Robert Pattinson Back On The Set Of His New Movie

Last month we saw the first photos of Robert Pattinson on the set of his new film Bel Ami where he plays a dapper-looking gentleman named Monsieur Georges Duroy and today we get to see a couple more photos of R. Pattz in costume on set:

Yeah, he’s still rockin’ those period clothes but this time he’s got a matching hat! I’m not sure that this film will necessarily appeal to the Twilight set in terms of content but anything with Pattinson in it will surely attract a certain segment of the Twilight fan-base contingent. I’m afraid this period piece will not successfully get me to check it out (I hate period piece films) but it might turn out to be a good film … don’t you think?

IT’S A TRAP!

Last night was another quiet night but this morning has already been a bizzy one. I successfully managed to get tix to see Hole (ie. Courtney Love and her new bandmates) play a show here in Hollywood, CA in April and then I ventured out to the adidas Store on Melrose Ave. to buy a couple pairs of shoes from the adidas Originals Star Wars Collection … namely the Nizza Hi T.I.E. Fighter shoes and the Forum Mid – AT-AT shoes:

You may recall that adidas Originals announced a new line of shoes based on the Star Wars franchise and I previously managed to procure a pair of the Darth Vader shoes, the Luke Skywalker shoes and the Storm Trooper high top shoes. These 2 new pair are the only other shoes from this collection that I had to have. Unfortunately, the shoes in my size sold out right in front of me at the adidas Store this morning ;( I did managed to find them on eBay for a bit more than retail price but, meh, I’m happy to have the shoes at all.

In a couple of hours, I’m meeting up with Darion and his parents for brunch before we all convene again in WeHo for a celebratory night on the town. It’s cold and rainy here in LA today … not sure how much outside I’ll be enjoying … but a weekend is a weekend ;)

The 'Hurt Locker' star is about to BLOW UP!
Jeremy Renner Is Ready For Oscar Glory

While The Hurt Locker film and lead actor Jeremy Renner were completely shut out of the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards last night, there are very good chances that neither the film nor Renner will be shut out at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards tomorrow night. The Hurt Locker is seen by many (including me) as the front-runner for Best Picture, director Kathryn Bigelow has a serious shot at becoming the first female to win Best Director and Jeremy Renner himself has a great shot at winning Best Actor. Whether or not Renner wins an Oscar tomorrow is irrelevant in the long run because the actor is sure to blow up in a big way in Hollywood as a result of his nomination … but a boy can dream, can’t he?

Jeremy Renner seems surprisingly calm, considering he’s going through a breakup with his girlfriend, moving into a new house he renovated and preparing to attend the Oscars as a best-actor nominee. “I feel like my life was busier before all of this happened,” says Renner, looking relaxed on a recent sunny afternoon in a Led Zeppelin T-shirt and a pair of jeans at a cafe overlooking the Sunset Strip. “I was trying so hard to get awareness for the film. Once that happened, it’s been like a breath of fresh air. I’m just coming down off that high.” After some 15 years in show business, Renner, 39, captured the attention of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with his performance as a risk-taking bomb disposal technician in “The Hurt Locker,” the tense Iraq war drama directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who is also nominated for an Oscar. The film has already won awards from the Producers Guild of America, National Society of Film Critics, Directors Guild of America and British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Renner and Bigelow have been making the rounds on awards shows, spending more time together than they did most days on the set of “The Hurt Locker” in Jordan. “I rarely saw her throughout the day,” Renner says. “The sets were so big, and the cameras were so far away. I would maybe see her once in the daytime. There were days we would see the cameras more if we got into close quarters, but it was so hot and so intense that you just didn’t realize you were shooting a movie half the time.” Renner’s list of credits include “Dahmer” and “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.” He’ll be seen alongside Ben Affleck in the upcoming crime drama “The Town.” His most unsavory role was his first major part: He played a stoner in the comedy “National Lampoon’s Senior Trip.” “I was just proud to be in a film that would play in movie theaters in Modesto,” he says of his California hometown. His schedule is filled with meetings about potential projects, but he’s also developing his own material. “I personally don’t feel any pressure, but people keep asking, `What are you going to do next?’” Renner says. “I don’t know. I’ll find out when it happens. I just want to take this time and savor it before moving on to the next thing.”

