Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Latest Straight-To-DVD Movie Finally Coming Out On DVD?
Better late than never ... or the other way around?

Back in March of 2009 we heard that Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s latest movie (at the time) Possession was going to be released straight to DVD … and then … it never did. Today we learn, practically a year later, that Possession is finally gettin’ released on DVD … at long last. Who’s excited?!

Way back in March of 2009 we reported that Possession, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, would be hitting DVD and Blu-ray on May 12th of that year. Well, the release date came and went with no product hitting store shelves. Now comes the news that we can expect them on March 9th, 2010. Co-starring Lee Pace (“Pushing Daisies”) and Michael Landes (Lakeview Terrace), Possession (which was directed by Joel Bergvall and Simon Sandquist) explores the darkest secrets of love and grief for one happy couple. The synopsis follows: Newlyweds Jess (Gellar) and Ryan (Landes) seem to have it all until a car accident renders both Ryan and his brother Roman (Pace) comatose. But things spin even more eerily out of control when Roman wakes up and tries to convince Jess that he is her husband. Beside herself with fear and grief, Jess grapples with the one question: Could the man before her actually be the man she lost … or does something far more sinister await her in his arms?

LOL. Poor SMG … even her straight-to-DVD films don’t get released to DVD anymore … well, I guess in this case this one finally will. As much as I love me some SMG, it appears that she is only good for one thing — being Buffy Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Oh wait, she’s also good at making adorable babies. OK, she’s good at two things. Making successful movies is not one of her strong suits … so she prolly should give that up. Who thinks SMG should just go back to being Buffy? Anyone?

Jeez, that was a little harsh. I happen to love me some SMG no matter what. I like her movies but some of them you have to wonder what she was thinking. She’s had some successful movies. I mean, let’s just be thankful she isn’t Jennifer Love Hewitt. OYYYY

  2. b says:

I loved her in Cruel Intentions! But, I just looked her up and it looks like her last 4 movies were limited release or straight to DVD…perhaps she needs a new agent?

Trent, we should start a petition(much like the get betty white to guest on SNL) to bring the original cast,Joss as producer to make a buffy movie.. I think it would make it relevant and a great idea!!!

Trent or anyone, I SWEAR a couple of years ago I saw a film production shot of SMG working on a film adaptation of the highly popular “Girl’s Guide to Hunting and Fishing.” She was in a carriage in Central Park. It was a huge book, the author got a phat sum for film rights, I SWEAR I thought I saw SMG at work on it, but years later, nada. Did anyone else see this or know about this?

For what its worth, I think this is a classic example a la Molly Ringwald of a lot of really bad career choices. I think SMG has acting chops (witness Cruel Intentions). @ b; she needed some new management a few films ago; she’s in a hard place to dig out now. She def has talent!

As much as I love SMG. Here career has gone kaput ever since Buffy ended. I can’t remember one thing she has done since Buffy other then Scooby Doo movies and she was in one horror movie I forget the name to. She doesn’t know how to pick movies. She need to do a Buffy movie quick or come back to TV otherwise she will be forgotten.

  6. Kendra says:

Am I the only one that liked the first Scooby Doo movie? She was cute in that! Not an Oscar worthy performance or anything, but I thought it was good! But you’re right..Most of her other choices haven’t been the best..I LOVE her as Buffy but I just don’t ever see them doing a movie at this point..Let’s just bring back the show!!

    truthy-
that movie was released as ‘surburan girl’

    @truthyisalways

The Girls’ Guide to Hunting & Fishing movie was released as “Suburban Girl” in 2007, straight to DVD, I think.

  9. I wanna see that HBO series…. The WOnderful Maladies? I don’t know if they plan on airing it.

Now that Joss has some time on his hands….. :( …..mebbe they could start on the Buffy movie we all want.

  10. Jill says:

“Girl’s Guide to Hunting and Fishing” was released as “Suburban Girl” with SMG and Alec Baldwin.

    I really like the movie.

And, Trent, this post about SMG was totally way too harsh.

“Buffy” was her biggest role, and such an iconic role that lasted for so long, so it is not fair to compare everything else that she ever does in her entire life to that. Or to say she is only good for playing that role and having babies.

  11. Nicole says:

Personally, I loved The Air I Breathe. It should have been a much wider release. SMG was really good in it. Surprisingly, so was Brendan Fraser.

  12. truthyisalways says:

So that’s where it went! Thanks Jill and Jenn!

  13. Mary Jo says:

She was also in The Southland Tales.

  14. Whitney says:

I really miss SMG!! I would love her to be in a Buffy movie with Joss, but can Joss really tie in everything he wants to write in a 2 hour movie? It’s Joss!! It is also hard to get everyone in the same place at the same time. I keep telling myself this so I wont be dissapointed. All I really want is to see SMG with a box office hit in the near future! And some sort of collaboration with Joss again.

  15. dex says:

I hope Veronika Decides to Die gets a US release, because she’s pretty good in this film

  16. Frenger says:

and that movie where she’s like a chef or something and a crab helps her to cook and people end up feeling the way she’s feeling? remember?

  17. Ashley says:

I read some where “The Wonderful Maladies” is a no go for HBO. She would of been great on it. But every movie she done since buffy has all gone to video or a limited release. When was the last time you heard Buzz about sarah other then her baby being born

  18. Lisa says:

Huge SMG fan…. well, a fan of her personally, not an actress! HAHA

I loved her in Cruel Intentions and I Know What You Did Last Summer….. she’s also hilarious in SNL

    What happened?

  19. robin says:

@Frenger…that movie was SOOO bad! i totally didn’t get the crab…i remember watching it with my cousins and it was laughably bad. poor sarah.

@trent…what happened to that one psyche movie she was supposed to be in that you wrote about awhile back? i can’t really remember anything about it besides the fact that she was in it and it looked good/intense.

  20. robin says:

oh oh! i IMDBed it. Veronica Decides to Die…it says 2009. is that straight to DVD too?
