Jennifer Lopez Tells ‘Latina’ Magazine She Deserves An Oscar
“How dope would it have been if I would’ve won the Oscar"

Okay, I’m gonna need y’all do do me a favor. Please make sure you are not snacking or nibbling on anything, nor are chewing on any pens or pencils while reading this post. I don’t want any of y’all to choke to death on the ridiculousness of Jennifer Lopez‘s comments in the new issue of Latina magazine. J. Lo is featured on the cover and in the pages of the newest issue of the mag and in her coverstory interview, she talks about how shocked she was not to be nominated for an Academy Award in the film El Cantante … you’re not choking, right? Read on …

“I feel like I had that [Oscar-worthy role] in El Cantante, but I don’t even think the Academy members saw it. I feel like it’s their responsibility to do that, to see everything that’s out there, everything that could be great … Well, it is a little bit frustrating. It was funny; when the Oscars were on, I had just given birth on the 22nd, and the Oscars, I think, were a day or two later. I was sitting there with my twins — I couldn’t have been happier — but I was like, ‘How dope would it have been if I would’ve won the Oscar and been here in my hospital bed accepting the award?’ ‘Thank you so much! I just want to thank the Academy!’ But we joked about it. It’s all good.”

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I’m, um, sorry but … BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! I can’t, um, even really think properly right now … HAHAHAHAHAHAHA … but after the jump, check out a few more nuggets from J. Lo‘s interview with Latina magazine …

On Her Feelings While Seeing Former Romantic Interests Featured in Her Work:
“Exposed? Vulnerable? Do I cringe? [Laughs] No, no, it’s a literal snapshot. Every one of my albums is very spot-on with who I was at the time. I’ve always been a person who is guided by my gut, my heart, and I love that about myself. I think the day I don’t do that is when I lose my way. I can’t regret the things I did in the past, like putting somebody in a video that I was with. Who cares? I think people relate to me because they know that I’m not being phony.”

On Past Relationships:
I think I was very focused on what I was doing in my life at the time. No one tells you that you have to work so hard at it. There’s a certain notion of the fairy tale that you talk about in your head, like, “If this is not working, then it’s not working, we’re not meant to be together.” But you don’t find Prince Charming where everything is perfect—like you’re never gonna fight, you’re never gonna disagree, you’re never gonna have opposing points of view. That’s ridiculous, and it doesn’t exist. You get to a point where you say, “I need to work on myself—and if I love this person, I’m gonna work on myself, and if he loves me, he’s gonna work on himself.”

Marriage to Marc Anthony:
“That’s how I know that this relationship is worth it, because a lot of people walk away too easily. But to take that step and actually get married—and I’ve done it three times, and two times were, you know, not good for me or for them—I’m gonna take it seriously. We’re gonna go through hard times, but we’re gonna work through them, and that’s what we try to do. It’s easy to throw your hands up, but those things leave scars.” “Everything is great about my marriage. First and foremost, we love each other, truly love each other in a way that’s very deep and meaningful, not in a superficial sort of way. There’s a deep respect, admiration and love for each other. We honestly believe that we make each other better people…We force each other to be better, and I think in a relationship, that’s how it should be. You shouldn’t be with somebody if he makes you feel less than who you are.”

On Fame:
“Your world becomes smaller, so yeah, it is a weird reality. You stop doing things like having a key in your pocket, opening the door for yourself because you become so busy. All of a sudden, somebody takes that over for you. You do lose touch a little bit; anybody who says they don’t is a liar. Your life is not like a person who goes to work, opens their door, goes to the grocery store. I lived that life for 20-something years, and now my life is different, but I have my foot in both worlds. I have found myself lately saying it needs to be more simple. I can’t have all these people around, especially once you have children. I’ve been able to always keep a good perspective. I’ve never, thank God, gone completely off into the stratosphere. I’m not saying I haven’t had my moments [laughs], but I’m always able to come back.”

On the Future:
“The experience of living is very important for an artist, for somebody who has to express those emotions. I feel I’m about to leave my whole life behind and go to the next thing. I really mean that: Bye-bye, house; bye-bye, everything. Next thing, here I come. Let’s go. Maybe a year and a half ago, I wasn’t ready, but now I am. There’s no tentativeness, no doubt, no fear.”

OMG … I’m not even kidding … I wasn’t even eating or chewing on anything and I still almost choked to death. Bless Jennifer Lopez‘s little heart, she’s a pistol ain’t she? LOL.

OMG.. One sentence said it all, “You stop doing things like having a key in your pocket, opening the door for yourself because you become so busy”. Too busy to open a door? I already feel sorry for her kids, if she cant open her own door! Frankly, I just heard one SLAM on her future. Which by the way she is ready too….” I feel I’m about to leave my whole life behind and go to the next thing. I really mean that: Bye-bye, house; bye-bye, everything. Next thing, here I come”. Is she now also saying she is ready to die? Pfft what a joke.
The only thing she did not say is, i deserve the oscar because i’m latin. Will the last American please remember to grab the flag on the way out ?

