‘The Smurfs’ Get A CGI Upgrade
An even newer look for the little blue guys

Last September we got our FIRST LOOK at the new updated animated version of The Smurfs in a preview poster that made its way to the Internets. Today, we get an even newer look at what the new Smurfs will look like in a newly leaked animated rendering of the character design … behold:

What’s up with Belgium? Half of them speak French, the other half speak Flemish. I don’t even know what Flemish is, but I’m pretty sure you speak it through your nose. Maybe it’s that wonderful push and pull that makes creativity sparkle. The Smurfs were awesome because they were named after what they were like. Brainy, Handy, Hefty, Vanity or, you know, Ette. Talk of a Smurfs movie has been buzzing for years, but finally, now, it is upon us. Raja Gosnell, of Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Scooby-Doo fame, is currently in pre-production on a live action mixed with CG feature in New York City. (Yes, the Smurfs village is in Central Park. Awesome.) One of our spies was able to grab a shot of this adoreable CG rendered Smurf. You’ll notice it looks a lot different than the Smurf that was featured on a leaked poster some months back. It says “Smurfy” next to him – but we’re guessing that’s more of an exclamation than the little dude’s name.

HMMMMM … I’m still not totally on board with this idea to move The Smurfs into the world of CGI but at least this version of a Smurf looks cuter than the previous version we saw last year. Yeah, I’m still not sold … especially since the Smurf village now resides in Central Park? No. What do y’all think … do we like or hate with the fires of Hell?

  4. Kendra says:

He’s cute, but Central Park?? No way! The Smurfs village should be somewhere mysterious..Ahh well..Hopefully they’ll do the cartoon justice..

Hi Trent, as a belgian girl i’m really glad to see some belgium news ! :)
Did you ever come to my country?

  6. Lilliah says:

Dude, the Central Park thing is allll kinds of WRONG…
That being said, I’m also one of those people who’s *always* against anything being re-made.. movies, characters, songs, etc. I won’t even watch the Halloween or Willy Wonka remakes, and I’m still resentful that Strawberry Shortcake is skinny now. I can barely manage to hate on hardly any celebrities in particular, but when it comes to anything that involves my childhood nostalgia, I get all worked up! So, I’m totally unqualified to make calls about this sort of thing, cuz I’ll just be all NO and NO.

OMG I am such a Smurf fan. In fact one of my first record as a child was a Smurf record (in French of course)

Having Smurf village in central park is just the worst idea ever! It’s the homeie feel out of the show when it’s set in modern time. One of the great things about the smurfs is the setting. Back when there was no cars, having kings and queens. When life was simpler. Now they just ruined it by setting it up in present day in new york.

You should! Bruges & Anvers are such beautiful cities. If you come one day make sure to post it on the blog i would be thrilled to meet you ;)
