‘The Runaways’ Releases A New Batch Of Promo Photos
Also gets a March release date

Last month we got our first look at the new biopic The Runaways which stars Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie and today we get to see a few new promo pics from the film. The Runaways will be making its film festival debut at the Sundance Film Festival this month but these pics give us a peek at what’s to come:

The Runaways follows two friends, Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands. They fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock impresario Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), who turns the group into an outrageous success and a family of misfits. With its tough-chick image and raw talent, the band quickly earns a name for itself-and so do its two leads: Joan is the band’s pure rock’ n’ roll heart, while Cherie, with her Bowie-Bardot looks, is the sex kitten.

Apparition will open THE RUNAWAYS in over 1400 theaters on March 19. The music-fueled story of the ground-breaking, all girl, teenage rock band of the 1970s stars Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Danielle Riley Keough, Scout Taylor-Compton (TV’s “Arrested Development”), and Michael Shannon. The film marks the first theatrical collaboration between Apparition and River Road Entertainment. Executive Produced by Joan Jett and Produced by River Road and Linson Entertainment, THE RUNAWAYS will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival Sunday, January 24.

Brace yourselves, folks … K. Stew and Dakota will get all kissy-kissy in The Runaways so we can all be on the look-out for that. The image above may be a prelude to the girl’s kissing scene. After the jump, check out a few more promo photos from the film for a better taste of what’s in store …

Without question, The Runaways is one of the most anticipated films to be shown at Sundance this year … but I’m happy to know that the film not only has a release date but a release date that is mere weeks away! I’m not gonna lie … I’m excited for this film. Are any of y’all excited, too?

    I’m looking forward to this movie, too. It’s still kinda weird to think of Dakota Fanning playing a “sex-kitten” role, though…

  2. CHASE says:

    INTENSE! I’m shamefully looking forward to this, too. FML

  3. FYI: Source material is just a titch wrong….. Alia Shawkat (who is in the movie, but not mentioned in the Collider article) is from Arrested Development, not Scout Taylor whats her face…….I should prolly go write this on their board instead though right?

    Uber excited for this film. Sadly I doubt where I will be in March will have it opening weekend…. boo hiss to that!

  4. April says:

    @CHASE lmao .. i agree!

  5. Ama says:

    Awesome :)

    I’m excited to see this movie. Jeez, a lot of good movies are coming out this year. Which I guess, is something I should be happy about. I just wish I had the money to go see them all right after they come out ^^;

  6. M_Deezy says:

    Woot Woot I’m totally excited for this!

  7. Jennifer says:

    Who will be playing Lita Ford?

  8. Jenn says:

    It is still so weird to see Dakota all grown up! I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that!

  9. nisha says:

    wow just wow the photos are amazing and i can barely conatin my excitement. this just made my day and dakota and kristen just look so fierce and edgy. thanks for posting

  10. Diana says:

    Aaaah, she’s only like 15, maybe 16? It’s just weird b/c she is my little sister’s age and I just can’t think of her as a “sex kitten”.

  11. Ashley says:

    Hey Trent,
    This doesn’t have anything to do with this particular post, but I just wanted to know why you linked to that Scott Baio story referring to him as a “racist idiot?” Maybe what he did wasn’t in the best taste, but I don’t understand the need to pull the “race card” over an unflattering photo of Michelle Obama. Personally, I just feel like when people scream “racist” over every little thing, the word loses it’s credibility and people fail to recognize more important issues involving race when they come up. Thank you

    • @Ashley — Having read enough of Baio’s tweets and heard enough of his interviews, I am basing my opinion in this instance on my experience with how I interpret his views on things. It is my opinion alone, it’s okay if you don’t agree.

  12. J says:

    I guess this could be quite good a film to be honest. It will actually decide where Twilight girl has any real talent cause sure as hell doesn’t show any of it in Twilight. Dakota Fanning is a great actress- i haven’t seen any of her more recent ‘grown up’ films, but she was outstanding as a young one.
    I like how the promo pics keep that sense of time period aswell. Costumes and hair is spot on.

  13. Erica says:

    Dakota has shown to be a good actress. Unfortunately it didn’t show in New Moon. Maybe those movies just suck the acting ability out of the actors. They are horrible, but my 9 yr old loves them.

  14. nicole says:

    i think im the only person that isnt excited for this movie….2 of the main actresses are 2 i cant stand.

  15. Joan says:

    @Diana, the Runaways WERE teenagers!

  16. Mr. Gyllenhaal says:

    I can not wait to see this movie!! It looks AWESOME!!!

  17. I’m excited to check out their pants. Seriously, their pants. Haha.

  18. shellslove says:

    Maybe it’s b/c her look is right, but I would’ve loved to see if Taylor Momsen could have fit into Dakota Fanning’s role and done a good job. She gets a bad wrap, but I blame that on the black eyeliner. I’d love to know if she’s got acting ‘chops’ outside of gg.

  19. Laura says:

    I was about to comment and say that I didn’t think Dakota Fanning was sexy enough to play Cherie and then read the comment above about Taylor Momsen and reconsidered; at least Fanning has some intelligence/talent.
