Lil’ Wayne Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine
"I'm looking forward to [prison]."

On the eve of his upcoming 1-year prison sentence for illegal weapons possession, rapper Lil’ Wayne (née Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.) is featured on the cover of the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In his coverstory interview, Wayne confesses that it is his belief that God wants him in prison … tho, I suspect the authorities who arrested, prosecuted, convicted and sentenced him prolly want him in prison, too. Here is Lil’ Wayne‘s RS coverphoto along with some excerpts from his interview:

Lil Wayne is constantly moving. But the hyperactive hip-hop star will find himself suddenly sedentary come Tuesday, when he has to report to prison to serve a yearlong sentence for gun possession. “I don’t like to stop,” Wayne, 27, tells Rolling Stone. “I believe you stop when you die.” He says his prison term is God’s will for him and everything happens for a reason. Wayne’s felony charge came after a July 2007 arrest in New York City, when police found a .40-caliber handgun in his tour bus. Initially Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., pleaded not guilty – but in October, he changed his plea to guilty in exchange for a reduced 12-month sentence. But before he finds himself waking up behind bars at New York’s Rikers Island, Wayne is packing in video shoots, recording sessions of songs from The Carter IV and time with his family. He says he’s avoiding getting tips on prison life. “This is Lil Wayne going to jail,” he says. “Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that’s like. I just say I’m looking forward to it.”

I’m not a Lil’ Wayne fan by any means but I can appreciate that he is a very talented, hugely popular artist and I find it wholly fascinating that the fact that he is going to prison for weapons possession will likely make him an even bigger star. Celebs these days can practically get away with murder and still enjoy much success afterward whereas celebs of the past could not. The old adage there’s no such thing as bad press rings more true today than ever before. I’m pretty sure Wayne‘s plan is to get as much work done as possible before he goes to prison, then turn his prison experience into more work which will — in turn — prove a huge, successful boon later on down the road. It’s nuts, y’all … but these days, I guess it’s just the way the game is played.

I had no idea he had THAT many tattoos.
It looks like he fell asleep while baby sitting and a kid ran out of paper and decided to just finish drawing on him.

  2. CB says:

When I see a person with that many tats, I can’t help but imagine what they will look like when they are 80 years old. There’s nothing like thinking ahead.

  3. Margie says:

Same here about those tattoos. I wanted one for the longest but for personal reasons, I opted out of tattoos. Besides, I’m more interested in that story on The Big Bang Theory.

  4. nicole says:

    he’s such an overrated fool..ugh.

  5. Ash says:

Im upset that they would put a photo on the cover where hes flashing his gang sign. its a known fact hes a gang member and I think this is stupid!

  6. cherrr says:

i lovelovelove lil wayne, and I can’t WAIT to see what he comes out with after his prison time.
a year is a long time to wait though. sad days.

  7. Kendra says:

My mom gets my mail at her place and as she was giving me this issue, she said, “Oh look..A face only a mother could love.” She was sickened when I told her that there’s just something about him that I find super sexy..He goes against pretty much everything I stand for, but..meh..I’d still do him..I think he’s super talented and I like that he works with all varieties of artists..I just think he’s swell!

  8. Katie says:

They can leave him in prison as far as I’m concerned. The kind of image he portrays and the type of role model he is being for young boys, especially African American boys is disturbing.

  9. p says:

i LOVE lil Wayne, can’t wait to see all this stuff he is filming!

  10. anne says:

Jesus H Christ no wonder he started tattooing his face

  11. Manda says:

That is a really bad cover photo. Oh well, at least we get a year break from him! It seems like he’s on every single song that’s out this year.

  12. Viola says:

    This guy repulses me.

  13. testington says:

Ugh, he is the worst thing to happen to music in the past decade! His “rapping” is nothing more than auto-tuned talking with lame lyrics

  14. Megan says:

I think hes extremely talented. But how can he sit there talking about God when hes flashing gang symbols on magazine covers and saying the stuff he says in his lyrics. As another poster said, the image hes giving to young boys, especially African American boys, is disgusting. How can you tell teens being in gangs doesn’t pay off when you have multi millionaire rappers who flaunt it?

  15. I am not a fan. I don’t see why people like him. And this cover is nasty, with the gang sign and all.

  16. maribella says:

he’s talented, but not as much as he thinks he is. honestly, i think it’s his own cockiness that makes everyone believe he’s the best thing out right now. but just like with kanye, that shizz gets old.

  17. robin says:

he is truly repulsive. i hate when people like him are famous. there is something wrong with our society when an ugly, law breaking, moronic, gang member somehow manages to be on the cover of one of the most popular publications of our time. im not a big rap fan…but artists like ludacris and jamie foxx i can appreciate for their creativity. he is just idiotic.

  18. Jen says:

Listen to his song “Knock Out” Incredible…very different from anything I have heard from it. It is so fun. I like him. Obviously he’s not the best influence, but honestly, that’s our society, that’s most of our celebrities. Hopefully kids have better role models in their parents that Lil’ Wayne flashing a gang sign won’t make them run to the streets and join a gang themselves (:

  19. danielle says:

Um, robin, Jamie Foxx is not a rapper. You obv don’t know what you’re talking about…
