Read: Shane Koyczan, ‘We Are More’

Earlier today I blogged about my love for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games but I want to take this opportunity to share one other bit of magic from those ceremonies with all y’all. Slam Poet Shane Koyczan read aloud a poem he wrote entitled We Are More and I was so impressed by his words that I thought they are worth another read. The New York Times even took note of his powerful, stirring and very fitting performance

The ceremony was … thoughtful and stirring. It was authentically and unabashedly Canadian. The poet Shane Koyczan pointed out that his was a country not afraid to use the words “please and thank you.” You could add that it’s a country unafraid to put a poet up there on the stage in the first place.

I echo the chorus that believes the Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games were distinctly Canadian … and that is what makes it so special, so truly amazing! I mean, how wonderful was it that a poet was chosen to participate in such a larger-than-life SPORTING event celebration? I was very impressed, y’all. After the jump, read the full transcript of Koyczan‘s We Are More poem as read during the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games last night …

How I Met Your Madre
When Neil Patrick Harris Met Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez paid a visit to the set of the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother yesterday to film a guest appearance on the show … so naturally, HIMYM star Neil Patrick Harris just had to share a photo with J. Lo with all of his followers on Twitter:

Jennifer Lopez was really great – hot, cool, and funny. And well prepared! She gave me a few pointers. Here’s one:

Hahahaha … cute pic. While I’m sure NPH‘s character Barney was happy to have Jennifer Lopez all up on him for the show, NPH himself was prolly all giddy for an entirely different reason to be chillin’ with La Diva Latina. As far as fierce beyotches go, these two make a nice pair!

The TV Guide
Yo-Ho-Ho & A Birthday Cake

As I mentioned previously, our good friend Josh Z. celebrated his birthday yesterday and David and I thought it would be fun to take him and his lovely lady Emma for dinner in Buena Park, CA at Pirate’s Dinner Adventure:

Hey, if Pirate’s Dinner Adventure is good enough for Victoria Beckham and her sons, it’s good enough for our friends, too!! JZ wasn’t too keen on turning another year old (heh, I can identify) so David and I wanted to take him somewhere fun to really celebrate his day. After the jump, check out some of other fun pics we took on our adventure last night …

Prayers for Parker, Lots of Snow & a couple of Pooches
PITNB Readers, 021310

Here is this week’s batch of photos sent in by Pink is the new Blog readers — Jenny sends in a photo of her adorable little boy Parker who is 4 months old and, unfortunately, very sick. Jenny is asking for our thoughts and prayers for her little boy to recover from his illness and I know that all y’all will send your happy, healing vibes his way — Daniel, a self-proclaimed Summit Junkie, sends in an awesome photo from high atop one of the peaks he climbed — Michelle sends in a pic of her 4-month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy Mason Oakie enjoying the Snowpacalypse in New Jersey this week — Letty sends in a fun photo of her snow bunny creation — Kelly sends in a CUTE photo of her six year old pooch Duke watching the 3D tribute to Michael Jackson at the Grammy Awards a couple of weeks ago:

First off … please take a few moments right now to send healing thoughts and prayers to Parker. I know his mom Jenny will really appreciate the help because it cannot be easy for her to shoulder all the positive thinking on her own. Much love to all of you for sending in your photos … they are such a joy. I look forward to receiving them each week. I am also very much looking forward to the good news that Paker has recovered fully and absolutely! xoxo

Ready or not, here it comes
‘Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time’ Does ‘Total Film’ Magazine

The upcoming new action film (based on a video) Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Total Film magazine. As much as it pains me to admit, I’m quite worried that this film is going to be a disaster once it hits the big screen … but promo for Persia continues unfettered:

As you may recall, my worry about the film came the first time I saw the movie trailer released last November. I’m concerned that Jakey poo will not be able to carry this film on his own … and that accent? OY! But, I’m hoping my worries will be laid to rest when I see the film in theaters later this year. After the jump, check out a few promo photos from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time from this issue of Total Film magazine …

Water Wings!!
Lourdes Maria & Mercy James Hit The Pool In Brazil

Earlier this week we learned that Madonna made her way down to Brazil to partake in a bit of pre-Carnival celebrating with her toyboy Jesus Luz and it turns out she did not make her way to Brazil alone … she brought along her daughters Lourdes Maria and the just-turned-5-years-old Chifundo Mercy James. Here are a few cute pics of the sisters playing in a hotel pool together … get a load of Mercy‘s water wings!!

