Taylor Swift may be reveling in the fact that she won the top Album of the Year prize at the 2010 Grammy Awards, held here in LA, CA last night, but the really major accomplishment goes to pop diva Beyoncé for winning 6 Grammy Awards … setting a new record for the most wins by a female artist in Grammy history. You may recall that Beyoncé took home 5 Grammy Awards on the strength of her debut album Dangerously In Love but those 5 wins tied her with Alison Krauss, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys and Amy Winehouse (who each won 5 awards in one night as well). Beyoncé‘s 6th win last night (Song of the Year for Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)) put her over the top and into the Grammy record books:

Beyonce has set a record for the most wins by a female in one night at the Grammys as she won six awards, including best female pop performance and song of the year for her anthem “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).” Beyonce was Sunday night’s top nominee with 10 nods. Her wins also included best contemporary R&B album for “I Am … Sasha Fierce.” Beyonce had previously been tied for most wins by a female at a Grammys with Alison Krauss, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse … She won the songwriting trophy along with three writers for her omnipresent anthem “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).” The superstar also won best R&B contemporary album for “I Am … Sasha Fierce” among her other awards, and still had the opportunity to win the evening’s remaining top award — album of the year. Beyonce wasn’t on hand to accept her early trophies: She was preparing for her dramatic onstage rendition of “If I Were A Boy,” one of several hits from her top-selling third CD.
Well, we know now that Taylor Swift ended up nabbing the Album of the Year award but Beyoncé really did make a killing last night. At least she was nice enough to share the wealth, not only with Swift but also with Kings of Leon (who won Record of the Year for their massive hit Use Somebody). I think Beyoncé has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with … here’s hoping the best is yet to come. I firmly believe she will enjoy future award show nights just as big (or bigger) as last night’s haul at the 2010 Grammy Awards. There is still a lot of Grammy stuff to talk about … we’ll get to that a little later in the day. But first, a question … who do you think had a bigger night last night … Beyoncé or Taylor Swift?

@ J, its not daddy’s bankroll, but Beyonce’s. SHE employes him. if he wasn’t her manager, he would be flat broke. taylor’s perfomance was so horrific that i had to mute her. lol.
Uh, yeah- whoever keeps insinuating that Beyonce’s father’s money has anything to do with her accomplishments is a liiiiiittle bit deluded
i know she hasn’t done anything in FOREVER, but LAUREN HILL also won 5 GRAMMY’S in one night. 1999. just thought it should be mentioned as she was not included in the listing of women who also achieved the same honor. let’s not sell her short as it was a great album! now give her her props!!!!
brat hols i agree with you why was Lauryn Hill not mentioned considering she is the first one to break the record. And her album is much superior that all the albums produced by the other artists mentioned in this post. Its not fair period.
