Gary Coleman, who was recently arrested in Utah for failing to appear at an important court date [because he was hospitalized with a heart condition] and then was released from jail in a wheelchair, appeared on The Insider last night to talk about his legal woes and was, IMHO, ambushed on national television by a lawyer who kept pressing him to answer accusations that he physically abused his wife. Here are a few screencaps from the encounter:
I can’t help but feel bad for poor Gary Coleman … the guy is set up like a punching bag and in this interview is berated to the point that he storms out of the interview which I think was the original intent of the Insider interview. The Insider makes it a habit of ambushing their interviewees just so they can capture these sorts of responses for their show. It’s clear that Gary Coleman has some anger issues but to ambush him like this, on national TV, seems like a bit much. I cannot believe that he abuses his wife but I would not be surprised if abuse of some sort goes on in their home. Whatever the case may be, I find it really pretty crappy that the folks at The Insider would lay into him like this. I just can’t help but feel sorry for the little guy.

I think that was awful. He did deny it earlier! He said there is no abuse in my house. Why did she keep pushing like that? That’s a joke. Also, that shrink they had at the end is a joke to. I am currently working on a psych major and that was provoked, he was good about it until he asked her to drop it and she didn’t it. I think she has bitch problems, Gary doesn’t have anger problems.

What utter bullshit. “She wanted answers”. No, she wanted a specific answer, a specific behaviour, and she pushed until she got it. Oh yes, they are “lucky” he didn’t just hit her right there. *rolls eyes* I can’t believe these people. Gary’s right, they can all do the universe a favour and just go jump in a lake. And they can take the Twangy Guitar of Emotional Incredulity with them.
All those panelists on The Insider just like to bully any guest they have on the show. Gary Coleman sat there and said there is no abuse in my house and yet Lisa Bloom just sat there and kept provoking him ( i guess that is what we can expect from the daughter of Gloria Allred). All they are looking for is ratings and they will push around any one they can for ratings

I love that they had a behavioural psychologist on hand to debrief. Clearly they got the reaction they wanted out of him. So staged.
Those individuals on The Insider were so unprofessional. If it were an A-list actor, they would have treated him with respect, and not verbally attacked him.

I think I watched the insider when it first started. But haven’t watched it in like 5 or 6 years.
I’m not trying to be a buttface here, but I don’t think it’s appropriate to say you “cannot believe that he abuses his wife.” As somebody who worked at a domestic abuse shelter for over a year, I think it’s dangerous to say that because somebody is nice on the outside he can’t be an abuser.
On a side note, that lady in the red is a turd.
@Nikki — I don’t believe that he doesn’t abuse his wife because he’s nice, I don’t believe it because his wife is the one who was convicted of assaulting him. It’s possible that he has assaulted his wife, who is larger than he is, but I don’t personally believe it.
I can’t believe that they would push him that hard and pretty much push him to explode and then have the balls to diagnose his behaviour afterwards and make it seem like hes crazy for walking off, i would have done a lot more then walk off if that bitch had been talking to me like that! these insider people are jerks!
I don’t even understand this? So, she asked him what happened in the beginning of the interview and he says he never abused his wife. So why did she keep asking him? Gary rightfully got pissed and walked away. Isn’t that what were all taught to do when we get pissed off at someone? -”Just Walk Away” – Then they talk a bunch of shit and say he’s got a problem? I know that it’s all for entertainment, but those people are scum.
