The 2010 Grammy Awards Are Handed Out

Earlier today we learned that Taylor Swift made history as the youngest performer to win the Album of the Year award at the 52nd Grammy Awards last night and Beyoncé made Grammy history as the most honored woman in an single night. We also learned that the late Michael Jackson was paid tribute by a group of Grammy performers in a fun 3D performance and his children appeared on stage to accept his Lifetime Achievement Award. But there were a lot of other folks at the Staples Center last night for the Grammy Awards … many of whom made their grand arrivals on the red carpet last night:

I know Imogen Heap is taking a lot of flak for her weird outfit but A.) she always dresses weird so what’s the big deal and B.) her dress was a very special one that was broadcasting a live Twitter feed from her followers so that they could be with her at the Grammys last night. She gets snaps in my book. There was a lot of love, a lot of crazy mess and a lot of divas on the red carpet last night … which is pretty standard fare, I think. After the jump, check out a few photos from the show itself and find out who else took home Grammophone tropies from the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards last night

[Taylor Swift], known for her blonde curly mane, had been expected to dominate the music industry’s top awards. But she was overshadowed by R&B singer Beyonce, who won six awards including song of the year — the most won by a female artist at a single event. Both were eclipsed for record of the year by Tennessee rock band Kings of Leon, who were the surprise honorees for their pop-radio hit “Use Somebody.” In winning album of the year, Swift broke a record held since 1996 by Alanis Morissette, who was 21 when she won for “Jagged Little Pill,” an album with decidedly more adult content. Swift also was the first solo female country winner ever of the award, and the first female pop winner since Celine Dion won in 1997 for “Falling Into You.” “I just hope that you know how much this means to me … that we get to take this back to Nashville,” said Swift … Kings of Leon, long more popular internationally, finally achieved mainstream success in the United States last year with “Use Somebody.” Brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew Followill also won a pair of Grammys in the rock field for the song, taking their career haul to four. Country combo the Zac Brown Band was named best new artist as expected. The Atlanta-based group becomes the first band to win the award since 2005 … The televised ceremony was packed with diverse performances, since 100 of the 109 categories were announced during a low-profile ceremony earlier in the day. Mary J. Blige and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli earned a standing ovation for their version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” performed as a fundraising tribute to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. The song was scheduled to go on sale at iTunes immediately afterwards. Swift dueted with Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks for a version of the band’s “Rhiannon.”

Because of the 3D aspect, I thought the MJ tribute was the best performance of the night but I gotta give it up to P!nk and her Cirque du Soleil-ness for putting on a very fun performance. It’s easy to make fun of someone suspended from bedsheets in an open arena but I’m so impressed that she can handle the theatrics AND sing live (and well) all at the same time. I’m not the biggest P!nk fan but I give her props for her fun performances. That being said, she needs to come up with something new already … she did this hanging from the rafters bit back at the MTV VMAs last September. The show was pretty interesting, overall. It did drag towards the end but … HELLO, we got 3D. I was fine with it. Click HERE for a full run down of the major Grammy Award winners last night … did YOUR faves win awards? Were you overall happy, upset or meh about the show itself?

    Very happy for Taylor!

  2. cherrr says:

Am I the only person who is tired of Beyonce?

  3. Jordan says:

    Yes you are Cherrr

  4. CB says:

Oh wow. I had no idea that Alanis was only 21 when she won for “Jagged Little Pill”. Her singing/songwriting at the same age make Taylor Swift seem even more childlike.

  5. Erica says:

no cherr, i’m tired of her also.

  6. debho says:

Me too cherr. She’s beyond boring.

  7. frisa says:

No Cherr…you’re not. Good for her for all her awards but there are a lot of other talented people out there who are just as deserving.

Y’all are crazy! I thought Beyonce’s performance was by far the highlight of the night. In the midst of a lot of sub-par singing, I thought she killed it! She’s the real deal. I appreciate that Taylor Swift writes her own music and is such a go-getter, not to mention that she’s adorable, but she is such a weak singer, so flat!! Of course, she wasn’t the only one. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t around in the 60′s & 70′s, but it seems like they had so much more genuine talent back then. Actually, when I think about it, even the 80′s. I thought the show was mostly pretty messy and unpleasant to watch. Also, Stephen Colbert, whom I usually love, was SUCH a bad opener. He set a totally uncomfortable tone for the whole show. I don’t know. It just seems like mainstream music sucks right now.

