John Mayer Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine
”Blowing me off is the new sucking me off!”

John Mayer, musician and 140-character quip aficionado, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In his coverstory interview, Mayer talks about his split with Jennifer Aniston (admitting that he “never really gotten over” the split and that it was “one of the worst times of [his] life”), his difficulty with dating these days and his opinions on the affairs of Tiger Woods … among other things. Mayer tweeted last night, “Just read my Rolling Stone cover article. I’m still not sure if I would want to hang out with me.” which is a sentiment that I think speaks volumes of what we can expect from this Rolling Stone coverstory. Here is his shirtless coverphoto and some excerpts from the article:

John Mayer may be the king of the confessional Twitter, but all his 140-character missives about spectacular bowel movements don’t measure up to the explosion of deeply personal details he reveals to Erik Hedegaard in the new issue of Rolling Stone, on stands tomorrow. The 32-year-old singer-guitarist admits he prefers Continuum to his 2009 disc Battle Studies (”I know that I’m supposed to say that my newest is the best one. Bullshit,” he says), that he hasn’t stopped thinking about his split with ex-girlfriend Jennifer Aniston (”I’ve never really gotten over it. It was one of the worst times of my life”) and that his sex life has become an endless loop of new girls rejecting him in clubs (”Blowing me off is the new sucking me off!”). Mayer’s in the midst of a massive 10-year record deal and enjoys the pleasures of late-night weed-and-video-game sessions, as well as his $20 million vintage watch collection, but what he truly wants, he tells Hedegaard, is to finally find a a female companion. But not just any girlfriend — Mayer is after “the Joshua Tree of vaginas.” “I’ll be happy when I close out this life-partner thing,” he says. “Think of how much mental capacity I’m using to meet the right person so I can stop giving a fuck about it.” Grab the new issue for Mayer’s full advice for Tiger Woods (”I have masturbated myself out of serious problems in my life”) and more on his journey from bedroom guitar player to the most angst-ridden playboy in rock.

No doubt, John Mayer is a talented guitar player … it’s the public persona that turns me off. Even with his ability to display his wit with ease, it just seems so unappealing when he takes his talents into doucheland. The man is incredibly smart, insanely talented and yet … I’m not a huge fan. I can appreciate that he likes to have fun and isn’t all that serious and is really into enjoying his life … I cannot fault him for that. After the jump, check out a few photos from Mayer‘s RS photospread — for those interested, there are more shirtless pics ahead …

I like the B&W photos, the first one looks very Elvis Presley. I understand from many of my friends that Mayer‘s music is actually very good … I’ve never really gotten into it because his public persona has made me so uninterested in checking it out in the first place. Ah well. Any Mayer fans out there … what do y’all think of these photos?

  2. jennie says:

i am in the camp who finds him funny, but i hate his music. Now dont get me wrong he is talented, he went to berkley so he knows what he is talking about, i just find his songs are to cheesy for me

  3. Tracy says:

Ugh he should never ever speak and only sing. He is so crass.

  4. Anna says:

I Love this man. Love his music and love his personality. He is not afraid to be who he is and he certainly isnt boring… He is probably one of the greatest musicians of our time. He is different and I love him. Plus, he is insanely hot.

  5. M_Deezy says:

I love love love JM! Everything about him! His doucheyness just adds some appeal to him for me.. plus u gotta take most of the stuff he says with a grain of salt in the serious factors.Apart from his song “your body is a wonderland” i have to say his music is simply amazing!

  6. CB says:

“The Joshua Tree of Vaginas”? WTF does that even mean? Half of the tripe he spews from his wanna-be beat poet pie hole don’t even make sense. He’s deceptively stupid, in that he says things that *sound* intelligent, but aren’t. At all.

  7. Christi says:

I love his music. It’s great for tuning out everything at work, in the car, or by the pool. It also helps that he looks like my ex…hell – a cleaner version of my ex.

  8. Amanda says:

I can’t stand him or his music, but he is definitely a fine looking man…

  9. Kris says:

I have been a fan of John Mayer’s music for many years, having stumbled across it months before his first song hit the airwaves. I’ve watched him morph from articulate, slightly awkward young man to his own best version of a douchbag. I know some of it is for effect, but it does get tiring. He’s smart, insanely witty, and incredibly talented. I still love his music but tend to bypass anything medium where his mouth is open and he’s not singing.

  10. Kristi says:

He’s looking off to the left in every picture…maybe this is his “good side”. Anyway, one pic would have been enough, they all look the same…+

  11. Jenn too says:

    He’s awesome…I’d totally do him!

  12. s.d. says:

I agree, he’s ugly as hell! He makes Robert Pattinson look like a dreamboat!

  13. Kelly says:

American’s don’t seem to get him. When John’s in NZ or OZ, he totally hits the mark in his interviews & appearances … he’s hilarious and has a thinking persons sense of humour. That’s hard for some …

  14. Haley says:

I think he’s funny. I think the whole point of everything he says that projects that he takes himself seriously is deliberately ironic because he doesnt; which is the punch line. As if you dont know someone like that in your life – a self proclaimed bitch or asshole that doesnt hold back or pretend and yet people think the world of them. He’s funny and his music is the polar opposite of his humor, which is refreshing.

  15. Kendra says:

@Kelly – Yeah..Us stoopid Uhmericans jusss don’t understanded..It’s nawt that wee git it and jusss don’t lyke it or nuthin’!

Give me a fucking break! There have been lots of people commenting who think he’s funny..Some just don’t..It’s not a nationality thing..It’s called an opinion..

  16. Verodemort says:

He’s a libra, men who are known to be cocky but his music really endears him to me :) Continuum is a GREAT album from beginning to end, emotional and real and so when he says questionable things, my brain doesn’t think he’s douchey, it thinks he’s funny and quirky! I think his music enables me to see past his flaws, just like Madonna. She’s a total hag but she’s got some great music hahahaha.

  17. laura says:

    haley is absolutely right.

but continuum is better, i agree with him on that.

  18. baroness says:

Is there a new definition of “Douche”? and how is he douchey? I always thought he had a really smart dry sense of humor?

  19. anna says:

Wow what a lucky girl…once she is found, he can stop giving a fuck about her.

Although I have been a fan of John Mayer’s for years (before I knew what a blog even was) and will always listen to and appreciate his music, I have decided to expect ridiculousness when reading about his personal life. It almost seems like he has made a joke out of his life, which is funny, but is he laughing anymore?

Oh and is the Joshua Tree of vaginas is from Entourage?

  20. Stephanie says:

I think JM is great….sometimes he ventures a little too far into douchey territory…but he is a self-aware douchebag. He is just being an arse and I guess not everyone gets it :(
