the camera since her son was born: “I got to the studio and I felt like I was E.T.—whoa, what’s going on? Hair and makeup? I hadn’t looked at myself in a mirror for a month and a half… Usually, as I walk through the door into that atmosphere, I already feel different. There’s a button that goes On and I’m On. And when I go On, there is almost no me; there is just a character who is doing all this. This time it wasn’t like that… For the first time, I think I actually saw me—the inside—instead of the persona.”

Dolly Parton, Country music icon and all around down home DIVA, made an in-person appearance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of her very own store called Trinkets & Treasures which opened for business in Nashville, TN late last week. Here are a few photos of Dolly doing her thang at the official store opening last Friday:

Country music legend Dolly Parton was on hand Friday to celebrate the opening of her first Nashville store. The official ribbon cutting was held at Noon Friday outside Trinkets & Treasures, located on Second Avenue. The store sells all things Dolly, from magnets, mugs and t-shirts to jewelry, musical instruments and novelty items. “We have some fun junk and really nice wonderful pieces,” Parton explained. “I approved most of the stuff that comes through here and I’m going to get a discount on it too.” After the official business, Dolly took time to meet some of the hundreds of fans who attended the grand opening celebration. The store, located on 126 Second Avenue North, is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Sunday through Friday and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

OMG … LOVE the shirt and I LOVE Dolly Parton!! I can only imagine what wonderfully tacky items are available for sale at this new shop! I’m a huge fan of “fun junk” (much to David’s chagrin, believe me) and this new store sounds really cool! It’s a shame I don’t have any trips to Nashville in my foreseeable future but I hope to get there someday … what I wouldn’t give for a Dolly Parton-approved trinket to treasure ;)

I sincerely hope that Mr. Ballas here isn’t spending all of this time playing with Shannen‘s dog … he had to ensure that Shannen WINS! It’s a cute pic tho … am I right?

On Saturday we learned the sad yet not all that surprising news that Jennifer Love Hewitt and her Ghost Whisperer co-star Jamie Kennedy ended their year long romantic relationship … and today we get to see photos of a very happy-lookin’ Jennifer Love Hewitt out and about on the streets of SoCal yesterday lookin’ like she didn’t have a care in the world. I don’t know about you but she does not look like a woman mourning the loss of a loving relationship in these photos:

You will note that she is carrying a bag of take-out from Koo Koo Roo so mebbe that’s why she looks so sunny and happy. Nothing equals happiness like a bag of fried chicken but still … you’d think she might be a bit bummed that her relationship with Jamie is dunzo. Ah well … life goes on, I suppose. I can’t wait to see who J. Love hooks up with next … any guesses?