  2. Dave says:

Yeah, you’re 40 and you write songs about shoes, scary talented.

  3. Chantilli says:

lol…………Who does that!!!!!!!!!!!!!………….come on JLo what is wrong with you. You can barley Sing

  4. Vikki says:

I’m going to have to defend J.LO the tiniest bit. I remember seeing her in Selena, and I thought, ‘Boy, that girl can act.’ After she went Hollywood, got into music, dancing, fashion and crappy romantic comedies, I think she stopped really trying to become a better actress and just assumed she was wonderful. She spread herself too thin, and other things became more important. I do think she’s a solid actress–nowhere near Oscar worthy, mind you–but her latest movies certainly have not reflected it.

  5. @di from NYC says:

she didn’t write any songs, she purchase that song about the shoes

that is another reason i can’t respect her or most artists because all they do is hire producers to create the music and buy the lyrics, they are basically singers for hire while other people we never see are the REAL artists

which is why i respect lady gaga even though i kind of don’t like her

artists like Prince, MJ, Gaga, Lionel Riche, you have to respect cause they put in the work

i doubt J lo has ever actually sat down and worked on her craft like great actors and musicians do, its time she goes away

Wow. I mean yes she’s pretty misguided here but is this really what the media has stooped to? Sure, make an opinionated comment, but to overzealously attack her for being hopeful and perhaps too candid, it’s kind of sad. You repeatedly used hyperboles when it’s honestly not that shocking. I hope she never reads this because even though I’m not even kind of a fan of her’s, its just rude to make such comments as if you have the right to do so. Sure, I am all for free speech, but what ever happened to courtesy? Your mother would be ashamed.

    • @rob r — Please, if someone is seriously offended by the joking around here then they prolly don’t need to be on the Internet … if you think this is “overzealous” then you’re prolly not prepared with some other stuff out there.

  7. rob r says:

Why would I be offended? I’m disappointed more than anything. Diverting to other harsh writing is hardly an excuse for your own lack of cleverness. It’s easy to cruelly make fun of someone and laugh at them (see: 8-year-olds)—it’s difficult to make witty jokes that would allow even the subject of the joke to laugh at themselves (see: actual comedians). Please, don’t dish out judgment if you can’t take it in return.

Not her biggest fan. I agree with many here she STOPPED trying a while back. I did see El Cantante and I am from PR. A lot of ppl were pissed at how Hector was portrayed. There was very little of his life and music and much about the drugs. According to some of the ppl who were portrayed in the movie her role was given greater importance than it really was in real life. And while her portrayal was good, she didn’t do anything challenging as an actress in this role. She is from the area and can do the accent attitude etc. I do think that this interview is being a bit overblown but then again she got us talking. No such thing as bad press. Desperate move i would say.

  10. ygomez says:

Bunch of haaaaaaaaaaterz…come on give the girl a freaking break.. i don’t think she’s a great actress but her role in ‘El Cantante’ was “well-performed”..don’t think it deserves an Oscar but let me ask you something if one of you had played any role in a movie or school play, won’t you expect to get som ekind of recognition? She’s only being real.. she was wishing for an Oscar and she said it as oppossed to other people that try to played it off by saying “oh, i couldn’t believe it when i heard my name” when all they”ve done is think about how much they deserve the prize. For instance do you REALLY think Penelope Cruz deserves all the freaking nominations she’s had? be honest…….

  11. Jwhi says:

People are totally taking her statements the wrong way. I honestly don’t think Jennifer is being arrogant or haughty by saying her performance was Oscar-worthy. There’s nothing wrong with praising your own work, while keeping your ego in check. There’s been many times that I’ve worked hard at something, or competed at something and given it my all, only to be overlooked. It’s very frustrating to know for a fact that you DID do a better job than someone else, but they are getting all the glory for a lesser quality of work. I’ve personally seen Jennifer’s performance in ‘El Cantante,’ and long before I even read her comments, my wife and I both agreed that it was seriously overrated and sadly overlooked. So was ‘Selena.’ Contrary to some remarks, Jennifer is a terriffic actress. I hope she can get more roles like these in the future and, hopefully, actually get a shot at that Oscar, or at least get a nomination. Kudos to her for her self-confidence, and bah humbug to those who are criticizing her.

  12. Jwhi says:

    I meant “underrated,” not “overrated”

  13. Leoh says:

on El Cantante she did great; if J-Hudson, Halle Berry, Reese Whiterspoon got one for weaker performances Jennifer deserved a nod.

BTW she shouldn’t ever said such thing.. made her sound way to brat
