Tori Amos sat down to do an interview with Spinner to promote her holiday album Midwinter Graces and shared a few memories from her Xmas celebrations from days of yore. In one particularly vivid memory, Tori remembers heading a children’s choir while she wore a pair of sassy red leather pants:
“Red leather pants was one of the things I remember. I was teaching the children’s choir at Potomac United Methodist’s Church, right outside of Washington, at one point in my teens. I guess I was about 15,16, and I had these great red leather pants. I was really inspired to take on the job because it’s not as if anyone was banging down my door to offer me anything other than playing the bars — which I was doing six nights a week. But I wanted to give something to the kids, and if that was the place that was letting me do it — because of my dad — and they did have a shortage of people who wanted to teach, I thought, ‘OK.’ It was kind of religious music but it didn’t have to be filled with shame. We would pick the material that would make the kids feel good, and I had a really stormin’ choir.”
LOL at “stormin’ choir” … what I think Tori meant to say was “bitchin’ choir” :) Here is part one of Tori‘s colorful interview with Spinner:
Squeeeeeeeeee, I just love her. After the jump, check out part two of Spinner‘s fun interview with the goddess Tori Amos …
Tori Amos is such a pro and a true class act. She has so much experience in the music biz, any young up-and-coming artist would be wise to listen to her advice. She is just fantastic … love her to death!! Great interview, Tori!! Keep ‘em coming!!

I love, love, love Tori, but I’m saddened at how much plastic surgery she has had.
do not understand her. Do not understand her slamming Lada Gaga as a one hit wonder. As an artist it showed her ignorance for a fellow artist and lessened her appeal for me. I want Gaga to show Tori Amos different. Goof.
Thanks so much, Trent! Great interview, Tori is amazing. My one gripe would be her wigs. She needs to spend some serious money on better wigs/wig maintenance. The last few interviews, live performance bits you’ve shared with us, her hair looks beat up. Not that they have to look not like a wig, just “good”.
She’s been telling that pants story since 1987. At one point she even told the press that the reason she changed her name to Tori (from Myra Ellen) is because she was “noTORIous” for wear the red leather pants to teach the choir.
I love ya T, but the freshness fell away 10 years ago.
Tori, u still rock! The quote of yours “I’ve talked about the ancient feminine, and I’ve thought about how to bring it into the commercial world.” was lol, this is why I love u so still. And the story about your brother, was really fun! I still love toast as one of my favorite songs. Happy New Year to u & yours & the band!!! I listened to Amber Waves on replay today, love that song too!
Thanks Trent for this!
Happy New Year to you too!! Your pics were great as always!! I’ve been listening to tear in my hand on replay lately, it makes me think of you too now cuz I remember saying it was one of your faves! And the Neil lines are so for you babe!! His tweets & urs are great too!
