This Charming Man-sion

The TV Guide
February 22nd, 2010

Yesterday wasn’t all bad … for the most part, it was one of the funnest days I’ve enjoyed living here in LA :) As you may have noticed, I’ve been on a bit of a Charmed kick lately. Now that I’m re-watching the entire series all over again and have been fawning over my new possession of a full-size replica Charmed spirit board, I’ve been itching to visit the real life mansion that was used in all 8 seasons as the Halliwell Manor on the show. Much like a real life home was used as Buffy Summers‘s home on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which my friends and I visited back in July of ’08), there is a real life mansion that was used as Halliwell Manor in Charmed. The Charmed House is in the Angelino Heights neighborhood of Echo Park:

I’ve been meaning to get out to see the house for a couple of weeks now but there were many delays. Yesterday was finally the day!! After the jump check out some of the fun photos I took of Halliwell Manor yesterday afternoon …

This real life mansion looks so cool in person … tho, it looks a bit smaller in person then it does on TV. Those of you who watched the show remember that hot neighbor Dan lived next door and his house was there as well. To be honest, “Dan‘s house” looks much nicer than the Halliwell house does. AND GET THIS … the house on the other side of the Halliwell Manor is FOR SALE! That house looks really run down but, man, can you imagine living next to the Charmed house? The whole block where these houses are located are protected Victorian homes so they cannot be torn down … which is great news!! Hahaha … I felt like such a nerd yesterday but it was totally worth doing.

So yeah, if you’re ever in the area and you’d like to see the Charmed house you can just Google “Charmed House Address” and find your way. Wee!!

That is awesome! I loved Charmed. That house is kind of scary looking…

  2. Kyleigh Says:

Love it! Do you know if the interior scenes were shot at the house? Probably a stage, but it still would have been cool to see inside the house!

  3. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@Kyleigh — The interior scenes were filmed on a soundstage but they were based largely on the original house’s floorplan. The sets featured bigger rooms than those in the actual house.

  4. Crystal Says:

Don’t feel like a nerd! A few years ago my friends and I found the “Wonder Years” house and it was awesome!

  5. sarah Says:

does someone actually live in the house?
i’ve added this to the list of places i want to travel, visit the house

  6. Dana Says:

Did you like Charmed w/ Shannon or w/Rose?? I like it more w/Rose….

  7. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@Dana — Not gonna lie, I loved Shannen Doherty on ‘Charmed’ and I was very sad when she left the show. But, Rose McGowan filled her place perfectly and was a welcome addition. I love all of the Halliwell sisters :)

  8. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@sarah — Yes, the home is occupied.

  9. Amanda Says:

Thats Awesome!! I would love to go see that house. I went to North Carolina to see the set of One Tree Hill and my friends and I felt like tv nerds too but it was so worth it. I want to go back with more time to look around. Keep posting the photos!

  10. Alyssa Says:

To bad the house was occupied, it would be great to see the inside. I would looooove to visit one day…maybe I’ll get out to California sooner than I think! :)

  11. Magan Says:

The set is different from the layout of the house some what. In the pilot, the inside was used, only we never saw the upstairs and the attic was from a house accross the street, because I believe ther ewas no attic. Last I heard, the house was for sale, I dont know if its been sold since then. When was the house used in Buffy?

  12. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@Magan — Buffy’s house was used all the way until the Hellmouth imploded. Buffy lived at home with her mom until college then moved back in with Dawn after mom died :( PS: The house across the street from the Halliwell house (with the attic) is insanely beautiful. All the houses on that block are stunning.

  13. Brenna Says:

OMG, HOW EXCITING! I freakin’ LOVE Charmed. People think it was a silly show about magic & teen style drama. Yes the special effects were a little lacking, it had such amazing writing & fleshing out of the characters. I have compared it to a Jane Austen novel, the way the characters were written dynamically & evolved throught the length of the narrative. Fantastic show, awesome pics! (and i liked it better w/ rose mcgowan simply because the show seemed to get so intense & deep with losing/adding a sister).

  14. River Says:

looking at the row of beautiful victorian houses on google street view makes me wanna go and see it in person. I wonder how much or if you’ get some sort of a tax cut if you buy and restore that house next to the halliwell manor.

  15. Shannon Says:

Sooo jealous!! I live in Ohio, but I will one day travel to California to see the Charmed house (along with other places!) Charmed is still my favorite TV show!

  16. Julie Miller Says:

I love Charmed! It is my secret obsession-I ended up watching all of the reruns over and over again on TNT. It was like crack-if it was on, I could not stay away. My husband kept wondering why it was on our Tivo and I just said it must be some kind of mistake. This is the first time I have ever admitted it! :)

  17. Dayna Says:

I love that show. Piper was always my favorite sister (cuz we’re both middle children) or at least she was the middle child for the majority of the time……..

Gosh I swear, if I took a tour of that house I’d be creepily looking around for Chris *Perry* Halliwell :-)
    future-boy was hot lol

  18. Francine Says:

Loved the show, especially when Rose McGowan joined the cast. Even bought some memorabilia on ebay.

  19. CousinHenry Says:

Has anyone visited the Bewitched House??? Darrin, Samantha, Tabitha & Adam all await you to drop by for a visit!

  20. Andy Says:

That’s so cool! I wish I could see the house in real life! And also, the broken down house looks like the house they used in the episode, “Size Matters”…anyone else think so?

  21. Nate Says:

Whats with the scary looking crack house next door?

  22. Ashley Says:

I have never been so jealous of you than I am right now! I LOVE Charmed. I’ve watched the series straight through twice and am planning on doing a third soon.
The Chris seasons were my favorite. I’ve probably watched those three or four times!

  23. Adrian Says:

It’s also close by to the house used in “Thriller”

  24. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

    @Adrian — OH, you’re right! It’s on the same block: http://creepyla.com/blog/2009/08/06/michael-jacksons-thriller-tour-of-los-angeles/

  25. rossy Says:

Call me old-fashioned, but the scariest house used in a movie remains for me is from “Psycho” – Oh my God!
    -
Whenever I watch Anthony Perkins looking up at the house where the silhouette of his mother is “seen” through the curtained window… I squirm in my seat. And the way the way Norman Bates yells, “Mother! Oh, God, mother! Blood! Blood!” sends shivers down my back. I make a point to watch it a couple times a year.
    -
I love Hitchcock movies… especially a gem called, “The Trouble With Harry” a great black comedy that I enjoy very much.

  26. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@rossy — We got to see the Psycho house on the backlot at Universal Studios for Hallowe’en … that shit was SCARY as hell!!

  27. Leigh Says:

Where is this located and is the buffy house occupied too? where’s the buffy house also located? thanks!

  28. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@Leigh — You can do a Google search for both homes and find the addresses. They are both in the metro LA area. Yes, the Buffy house is occupied as well.
