Kissy-Face
Shia LaBeouf & Carey Mulligan Take Their Lurve To The Streets Of NYC

Shia LaBeouf and Academy Award-nominated ladylove Carey Mulligan were not shy-a about their lurve in NYC this week as these new photos of the pair openly canoodling in chilly Manhattan this week clearly show. As you may recall, Shia and Carey met in NYC last Fall while filming the upcoming sequel film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and it would seem that their initial flirtation has turned into quite the love affair … behold:

After spending the last few weeks on the awards circuit, Bafta winner Carey Mulligan has finally been reunited with her boyfriend Shia LaBeouf. Clearly thrilled to be back in each other’s company, the young couple couldn’t keep their hands or lips off each other as they cosied up over a coffee. The couple are currently enjoyed a few precious days together before Mulligan flies to Los Angeles for this weekend’s Oscars, where she is up for Best Actress. It is unknown whether LaBeouf will be her escort on the red carpet as the couple are yet to make a public appearance together. After being away from the snow for so long, it appears the An Education actress wasn’t quite prepared for the New York weather. As the couple happened upon a big pile of snow as they crossed the road yesterday afternoon, gallant LaBeouf realised Mulligan’s ballet pumps weren’t suitable for walking through snow. So her gentlemanly boyfriend lifted her over the freezing slush so she didn’t get her feet wet. Mulligan, 24, appeared to find his attentive behaviour humorous as she giggled in his arms, but rewarded him with a tender kiss. Mulligan and LaBeouf, 23, started dating last August after they were cast in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, the long-awaited follow-up to 1987 classic Wall Street. Their co-star Michael Douglas said he warned them against romances with their co-star, but the chemistry between them was just too strong. He said: ‘I warned them, “Don’t ever do that”, but they are an item and they are having a great time.’

OMG … they are so cute together … granted, a cuteness that borders on disgusting … but cute nonetheless. It’s such a cliché when actors get together romantically while working on a film but, meh, they’re young … they’ve got plenty of time to figure things out. It’s kinda strange to see Shia lookin’ so affection … and in public, no less. He is usually no fan of the PDA … clearly, he is enraptured by Miss Mulligan. I find it very hard to believe that he will not accompany Carey to the Oscars this weekend. A boy this in love would not miss his girl’s special night for anything. Gak! These two are too cute … I’m gonna go heave now ;)

Is nothing sacred in Hollywood, anymore?
Does The World Really Need A ‘Gillligan’s Island’ Movie?

Hollywood has delved back into sacred collection of classic television programs in order to find a story to make into a major motion picture. Much like tv-shows-to-films like Charlie’s Angels, The Brady Bunch, Mission: Impossible, Get Smart, Starsky & Hutch and most recently The A-Team (and on and on and on), plans are are now in the works to adapt the classic TV series Gilligan’s Island for the big screen:

The seven castaways of “Gilligan’s Island” have found a home at Warner Bros. and Atlas Entertainment. The studio and production company have begun development on a feature film based on the iconic CBS sitcom, which generated solid ratings during its three seasons between 1964 and 1967 and then found something close to eternal life in syndication. Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are onboard to produce for Atlas, with Brad Copeland penning the screenplay. Original show producer Sherwood Schwartz is aboard to exec produce along with son Lloyd Schwartz. Plans are for a contempo take on the well-known premise and characters, with the studio and the Schwartzes’ blessing Copeland’s initial idea for the screenplay. Roven told Daily Variety that he’s hoping to start production as early as next year but won’t move forward on seeking a director or cast until Copeland’s script is completed. “The characters are so good,” Roven added. “We think it’s going to be a great story to transport these cultural icons to the modern day.” The 98 episodes of “Gilligan’s Island,” starring Bob Denver as the hapless title character, centered on the wacky misadventures of seven castaways — two crew members, a millionaire couple, a professor, a movie star and a girl-next-door type — on an uncharted and uninhabited island in the Pacific. Sherwood Schwartz composed “The Ballad of Gilligan’s Isle,” which ran at the top of each segment, as a way for viewers to understand the premise. Co-stars were Alan Hale Jr., Tina Louise, Dawn Wells, Jim Backus, Russell Johnson and Natalie Schafer. Final episode aired on April 17, 1967, with the castaways still stranded as the skein wasn’t renewed for a fourth season. Jon Berg is overseeing the project for the studio. No casting’s been set although Sherwood Schwartz said in an interview last year that he was interested in Michael Cera playing the lead role.

NOOO! Ugh … I hate this … I hate how every single TV show that ever existed will eventually be turned into a terrible movie, thereby destroying the belovedness of the original TV series. Do we not recall that horribly STUPID competitive reality TV series The Real Gilligan’s Island that assaulted our senses (and insulted our intelligence) a few years ago? Gilligan’s Island made a terrible reality TV show and it will, most likely, make a terrible movie. I suppose it’s to be expected … Hollywood already ruined classic 60′s TV shows like Bewitched, The Beverly Hillbillys, Lost in Space, etc. so I guess it’s Gilligan‘s time for ruination. How long until they decide to ruin I Dream of Jeanie and the rest of our beloved classic TV shows? Blah.