I can’t say I’ve been a huge Jeremy Renner fan for long but I deffo loved him in Hurt Locker and I’m pullin’ for him to win (tho, the odds on favorite is Jeff Bridges to win for his work in Crazy Heart). This article doesn’t mention it but Renner was also in 28 Weeks Later, which is the first movie I remember seeing him in. But, as I said, it doesn’t matter if he wins or loses on Sunday (tho winning is better) because his future in Hollywood looks bright!! We are just over 24 hours away from the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. There are bound to be LOTS of smiling faces on the red carpet tomorrow … but in the meantime, you can click HERE to look back on some of the sparkling smiles from the red carpet last year ;)

SJP, this is your life!
‘Who Do You Think You Are’, Sarah Jessica Parker?

Last night NBC debuted a new series called Who Do You Think You Are? (which is based on a UK series of the same name) which follows select celebs on a quest to find out where they come from as they piece together missing parts of their family tree. The premiere episode featured Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker and I was intrigued by the promo that showed that she may have had ancestors that were part of the Salem Witch Trials, arguably one of the darkest times in US history. Here are a few screencaps from last night’s ep and some deets about what SJP found out on her quest to learn her family’s history:

Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker is stunned to discover that one of her relatives was accused of witchcraft during the Salem trials and narrowly avoided being burnt at the stake as she traces her family roots. The actress learns the shocking secret as she appears on the American version of the popular British series Who Do You Think You Are. Parker becomes emotional as she is informed that her 10th great-grandmother Esther Ellwell was one of the innocent victims accused in the 1692 trials. And the star cannot hide her relief when she learns that Ellwell was saved after the witchcraft trial court disbanded just weeks before her hearing. During the programme, which was screened in the US last night, she also discovers that a relative on her mother’s side participated in the California Gold Rush of 1849. The 44-year-old who coincidentally plays a witch in the 1993 movie Hocus Pocus, later admits that she has been deeply changed by the discoveries. Parker herself had led an unconventional life, grew up in Nelsonville, an Ohio mining town, one of eight children. A successful child actress, Parker appeared in several TV shows and films but it was with the international phenomenon of Sex and the City in 1998 that she became an overnight icon. She has been married to Broadway star Matthew Broderick for 12 year and the couple have three children together, seven-year-old son James Wilkie and eight month old twins Tabitha and Marion – who were born via a surrogate.

I LOVE this show!! I was initially drawn to watch because I love SJP and because in grad school, I taught a class on the Witch Trials in Europe and the US (modeled on the book Witchcraze by Anne Llewellyn Barstow) so it is a topic I am *very* interested in. To clarify, had SJP‘s ancestor been executed here in the US as a “witch”, she would’ve most likely been hanged not burned at the stake … but I digress. You may recall that SJP gave her twin daughters very interesting names when they were born last Summer — and now we know why … Marion Loretta Elwell was named for SJP‘s ancestor who was accused of witchcraft and Tabitha Hodge was named for her ancestor who was a gold miner during the California Gold Rush. After the jump, check out a clip from last night’s ep and find out where you can watch the whole episode online in case you missed seeing it last night …

The PaleyFest 2010 Presents ‘Cougar Town’

Yesterday we saw a few photos from the PaleyFest panel discussion featuring the cast of Dexter, which was hosted by the Paley Center for Media here in LA, and today we get to see a few photos from last night’s PaleyFest discussion featuring the cast of Cougar Town. Like the Dexter panel, last night’s Cougar Town event was held at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, CA and featured members of the principal cast on stage … live and in person:

As you can see, all of our Cougar faves here in the hiz last night … including Ms. Thang Courteney Cox-Arquette. I believe only Busy Philips was the only main player not in attendance at last night’s event. I’ve yet to find info about what was discussed during last night’s panel discussion but with a new show like this, I doubt anything of any seriousness was revealed. Because Dexter has a history and because of the way the last season ended, there was a lot of opportunity for spoilery info to be revealed. With Cougar Town, I’m guessing the talk was mainly about storylines may get wrapped up by season’s end and what the show hopes to accomplish in season’s to come. Still, it would’ve been very cool to see these stars in person. Cougar Town is one of my fave shows right now … I’m happy to see that it is doing so well.

