An historic dual portrait of Prince William and Prince Harry has been unveiled in the UK as it went on display in the National Portrait Gallery earlier today. Artist Nicky Philipps was commissioned to paint the portrait in a series of sittings thruout 2008 & 2009 and the final product was unveiled just today. Check it out:

The first ever joint portrait of princes William and Harry went on display at the National Portrait Gallery today. Artist Nicky Philipps was commissioned to paint the brothers, who sat for a series of sessions in 2008 and 2009. William, 27, and Harry, 25, have been depicted together in paintings before, but always with other people. The painting shows the pair in Clarence House, the London home of their father Charles, the Prince of Wales. Among the previous works of Philipps, 45, is a painting of best-selling author Ken Follett. In 2007, Sergei Pavlenko painted Harry and William with the Queen, Prince Charles, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Cornwall to commemorate Harry’s graduation from Sandhurst. It was the first time a Royal group portrait featured Camilla. Philipps attended the unveiling with Sandy Nairne, director of the National Portrait Gallery.

What a fantastic portrait! The princes really do look very regal in their uniforms and Philipps did a great job of capturing their personalities, I think. I’m sure most of these official portraits have the same look to them but this one in particular reminds me of the presidential portraits that hang in the White House here in the US.
