Lil’ Wayne Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine
"I'm looking forward to [prison]."

On the eve of his upcoming 1-year prison sentence for illegal weapons possession, rapper Lil’ Wayne (née Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.) is featured on the cover of the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In his coverstory interview, Wayne confesses that it is his belief that God wants him in prison … tho, I suspect the authorities who arrested, prosecuted, convicted and sentenced him prolly want him in prison, too. Here is Lil’ Wayne‘s RS coverphoto along with some excerpts from his interview:

Lil Wayne is constantly moving. But the hyperactive hip-hop star will find himself suddenly sedentary come Tuesday, when he has to report to prison to serve a yearlong sentence for gun possession. “I don’t like to stop,” Wayne, 27, tells Rolling Stone. “I believe you stop when you die.” He says his prison term is God’s will for him and everything happens for a reason. Wayne’s felony charge came after a July 2007 arrest in New York City, when police found a .40-caliber handgun in his tour bus. Initially Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., pleaded not guilty – but in October, he changed his plea to guilty in exchange for a reduced 12-month sentence. But before he finds himself waking up behind bars at New York’s Rikers Island, Wayne is packing in video shoots, recording sessions of songs from The Carter IV and time with his family. He says he’s avoiding getting tips on prison life. “This is Lil Wayne going to jail,” he says. “Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that’s like. I just say I’m looking forward to it.”

I’m not a Lil’ Wayne fan by any means but I can appreciate that he is a very talented, hugely popular artist and I find it wholly fascinating that the fact that he is going to prison for weapons possession will likely make him an even bigger star. Celebs these days can practically get away with murder and still enjoy much success afterward whereas celebs of the past could not. The old adage there’s no such thing as bad press rings more true today than ever before. I’m pretty sure Wayne‘s plan is to get as much work done as possible before he goes to prison, then turn his prison experience into more work which will — in turn — prove a huge, successful boon later on down the road. It’s nuts, y’all … but these days, I guess it’s just the way the game is played.

@ CB: You’re an idiot. Unless you regularly find eighty year olds ridiculously sexually attractive, who cares? When people get to that age, everything sags, becomes brittle and covered in hair. Your ink sags and fades as your body begins to collapse. People will notice the boobs down to the waist and the ear hair a lot more than old ink.

    “Nothing like thinking ahead”

Nothing like being a judgemental asshole.

Love him- I totally understand why his stuff isn’t some people’s thing, but he’s definitely talented. I’m not a fan of it, either, but just because people use autotune in (some) songs, it doesn’t negate their talent- he’s a rapper, he obviously doesn’t need it to “sing”, because that’s not what he’s doing. Most people who bring that up probably haven’t actually heard anything other than shit like lollipop and the billion songs he’s feat on with other artists, anyway- he’s not a new artist! I’m not the kind of person who gets easily worked up about other people’s personal issues, though- I still and will always love Kanye, and a lot of other people who are easy targets now. Now, if I find out he kicks puppies, he’s dead to me- otherwise, I’m a huge fan.

also @ CB- call me biased, but people with dark skin will fare better with their tattoos in old age, anyway.

on the interview with Katie Couric, she says: do you ever think like wow i have an 10 year old daughter? and wayne says: Yes a 10 year old daughter and 2 month year old son,. kattie: do you ever think ” Am i a good role model ya know am i a good example for people on how to live their lives” Lil wayne: I’M NOT AN EXAMPLE FOR PEOPLE HOW TO LIVE THEIR LIVES, AND NEVER IN MY LIFE WILL I EVER SET AN EXAMPLE TO PEOPLE ON HOW TO LIVE THEIR LIVES..IF YOU NEED AN EXAMPLE HOW TO LIVE, YOU SHOULD’NT HAVE BEEN BORN..AND I AM A GREAT ROLE MODEL BECAUSE IM A ROLE MODEL FOR 2.. @ danielle..i didn’t say jamie foxx was a rapper…i said i’m not a rap fan, but i can appreciate other artists in a similar genre.

@ YP..you’re right..all those artists are horrible influences. reguardless if people are trying to be role models or not..they’re in the media. putting them on magazine covers automatically says to everyone who sees the magazine that this person is something special. i don’t think any amount of success deems someone worthy of attention if they can’t even abide by basic laws of society. he’s a freakin idiot. apparently with ALL those acolades he couldn’t take the time to get legal registered weapons.

when people are in the public eye and knowingly have young impressionable fans, they, above anyone, should be held accountable for any and all actions they take. and publications such as rollingstone should not reward them by putting them on their cover and further progressing their career.

  7. Manda says:

@robin I see your point, but Rolling Stone is known for doing controversial covers. It’s what sells. Is it right? Maybe not, but it’s the way it is. I guess it goes back to the old consumer saying…if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Right?

  8. Tommy says:

don’t hate on weezy, if you dont like him then dont listen to him. stop bitching on here and go do somethin with your life cuz thats what hes doing, he is bigger than all of you, respect what he does…CMYMB till i die