  9. CHASE says:

    - Stevie totally OWNED Taylor during her performance. I believe doing a duet with Stevie was a total mistake because it highlighted Taylor’s voice as weak and fragile. She tries to hit those high notes and her voice cracked on numerous occasions.
    - Beyonce is PLAYED OUT and people act like she’s the best thing since sliced bread.
    - Lady GaGa’s vagina was hanging out! EW
    - I think Taylor did deserve to win Album of the Year but I have to wonder…
    - Jennifer Lopez really needs to quit trying.
    - The Grammys, in general, are a joke.

    @fk seriously i love 60,70,80,90′s music lol
but i was a 90′s baby so thats why i love it.
now a days it seems all about synthisizers and how nasty your lyrics can be and your videos.
    evryone sounds the same.
your right taylor doesnt have a strong voice but she is a good writer and amoungst all the dirty dancing she is a breath of fresh air to just dress simple and like a lady.
and im 17 so im not old lol. i really do think
people need to learn such things as being subtle and learn inuendos because hearing you wanna go at it like a soilder or whatever its gross and unnessecery.
but really congrats to everyone you won. weitheror not we agree with it thats who their peers chose so they obviously felt they deserved it. lol
i wish i could sound more intelligent when i try to get my point across instead of sunding like i hd a brain fart lol

  11. jona says:

@cherrr no you’re not, I’m tired of her too.

  12. nicole says:

    -i dunno i liked bon jovi’s performance..i mean come on,,.Livin On A Prayer..killer song. lol
-and i liked Eminems – cause he never fails on stage & he makes drake look like a fool…and that makes me happy. the only downside…is they censored way to much over her..and there was no sound for most of the performance.
-i also kinda laughed during beyonces performance..cause i realized she was wearing a dress that rihanna wore in a photo shoot..and for some werid reason that amused me.
-but in the end…the grammys are useless now. i find them to be a joke the past few years.
and i feel bad for anyone who has to sit behind gaga at award shows.

  13. FK says:

@jellybelly, aww… You sound fine! Yeah, I see what you’re saying about Taylor Swift and subtlety. I agree with you on that.

  14. Kati says:

Where was Alicia Keys? I dont know, whenever she’s not at the Grammys something’s missing…..Her performances are always outstanding.

  15. J says:

I think the Beyonce factor is evident when you compare her and Mariah Carey. MC has only won less than 10 Grammy’s in her career. Beyonce now at 16 as a solo artist or something. If only Mariah’s dad has all musical ties and could be as intimidating as Beyonce’s…. rigged much!

There’s only room for one Diva, the Angel!

  16. Manda says:

I do like Beyonce but I was cringing during her performance. Especially when she tried to cover Alanis’ most famous song. It wasn’t good. The best performance was actually that country band Lady something-or-other. Pretty song! The worst performance was Jamie Foxx. Just awful. I actually wouAlbum of the Year. Are you kidding me? She’s overrated IMld have enjoyed the rap trio Drake, Em and Lil Wayne if 75% of the song wasn’t censored. Why bother? Lady Gaga and Elton were a little disappointing. It was basically the same performance she’s done on many other shows, except with Elton singing a little. I am appalled that Taylor Swift won Album of the Year. Are you kidding me? She’s overrated IMO.

  17. diane says:

I thought Pink was the best, tired of Beyonce, and Taylor was awful with Stevie

  18. Michelle says:

Can I just say that I LOVED Beyonce’s acceptance speech? The one where she thanked her “husband”? Jay-Z’s face was priceless… I mean seriously Jigga man, the Jig is up… what did he think we didn’t know? Priceless, seriously, I’m so happy she did that.

  19. mimi says:

beyonce has been doing that alanis song in every show of her most recent tour.. i dont know why people are so against her, she’s so talented and beautiful and strong.
    .
lady gaga and elton was the best performance in my opinion. i loved how she kept looking at him intently! it was like she couldnt believe she was actually singing with him, very cute!

  20. Britt says:

I thought the Lady Gaga and Elton performance was the best. I absolutely loved Lady Antebellum though. They sound so good together.

I didn’t like Beyonce covering the Alanis song. It is an angry song. What does she have to be angry with men about? She is married to Jay-Z. Plus, I thought Britney Spears did it better when she was on tour.
