Oh snap!! New reports out today reveal that Jennifer Lopez, La Diva Latina herself, has been dumped by her record label Sony Music Epic Records. I understand that her contract with the label was fulfilled by the last two singles she released (the horrid Louboutins was one of them) and the label decided they do not want to re-sign her and have no interest in releasing her new album Love? Yikes! At this point, J. Lo‘s recording career is dunzo, y’all!

Jennifer Lopez has spent most of her singing career at Sony Music Epic Records. The bland version of what happened, I’m told, is that the contract period had ended and that Lopez had fulfilled it with her last two singles, and that Lopez and Stringer decided together not to move forward with an album. Others insist the Sony label dropped her. There also is disagreement on how finished her upcoming album was before it was canceled. Internet reports say her 7th studio album, titled “Love?”, was supposed to come out in April and featured production from Danja, Jim Jonsin, Darkchild, Chris n Teeb from Dropzone, and The Neptunes among others. A song from it titled “Fresh Out The Oven” surfaced online in October 2009 as a buzz single and reached #1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Songs chart. But the official lead single, “Louboutins”, had its radio debut on November 23 following the song’s premiere and performance at the 2009 American Music Awards and then peaked at #31 on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart. Lopez insiders claim to me the album was “by no means done” and everyone was “only a few songs into it” and “unlike movie dates, street dates rarely hold in the music biz”. But that album was real enough to delay the release of her upcoming CBS Film, The Back-Up Plan. Others tell me the album isn’t being released because “Louboutins” bombed, as did her performance at the American Music Awards, and Sony Music execs “aren’t sure who her audience is anymore. Where once she had little girls, she’s been supplanted by Beyonce, Gaga, and Rhianna. Lots of fighting going on between Benny Medina (who, of course, is spending their money like it’s 10 years ago) and the label.” But when I began inquiring about this, her manager Benny Medina emailed this morning to confirm the split. “Jennifer had a wonderful relationship with the Sony Music group, and they have shared many successes together, but the time was right to make a change that best serves the direction her career as an actress and recording artist. She is grateful and appreciative to everyone Sony for all that they accomplished together” … eanwhile, I understand that Sony will still be releasing her “Greatest Hits” album in the fall. Supposedly, Lopez has not wasted any time getting signed elsewhere: it’s rumored she is already in talks with Island Def Jam’s bigwig L.A. Reid to come to his label. Granted, this is a tough time for music artists, especially those like Lopez who were once big in the biz and now are battling not only the changed economics and rampant piracy but also the moving target of today’s music fans. JLo insiders insist none of this is fazing Lopez, who took time off to have two kids with her recording star husband, Marc Anthony, and who is just now returning to her acting career with the release of the feature The Back Up Plan.
Yeah, I don’t care how “amicable” they are trying to spin this story … Sony Epic would not be letting J. Lo go if they thought she could make them more money. The music biz is in shambles and an artist like J. Lo, who commands a lot of money, can be seen as dead weight if she is not able to bring the hits. I have no doubt that Lopez will get a new record contract, she may even get one that is pretty lucrative, but the fact that she is no longer a hitmaker means that her days in the music biz are very limited. If Love? is made up of garbage like Louboutins then it’s prolly for the best that we never hear it. I’m not sure how much longer Jennifer Lopez can stretch out her music career but this is not a good sign for her longevity. Mebbe it’s time she pack it in now and save some face.

Ok, in looking at this first photo of her, it seems like she’s had some plastic surgery done… Is it just me? It’s fine if she did – it’s her job to be beautiful and stuff… I just wish JLo would stick with one thing and master it – Singing OR Dancing OR Acting OR Fragrances (?) OR Clothes??? Just narrow down her focus so she can be good at that and be an excellent mom and wife… just a thought….
I heard this yesterday and my first thought was that I can’ t believe she made it this long. However, if Sony already made the album they might as well release it anyway to recoup the costs of recording it. Especially if they just released it digitally, then they wouldn’ t have to worry about packaging costs.
i dont get why they just done release the album. like Krissy said…its already done…and the just releasing it digitally isnt such a bad idea.
i was actually kinda curious about this album, there were a couple singles i liked. so i hope it gets “accidently” leaked – soon.
Too bad…I really liked ‘Loubotins’, ‘What Is Love’ and ‘Fresh Out The Oven’. At least her movie is still coming out in April, that sounds really fun.
Jennifer Lopez is extremely lazy. Her performances have sucked completely and I’m tired of her being a stuck up diva with nothing to back it up with. Beyonce has officially taken Jennifer’s spot. JLO’s recent movie just lacked…something. They weren’t good at all. Her movie is most likely going to bomb, too.
she should call “puffy”, he at least had her with some hit songs.
I agree she should ask Puffy to help her with a song or two.
I loved her early singles . If You Had My Love ,Waiting for tonight, and My Love Dont Cost a Thing are great.
or she should just concentrate on being in good movies, she is a good actress.
It took then this long to realize that she cant sing?
Wtf is this site about? “Let’s hate on Jennifer Lopez” or something?
@ygomez — I, for one, do not hate Jennifer Lopez … but let’s be honest, she hasn’t had a hit in years. It may be time for her to cool it with the music and focus on movies. I just hate to see her continue to fail.
I for one am so glad that she’s not in the spotlight anymore. Remember the crazy media sensation she and Ben caused when they were dating? Not that it was totally their fault, but I think she is the classic example of what overexposure can do to a career. It’s one thing if she were talented in acting or music, but she really isn’t stellar in either category IMO.
bout time, girl couldn’t sing a note!
From 1998-2002 she was the “It Girl”. The music was hot (esp “Waiting For Tonight”, “Ain’t It Funny” and “Walking on Sunshine”) and the whole J Lo persona was infectious.
After she divorced Cris Judd and got with Ben Affleck, things went down from there, and that’s when she lost me as a fan. When I heard what happened with Epic I was also not surprised. Even though the “Fresh Out The Oven” remixes went #1 in the clubs, no one outside the dance market even knew the song was out. And that video was horrific!
“Loubutons” (sp?) was not a good single choice and the fact this new album kept getting pushed back didn’t look good for her.
She should stick with the movies or continue being a full time mother and wive. She’s got plenty of money and really doesn’t need to be out there as much anymore.
She’ll get a lucrative deal and be back, IMO/
She should go back to her old school hits – like teaming up with Ja Rule. Both are in need for a career push. Neither has had a decent hit or album in a few years – be good to go back to her roots.
JLO has made some of the biggest hits of the early 2000′s – she had Beyonce’s career in a way. Except instead of touring she made movies instead and made a shitload of money doing so.
Play is a really great song – one of her, if not the best song of JLO.
I absolutely love Jennifer Lopez. I don’t love absolutely every song that she does, but I like most. I find her comedies quite funny and Enough is one of my favourites. She will most definitely find another record deal. No doubt about that.
@J – the last thing she needs is a new song with Ja rule…i agree with the people who say she needs to get back in the studio with Diddy. or even hook up with Jermaine Dupri…that man works wonders getting careers back on track.
Trent!
Try listening to her songs “Everybody’s Girl” and “What Is Love?”. They’re amazing. I was so sure those songs would propel her back to #1.
Give them a listen, it’s the classic Jennifer we all know and love!
Oh, they’re off her album “Love?”. Just wanted to clarify!
Is it wrong that I actually like “Louboutins”? lol… and “Get Right” was amazing, up there with her older hits, and that one is not so old…
South Park Predicted thiS !
lol