OMG … so cute!! I cannot believe how big Mercy looks already … she’s just adorable. We’ve already seen all the fun that Madonna has been having in Rio de Janeiro this week … it’s nice to see that her daughters are having fun of their own :)

“I really hate vaginas. I’m allergic to vaginas."
Robert Pattinson Does ‘Details’ Magazine

Robert Pattinson is featured on the cover and in the pages of the 10 Anniversary Issue of Details magazine which is devoted to the “Remasculation of the American Man” … which is very interesting, considering the quotes R. Pattz gave about his non-affinity for vaginas. HMMM. While Pattinson‘s quotes are sure to garner some attention, I think it’s the accompanying photospread — complete with nekkid ladies — that will get all of the attention. Here is Robert Pattinson‘s Details magazine coverphoto along with his feelings on vaginas … and more:

Rob on the sexy Details photo shoot: “I really hate vaginas. I’m allergic to vaginas. But I can’t say I had no idea, because it was a 12-hour shoot , so you kind of get the picture that these women are going to stay naked after, like, five or six hours…Thank God I was hungover.”

On his dream job of political speech writing: “You’d have two or three minutes to affect someone. Make them hear you…I quite enjoyed doing the press for Twilight because there was a similarity. But you’d better have something to say. I felt a responsibility to be fascinating.”

On his emotional sight: “The only emotional connection of relevance is with my dog. My relationship with my dog, it’s ridiculous.”

Interesting, interesting … yes … so how about those photos, yes? Check out a few photos (one of them very NSFW) from R. Pattz‘s steamy new Details magazine photospread …

"There's a choice we're making, we're saving our own lives"
Watch: ‘We Are The World: 25 Years For Haiti’

Earlier this month we learned that a new batch of musicians gathered together here in LA, CA to re-record the classic charity anthem We Are The World on the song’s 25th anniversary in order to help raise awareness and much-needed funds for the people of Haiti who are, a month later, still reeling from the deadly earthquake that struck there this year. The music video for We Are The World: 25 Years for Haiti world premiered last night during the broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games … this new version of the song, complete with rap interlude, is now being offered for sale with proceeds going to the people of Haiti. Here are a few screencaps from the just-released video:

The recording of ‘We Are The World 25 For Haiti’ embodies the same enthusiasm, sense of purpose and generosity as the original recording 25 years ago. Through the contributions of the new voices to this rendition of ‘We Are The World,’ and with the help of our partners, the We Are The World Foundation will be committed to transparency and will help further the spirit of activism that was at the heart of the original song and movement. We are developing mechanisms to permit our donors and members of the community to monitor the funds raised, the expenses paid, and the charitable grants funded by the We Are The World Foundation, a newly created not-for-profit organization founded by Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie who have invited Wyclef Jean, Paul Haggis, Randy Phillips, Peter Tortorici and Ambassador Luis Moreno of the Inter-American Development Bank to join them on the board. The Foundation is dedicated to raising money and to making grants to charitable organizations with meaningful and efficient relief and development programs that are responding to the continuing crisis in Haiti.

