Kellan Lutz Teams Up With PETA To Save Some Animals
'Always Adopt, Never Buy'

Kellan Lutz is not only working to promote Calvin Klein Underwear these days, he is also working with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to promote their newly launched Always Adopt, Never Buy campaign. While, very unfortunately, Kellan is mostly dressed in his new promo photo for PETA, I think the message is a very important one:

Gorgeous Twilight saga actor Kellan Lutz—known to many fans as the studly vampire Emmett Cullen—reveals his softer side in a new ad for PETA. Part of PETA’s “Adopt, Don’t Buy” campaign, the ad shows Lutz hugging his rescued mixed-breed dog Kola and reads, “Buying Animals Is Killing Animals. Save a Homeless Dog or Cat—Always Adopt and Never Buy.” The ad, which can be seen here, was shot by top celebrity photographer Collin Stark. “I love mutts!” gushed Lutz in an exclusive interview with PETA. “If anything, I think mutts stay the healthiest.” Lutz also addressed the animal-overpopulation crisis. “There are surprisingly so many animals, so many animals in these animal shelters,” he said. “It’s sad, and knowing that they get euthanized … and there’s a lot you can do … spay or neuter your pets so that doesn’t happen.” Almost 8 million unwanted dogs and cats enter animal shelters every year in the U.S., and half of them must be euthanized simply because there aren’t enough good homes. Buying an animal from a pet store or breeder robs a homeless animal of a chance at adoption and encourages sellers to acquire more purebred animals. Lutz, a big fan of mutts, encourages “Twilighters” to adopt. For more information or to see Kellan Lutz’s ad and exclusive interview, please visit PETA.org.

Lutz fans, you gotta watch this interview … it’s plainly obvious that Kellan truly cares about animals and he really wants to impress upon people that we should, nay, we must “take them under our wing and take care of them”. Watch Kellan‘s interview video for PETA after the jump …

The story about his own pooch Kola is really cute. Whether you agree with PETA on some of their campaigns or not, there is no denying that this particular campaign is an important one.

should i LOL at the irony that he plays emmett, and in twilight emmett would be eating this animals? … yeah, i think i will.

  2. Lilly says:

I normally don’t agree with a lot of PETA’s tactics, but this is SO SO important!! (didn’t really need the unexpected seal killing though).
Way to go Kellan!! I’ve adopted 13 animals from shelters in my life, and I always will!!

I have a beautiful rescued dog who’ve I watched become confident and full of personality after being horribly abused and once begin extremely anxious.

I belive fully in rescuing animals, but I CANNOT tolerate PETA at all anymore due to their horrendous tactics in the last years. They have done more damage to this movement than help. Support your local no-kill shelters and SPCAs rather than this trashy organization.

you think if i put my head between his legs, he’d take me home? :P

and i totally agree with you lilly!

  5. paige says:

    @ Lilly: I totally agree.

OMG- there’s nothing more adorable then a hot guy waxing poetic about his pets. Rescue mutts rule!

  6. Alicia says:

I find adopted and rescued pets end up being so much more lovable and affectionate, PETA did something good with this ad.

  7. Diana says:

@Rachel I completely agree. Although I do agree the Adopt, don’t buy message is important. PETA as an organization makes me cringe.

  8. Alyssa says:

I think he should also do the “I’d rather go naked than wear fur ad” ;)

  9. jessica says:

If there’s no reason to kill or injury an animal… is he a vegan?

  10. Krissy says:

I agree with Lily. I don’t like PETA, but I do like the Adopt campaign. I also agree with Rachel that donating to SPCA or local shelters is a really good thing. I have several friends that are “foster moms” with certain shelters…taking in the dogs for a limited time until they are adopted, so they don’t have to be euthanised. I think it is a great thing.

  11. Ama says:

@Rachel–I agree with you completely. I’m no fan of PETA at all, but adopting instead of buying is an important message and I’m glad Kellan is still supporting this and giving word on it. I just wish he would have done it with SPCA or something like that :)

Also; you don’t need to be vegan to think that killing an animal for for their fur is wrong(Which I think, is what Kellan was talking about when he said ‘There is no reason to kill or injure an animal’)

When animals are killed for just for their fur, it is taking a life for a selfish reason. People can survive now a days without wearing fur. It’s not needed, and it’s pointless killing.

    *SWOON*

  13. Kelly says:

hes def hot. I hate peta though, they are extremists. And they killed 95% of the animals they rescued last year and only adopted out 7 of them.

I don’t understand how people thing that Peta is such a good thing. Yes I agree, animals shouldn’t be killed for their fur, puppy mills need to be extinguished. But everyone needs to educate themselves so that they can have an ACTUAL opinion. This article says a lot about peta, thought I’d share. :)

I volunteer at our local humane society every saturday I do what is called the bath brigade which is giving dogs baths for about 3 hours it is the most amazing feeling to give a dog a bath to make them clean smell good and shine it also is a great way for dogs to get adopted as people see us doing it in the huge windows the dogs always put on a show with there smiles they way they lick me it makes all the bad stuff during the week disappear if only for 3 hours I urge you to try it some time thanks trent for posting this about kellan and his dog

  15. Chloe says:

i dont get why he’s suddenly so famous

  16. EmCee says:

My rescued kitty’s name is Emmett :)

I could never imagine buying an animal. My ex-roommate’s family breeds cats and it’s so sad how dirty/unhealthy their animals are. I believe at one point she even mentioned to me, when my cat was being a douche(which he is often, but he’s also wonderful!) that “that’s what you get for not buying.” Really? I mean…really?

So, I’m glad Kellan is doing this, even though it is for PETA, because it’s still a very, very important message!

    LOL @trent@Chole!!!

  18. PixiesBassline says:

I have adopted several felines from my local “Humane” society.
I recently adopted the most darling little sweetheart and named her Xanadu. She’s “getting her spay on” this very moment! :)
She is SOOOO grateful to have a home!!!!
Speaking of “buying”… I’ve already spent $250. on that kitten-cat! (she was in poor condition). So, it was ALMOST like I went to a cattery!