More Photos From Lindsay Lohan’s ‘Purple Fashion’ Magazine Photoshoot

Last month we learned that Lindsay Lohan, doing her best Jesus Christ, was featured on the cover of the new issue of Purple Fashion magazine and today, almost a month later, we finally get to see some photos from the mag’s photospread. I’m certain y’all have been waiting on pins and needles, yes? While the photos aren’t anything very revolutionary, they are pretty sexy … er, and somewhat sacrilegious?

Granted, Lindsay seems happy to bare a breast or buttock whenever asked but I don’t hate these photos. Okay, I hate the ever-present cigarette but these aren’t the worst photos ever. The girl is just so erratic … it’s like she doesn’t know what she wants to be. I hope she figures it out soon, for her sake. It’s not like she can make a career out of throwing liquid products at the paparazzi (despite what she may think). Forgetting that this is Lindsay Lohan (and everything that that entails), what do you think of these pics?

Progress
Same-Sex Couples Apply To Marry In Washington DC

In December, by a vote of 11-2, the Washington DC city council (which is the ruling body of our nation’s capital) determined that same-sex marriage will be legal in the District of Columbia and would go into effect in March of 2010. Just last week, in preparation for DC’s legalization of same-sex marriage, the State of Maryland determined that it would recognize the rights and privileges of same-sex couples who are legally married in the US as they would any legally married heterosexual couple. In a last ditch effort to halt the progress of marriage equality in DC, opponents petitioned the Supreme Court to intercede and stop today’s legalization of same-sex marriage … but the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, rejected the request from opponents to stop the law from going into effect:

Chief Justice John Roberts of the Supreme Court rejected on Tuesday a request from opponents of gay marriage to put on hold a new law that allows same-sex couples to wed in Washington, D.C. Roberts acted right before the law takes effect on Wednesday. In December, the city council adopted a measure which adds the nation’s capital to the five states that already allow same-sex marriage. Opponents of gay marriage argued there should be a public referendum on the law, which expands the definition of marriage to include same-sex couples, before it takes effect. Roberts refused to put the law on hold and said the local Board of Elections, the city’s superior court and its court of appeals all had rejected the request for a referendum. Roberts said the Supreme Court’s practice has been to defer to local court decisions on District of Columbia matters of exclusive local concern. Roberts also said the U.S. Congress has allowed the law to go into effect.

And with that last failed bid to hinder the law from going into effect, same-sex couples are now able TODAY to apply for marriage licenses in the capital of the United States of America:

Same-sex couples can start applying for marriage licenses Wednesday in Washington. Supporters say couples planned to line up before the city’s marriage bureau opened at 8:30 a.m., and some officials were expecting 200 or more people. Washington will be the sixth place in the nation where gay marriages can take place. Because of a mandatory waiting period, however, couples won’t actually be able to marry in the District of Columbia until March 9. Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont currently issue licenses to same-sex couples. The city’s Moultrie courthouse, which houses the marriage bureau, is just blocks from the U.S. Capitol. To deal with the crowd expected Wednesday, the marriage bureau will bring in temporary employees to help its regular staff, courthouse spokeswoman Leah Gurowitz said. “Everybody who wants a marriage license is going to get one. It may take a little longer, but they will get their license,” Gurowitz said. To prepare for Wednesday, the marriage bureau has changed its license applications so they are gender-neutral, asking for the name of each “spouse” rather than the “bride” and “groom.” And at civil marriage ceremonies to be performed in the courthouse, a booklet for the official performing the marriage now reads, “I now pronounce you legally married” instead of “I now pronounce you man and wife.” A marriage license application costs $35, and the marriage license $10. Couples who are already registered as domestic partners in the city can convert their registration into a marriage license by paying the $10 fee. Supporters expected the day to be festive. A District of Columbia councilman who introduced the gay marriage bill planned to hand out boxes of vanilla and chocolate cupcakes to the first 200 couples in line. Terrance Heath, 41, planned to be at the courthouse with his partner, Rick Imirowicz, 43. The two have been together for 10 years and have a 7-year-old and a 2-year-old, but Heath said Wednesday feels like “a step forward.” “My husband has always been my husband to me, but having that legal recognition, that legal protection, makes it easier to deal with any number of situations,” said Heath, a writer and blogger. “If you tell people you’re married, you don’t really have to explain much beyond that.” The two, who live in Maryland, plan to marry on March 9, the first day possible.

This is a happy, very important day for the US. While same-sex couples cannot actually marry in Washington DC until March 9, they are able to apply for their marriage licenses starting today in preparation for those weddings that can legally take place starting next Tuesday! I’m still boggled that Washington DC, the capital of the United States of America, has legalized same-sex marriage and, yet, the majority of the country still outlaws the practice. Still, this is an important move forward. I am convinced I will see marriage equality come to the whole US in my lifetime … but I will fondly remember the brave first 6 places in the US — namely Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire and the District of Columbia — that forged the way for true liberty and justice for all in this country! Yay!!
