Whitney Houston Hastily Departs From Sydney, Australia
Gettin' out of Dodge

After getting quite a bit of bad press while touring Australia this week, Whitney Houston dismissed her critics and soldiered on with her Nothing But Love World Tour and played her shows in Sydney. But, almost as soon as she was finished in Sydney, she packed her shizz and got to the airport as quickly as possible so that she could fly out on her way to Melbourne. I suppose she was trying to avoid the angry Sydney folks who were thinkin’ about chasing her out of town with torches and pitchforks:

It would appear that her eagerly-awaited return to music has proved to be all too much for Whitney Houston. After a week in which the singer was slated for her disappointing comeback concerts in Australia, she flew out of Sydney this morning looking more than a little worse for wear. She stopped to pose for pictures with fans, who posted the snaps on Twitter this morning, but she looked distracted, her smile seeming fake as she hid behind brown sunglasses. The 46-year-old singer is currently on tour in in the country playing a number of dates in various cities for the first time in 22 years. But her great comeback proved to be a huge flop for her Aussie fans, who have been left disgruntled with her performances after spending hundreds of dollars on tickets. There have been reports of complaints, fans walking out and hundreds demanding refunds on their tickets, some of whom had paid up to AUS$699 (£410) to see the legendary diva in action … Last night she played the Hope Estate Winery in Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley near Sydney to a 12,000-strong crowd and today she jetted off to Melbourne … She wraps up her Australian tour in Perth on March 7 and heads to France and Britain in April.

Yes … it looks like this sort of criticism, whether fair or not, will dog her for the duration of her tour. Even if she were to perform perfectly stellar shows from here on out, her critics will still do their best to drag her down. While I’m sure it is very difficult for her to hear these nasty reports (again, whether fair or not), I do commend her for pressing ahead, undaunted. In the end, Whitney Houston does have a lot to prove. There is no way she will ever be able to please everyone, no way at all. She needs to stay focused on what she can accomplish, perform to the best of her ability and strive to be even better each night of her tour. That’s all she really can do … and I’m thinkin’ she knows that. Keep on keepin’ on, Whitney!! I can’t wait to see you here in the US :D

arg. i dunno why, but i have a sneakin’ suspicion that our ol’ whitney isn’t doing as well as we’d like, but i hope i’m wrong… and i REALLY hope that isn’t her wedding ring she’s got on. :/

Whitney is doing fine. She is a praying woman and a person of faith. she’s gained weight & tanned, that’s great! Why are the paps stalking her, she can’t go anywhere and all the pics of her at her concert she looks glamorous and great but they catch her at the airport in regular clothes and it’s an issue.

Even if whit sounded like the BG, they would find a reason to hate on her. she has her daughter wither her, her brother and her family. I commend her for not cancelling and showing up on time to perform. all the dates are near sell outs- if people don’t like how she sound, dont buy the damn tickets or turn them in before the show.

Last night, 12, 000 people came to see her- they should all know who she sounds right now so the tabloids need to stop.

Why the heck are these writers searching fans twiiter account for dirt on whitney and how do they know her smile was fake or she was distracted?

Whitney has been incredibly nice to her fans on this tour, she’s pulled them up on stage with her, signed autographs, posed for pics, etc if she didn’t, they would call her a bi t c h so she’s in a no win situation.

This is our Icon, people need to respect her

Why are people ignoring the fact the woman simply cannot sing now?! If I was gonna shell out $600 I’d want to be damn sure that I was getting my money’s worth. And having seen those clips on YouTube, I’m not surprised people are demanding refunds. When it started off a few weeks ago in Korea, they were saying, “Oh she’s ill, she has a sore throat, that’s why she can’t hit some of the notes.” What about now?

And CLEARLY — CLEARLY — on I Will Always Love You, it is NOT Whitney who manages to reach those high notes. Or has she somehow found a way to multiply her voice so that she remains singing one note while then starting another? No.

Get your heads out of the sand, folks. It doesn’t matter how nice she’s being to fans by getting them up on stage or signing autographs. The fact of the matter is, she should NOT be accepting money for a second-rate performance. If you have been promised a concert by someone who once was one of the top female singers of her generation, why would you NOT buy a ticket? And how are you supposed to demand your money back before she’s even sung a note? Get real. The woman shouldn’t have even contemplated a tour before she knew her voice was fit enough…

Oh but wait, isn’t that really what she’s done in the US? No voice, no tour. She’ll drag herself around the world but is too embarrassed to do it at home.

Her Aussie tour promoter is blaming her lack of singing voice on the cigarettes she apparently refuses to quit. Don’t know if this is true, but we all know how bad the damned things are, so they’d certainly have a lot to do with it. Truly- true fans will still love her anyway, those that used to like her will be disappointed and the rest won’t care about the Shitney show (as some have dubbed it.)
On a brighter note, George Michael performed at the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney the other night and by all accounts was fantastic.

  6. CHASE says:

I’m sorry but anyone who sees this expecting Whitney to bust out those notes is clearly delusional. Sure, she may be exercising her voice and it may sound better but she will never, ever sound like she used to. If you’re willing to spend the money to see her in concert expecting such things and then complain you’re pretty much socially incompetent. Everyone knows her shaky behavior and how her voice isn’t the same and all the hardcore Whitney fans won’t care about it because they love Whitney regardless or just want to see her perform which is fine. But don’t complain expecting her to be in her prime because she isn’t. Srsly.

  7. mikey says:

I am surprised she didnt cancel the rest of her australian tour to be honest..So I must say that it is good seeing her continue..but she really needs to step up her a game. yeah i know she cant sing as good as she once could and people will see her regardless, but when she struggles to get through a couple of songs..she needs to sort that sh*t out, or tour when she is ready..

  8. jas says:

i hate all the critics! they did it to britney as well.. its so embarassing for aussies. it makes us looks so bad and so mean!

  9. Bee says:

@ jas, I was just gonna say, these aussies sure are critical of their concerts. Good to know not all of you folk from down under aren’t that harsh =)

  10. Anna says:

I have to agree with materialgirl. People are paying a lot of money for concert tickets, of course they expect a good show. You don’t expect someone to go on tour if her voice is not ok.

And it’s not just talk and rumours, the videos that are on the internet are pretty clear.

  11. krissy says:

I don’t think she has a lot to prove, she has a lot of money to make. She knows her voice is crap, but still charges her fans $699 a ticket? That is so classless in my opinion. She couldn’t even hit the LOW notes the other day! It’s not that she is just a little bit worse than she used to be, she is nothing like she used to be now. Such a fraud.

  12. tony c says:

All these singers ..Mariah being one that I think of , can’t hit those notes anymore BUT Mariah does compensate with background singers..she still can write great music …BUT add the chems to the entire equation and you have a catastrophe
    Cheers..
