The Great ‘Escapist’
The TV Guide

As per usual, Sunday turned out to be a laaaaaaaazy day here at our humble abode. I kinda got sucked into reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon (the current selection of The Turtle Party: Book Club) and found that I couldn’t put it down. I am SO loving this book. I managed to get thru the first 5 parts of the book with only one part left ’til the end:

As a comic book fan, I love the inclusion of some tales of the fictional superhero The Escapist. As a fan of literature, I just love Chabon‘s writing. Kavalier & Clay is one of those books that you want to read all the time and then get sad about when you’re almost finished. I’m happy to know there are many other Chabon books out there to read … he has won a new fan in me. Incidentally, this week’s meeting of The Turtle Party: Book Club has been postponed until next week, just in case you’re reading along at home.

Not sure what’s going on today but I’m sure something fun will come along … or I’ll just finish Kavalier & Clay, cuz I know the next time I sit down with that book I’m gonna read it ’til the end.

I read this book my freshman year of college and absolutely loved it! I’m glad you’re enjoying it now. The whole book is fantastic.

Make sure to read “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh” if you haven’t already. It’s absolutely one of my top 10 books of all time! (and don’t let the crappy movie version with Sienna Miller deter you! The book is wonderful!)

I am reading the Yiddish Policeman’s Union right now and it is also really awesome. And the Cohen Brothers are making it into a movie, which I’m sure ill be incredible.

this is one of the few books that has made me cry while reading it…on the bus during my morning commute.

also, check out the graphic novel “they escapists”, it’s amazing!

Michael Chabon is pretty much the best writer alive in my book (tho I also love Michael Cunningham). You must make time for Chabon’s Mysteries of Pittsburgh – I read it way back in the day when it first came out and it’s been a fave ever since. Also do make time for Yiddish Policeman’s Union. I’m so glad you love Chabon… me too! I just bought Gentlemen of the Road but haven’t gotten to it yet.