IMHO, this new version does not surpass the original version of We Are The World … but that’s OK. Times have changes, people and tastes have changed … but the need to help our fellow man is still there, still alive and still a very worthy cause to support. After the jump, check out the video We Are The World: 25 Years for Haiti in full and — if you can spare it — make a donation to the organization to lend as much help as YOU can to the people of Haiti …

O, Canada!!!
The XXI Winter Olympic Games Get Underway

Last night Vancouver, British Columbia welcomed the world to the beautiful country of Canada (the beloved BFF of the United States of America) in spectacular and moving fashion. The Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games were nothing short of amazing. While many people remember the lavish and outrageously expensive Opening Ceremony put on by China for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games (and remember they should, China put almost everything they had into those ceremonies), I was very impressed with the natural beauty, the heartfelt sincerity and masterful talent that was on display during last night’s 2010 Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver Olympic Games. NBC paid very touching tribute to Canada before the ceremonies were broadcast which, in all honesty, made my cheesy ass tear up (especially when we were reminded about how Canada stepped up and took such amazing care of countless US citizens affected by the tragedy of 9/11 … and Canada’s unyielding support of our country in the days long before [and since] the US’s most recent tragedy on that fateful day). Growing up in Detroit, I have a strong affinity for our Canadian friends of the North (who, on Detroit’s border, are only 5 minutes away by bridge and are actually South of Detroit … you have to drive South into Windsor, Ontario from the Ambassador Bridge) and am very happy and proud to see them host these 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Here are some photos and deets from last night’s show … I thought it was very fitting to honor the memory of the Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili who tragically lost his life yesterday afternoon, mere hours before the Games got underway:

The opening ceremony for the 2010 Winter Olympics began on a somber note Friday night as members of the delegation from Georgia mourned the loss of one of their teammates just hours earlier. The seven-athlete delegation, wearing black armbands in tribute to luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, entered BC Place to a standing ovation from the more than 60,000 spectators in attendance. A black ribbon was tied atop the Georgian flag. Kumaritashvili was killed after crashing on a training run at the Whistler Sliding Center. He was set to compete in Saturday’s men’s singles luge event … Some athletes from other countries also donned black armbands during the otherwise upbeat ceremonies that featured lively performances from Canada’s indigenous people, who danced throughout the lengthy introductions of the delegations from the 82 competing nations. A high-flying snowboarder opened the ceremonies by jumping through a giant set of Olympic rings, prompting roars from the crowd inside the domed stadium — a first for a Winter Games. Many of the fans were dressed in red, the prominent color on the Canadian flag. The crowd erupted when Canadian speed skater Clara Hughes, carrying the Canadian flag, led her team into the arena. The Canadians hope to top the medal tally at these games, and count on winning gold in both men’s and women’s hockey, the country’s favorite sport. After a tribute to the athletes, sung by Canadians Bryan Adams and Nelly Furtado, the ceremony turned into a technological spectacle celebrating the country’s diversity and natural beauty. More than 100 screens around the stadium projected video and images to turn the venue into a re-creation of Canada’s constellations, oceans, rivers and forests. Singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan, a British Columbia resident, sang as members of the Alberta Ballet danced among holographic images of the huge trees of an old growth forest. John Furlong, the chief executive of the Vancouver Organizing Committee, told the athletes that they were role models. “You are our beacon of hope in a world so much in need of peace, healing, unity, generosity and inspiration,” he said. “Youth the world over aspire to be just like you.” There was a mechanical glitch when four Canadian sports legends tried to light the Olympic cauldron. Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, speed skating hero Catriona LeMay Doan, NBA star Steve Nash and alpine ski star Nancy Greene each were supposed to light one beam of the structure and then watch the flames rise to meet in the cauldron. But one beam failed to emerge from the floor of BC Place, the first indoor arena to host the opening ceremony. A second cauldron, near Coal Harbour, was lit by Gretzky.

I was very impressed with the level of representation of the First Nation indigenous people of Canada. I was really impressed with the whole show, to be honest. The slow, jazzy performance of O, Canada choked me up … seriously, I’m a sap. Not even the mechanical glitch brought me down, there is so much pageantry and majesty in the Olympic Games … I couldn’t help but succumb. After the jump, check out a few more photos from last night’s spectacular Opening Ceremonies