Beyoncé Opens Her Own Cosmetology Center

Superstar Beyoncé and her mother Tina Knowles were on hand at a ribbon cutting ceremony in Brooklyn, NY yesterday to officially open the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center which will operate at The Phoenix House — a residential substance abuse treatment center to help troubled young people turn their lives around. Here is a photo of the newly opened center and some deets about the ceremony yesterday:

The president of Brooklyn has declared Beyonce an official Brooklynite. Borough President Marty Markowitz said Beyonce is a Brooklynite by marriage and by moxie. Beyonce’s husband, Jay-Z, is from Brooklyn. The superstar visited the New York City borough Friday for the opening of the Beyonce Cosmetology Center at a residential substance abuse treatment center. The Phoenix House offers programs for residents in carpentry, building maintenance, computer technology and culinary arts. Beyonce said she thought it also should have more programs geared toward women. She said her mother’s Houston salon helped so many people feel good about themselves and better their lives. Beyonce first spent time at Phoenix House when preparing for the role of Etta James in the 2008 film, Cadillac Records.

While I certain the haters will have something snarky to say about Beyoncé opening up a beauty school but I think it’s really fantastic that she would want to be a part of such an important place for troubled people. Beyoncé is a role model to so many people … here, she can also be an inspiration for rehabilitated folks to turn their lives around. After the jump, check out a few photos of B, mama T and others at the ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Phoenix House yesterday …

'Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire' wins BIG!
The 2010 Film Independent’s Spirit Awards Are Handed Out

Last night, at the Nokia Theater at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles, CA, the 25th annual Film Independent’s Spirit Awards were handed out in a fairly lavish ceremony just days before the Academy Awards are handed out in Hollywood. Known as the Indie Oscars, the Spirit Awards annually honor the independent films and filmmakers made in the year prior. This year, the indie film Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire was the big winner, taking home 5 awards — including Best Female Lead, Best Supporting Female, Best Director and Best Feature!!! Now, I should point out that The Hurt Locker was not in contention for Spirit Awards this year due to a glitch in the awards show rules. It was nominated last year, months before the film was ever released … which meant, naturally, that it has no chance of winning because none of the voters had even heard of the film. But, Hurt Locker‘s loss was deffo Precious‘s gain. Here are some photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets about what went down at the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards last night:

The harrowing drama “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” was the big winner Friday evening at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which was held in a tent on L.A. Live’s event deck in downtown Los Angeles. The film about a pregnant African American teenager and her abusive mother won best feature, best director for Lee Daniels, best first screenplay for Geoffrey Fletcher, best female lead for Gabourey Sidibe and best supporting female for Mo’Nique. Daniels basked in his win away from his fellow Oscar nominees. “Kathryn Bigelow’s not here tonight,” he said. “I am.” “Precious” is nominated for Academy Awards in many of the same categories, with Mo’Nique considered the odds-on favorite to receive best supporting actress Sunday evening at the Kodak Theatre. Mo’Nique’s acceptance speech wasn’t as emotional as some of her other winning speeches this awards season, but she did take a special moment to acknowledge her co-star Sidibe, telling her, “You are a special gift to the universe, baby.” Presenter Ben Stiller, noting the ceremony’s late hour and the independent nature of the assembled crowd, brought half-naked porn stars onstage to writhe in sexual positions while he read the nominees for best film. On Friday, best male lead went to Oscar nominee Jeff Bridges for his moving performance as a dissolute country singer in “Crazy Heart.” The role has won Bridges numerous awards this season, including honors from the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild. Bridges gave a rambling speech in which he thanked many people and told the crowd, ” ‘Crazy Heart’ is a gem of an independent film.” “Crazy Heart,” directed by Scott Cooper, also won the Spirit prize for best first feature. Robert Duvall, who came to the stage with Cooper, told the crowd that the latter hadn’t directed so much as a high school play before this film. “But,” Duvall added, “he does a great job.” Woody Harrelson, also an Oscar contender, won for supporting male for “The Messenger.” Screenplay honors went to Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber for “(500) Days of Summer.” Roger Deakins received the cinematography award for “A Serious Man.” “An Education” won best foreign film, and “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” took documentary honors … The third annual Robert Altman Award, which is given to a film’s director, casting director and ensemble cast, went to Joel and Ethan Coen’s “A Serious Man” … The Spirit Awards, which honor independent and original filmmaking, have traditionally been held on the Saturday afternoon before the Oscars in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica. But the show moved to Friday evening at L.A. Live this year in celebration of the awards’ 25th anniversary.

Many, many congrats goes out to Precious … while I’m certain that Mo’Nique will represent the film at the Academy Awards tomorrow night, it’s clear that last night’s Spirit Awards was the film’s biggest night to shine. It’s a shame that The Hurt Locker got shut out due to a set of janky rules (which will, very likely, be amended for next year’s show) but I’m very happy to see Precious enjoy it’s time in the sun. After the jump, check out some photos from the press room and from backstage at the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards last night …
