Jennifer Lopez Does ‘Elle’ Magazine, Again

"I'm a more heightened me if anything. Hyper J.Lo."
January 8th, 2010

Jennifer Lopez is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Elle magazine where she explains to Elle’s faithful readers that she is just too much J. Lo for you. As you may recall, earlier this week she was quoted in Latina magazine as being *shocked* that she was not honored with an Academy Award for her work in El Cantante and now in Elle she explains how much of a hyperbeing she is now that she’s a wife and a mother (which is a warning to all those 20-year old actresses lining up to take her place). Yes, I don’t think J. Lo wants for any self-esteem. Here are a few excerpts from her Elle coverstory interview:

On why she never considered in vitro fertilization, like her character in The Back-Up Plan:
“When it comes to family and relationships, I’m quite traditional. Just because of the way I was raised. And I also believe in God and I have a lot of faith in that, so I just felt like you don’t mess with things like that. And I guess deep down I really felt like either this is not going to happen for me or it is. You know what I mean? And if it is, it will. And if it’s not, it’s not going to.”

On the merit of her romantic comedies:
“I think Maid in Manhattan and Monster-in-Law are very layered movies. And that’s why they’re so successful. People don’t like shitty romantic comedies. Nothing that’s shitty is going to make $100 million.”

On hosting a dinner for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor:
“She didn’t realize what she was going to symbolize. And it’s always scary to be thrown into it–that’s what I felt like when I did Selena. You’re thrown out there, and all of a sudden you’re not anonymous. You are now known. And that’s a lot to handle. It’s scary at first. Then you get used to it. And so she was in that moment of her life where it’s just like, What the hell? Everybody’s clapping for me. People are writing about me, talking about me, I’m on TV. She was just a judge in New York.”

On betrayal:
“This is something I haven’t been through once in my life. This is something I’ve been through a few times in my life. Where you really have your eggs in one basket and that breach happens and you know you should go but you’re still in love and you just don’t know what to do. It hits you because it’s not like you’re a cheater, and a liar, and I hate you, and you’re no good, and I’m leaving. It’s not that. It’s like, I’m tormented. Even though you’ve done this and I know it, I still don’t know what to do. I know I should go, but I don’t want to. And that’s why it’s such a fucked-up thing.”

On competing with twenty-something pop idols as a 40-year-old mom:
“This is what I do—what, because I have kids and a husband now I’m not supposed to be
me? I’m a more heightened me if anything. Hyper J.Lo. Everything I wanted before, I want twice as much now. And that doesn’t mean material things; it means to explore more, to think more. Being an artist doesn’t start because you’re 21, and it doesn’t end because you’re 51. You are who you are until the day you die.”

Oh J. Lo, I still love you. In this biz, you’ve got to have confidence (or, at the very least, you have to feign confidence) and she clearly has her fair share. While I, honestly, find her comments about the Academy Award she was robbed of humorous, I can’t really fault her for exuding all the confidence in the world. After all, she does have a new crop of 20-somethings nipping at her heels … if she falters, it’s all over. But anyways, after the jump check out a photo from J. Lo’s Elle photospread which shows those 20-something actresses what they have to contend with …

Do your thing, Ms. Lopez. Delusions of grandeur are not only commonplace in Hollywood, they are a survival tactic. Best of luck with everything.

  1. Margie Says:

She reminds me of Tyra-always steering the conversation back to herself.

  2. ausettofegypt Says:

i thought she hated being called J. Lo. but now it looks likes she is referring to herself as it again.

  3. Kendra Says:

    She’s so lame..

  4. janelle Says:

@ausettofegypt – i was going to say the same thing lol. @margie – couldn’t agree more!
i have to agree with trent, that she’s exuding confidence. but she seems more self-centered, if anything. not a fan of hers at all.

  5. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

She is so full of herself and that is why I love her!

  6. maribella Says:

i wish she had that madonna-quality of being able to change with the times. but unfortunately, that isn’t the case. she should concentrate on acting, IMO… and maybe a little charity work.

  7. JenT Says:

“Nothing that’s shitty is going to make $100 million.”

    my favorite part!

  8. nicole Says:

i think shes realized that the name JLO isnt going anywhere and has just excepted it.
and that cover is soooo much better then the Latina mag.
Jennifer should just go into modeling. she’d kill it there.

  9. heather Says:

puke. i do. not. like. her.

  10. CB Says:

“I think Maid in Manhattan and Monster-in-Law are very layered movies.”
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! And I thought her sense of Oscar entitlement was hysterical! What a joke.
Also, is it just me, or is she comparing the appointment of the first Latina Supreme Court Justice with her getting the lead role in “Selena”? Really, J.Lo? Wow… just…. wow.

  11. krissy Says:

WOW! I can.not.believe that she said that Maid in Manhattan and Monster in Law were layered movies??? What is she smoking? I am so repulsed by her ego. I think that she doesn’t understand that during the Bennifer phase people stopped liking her because her ego out shown her talent. She obviously hasn’t learned her lesson.

  12. CHASE Says:

Puhleez! Her career is going nowhere. Beyonce has took her spot and she is no longer relevant.

  13. Kitti Says:

Go J.Lo! Show those bitches who’s the Queen!

  14. Madsme Says:

@CB…my thoughts exactly. “Nothing that’s shitty is going to make $100 million”…um Twilight, anyone?! I liked those movies as much as the next person, but there’s no doubt that they were shitty…they were just addictive shit!

  15. Cinnamon Says:

    She’s suffered betrayal? Wow.

Do you think she’s capable of taking responsibility for the betrayal Dayanara and MA’s other kids went through at her hands?

  16. Kat Says:

I freakin love her. I think she is amazing and I enjoy her singing and movies.

  17. dana j Says:

@ cinnamon: exactly.Marc was married to a FREAKING MISS UNIVERSE WINNER who had two of his zombie children and he had the nerve to cheat on her TWICE. however I don’t think he was cheating on Dayonara with Jen. the way they say it is he filed for divorce from dayonarra, realized he truly loved Jen, she was finally single they reconnected and didn’t make a move until he got officially divorced. what I think is bullshit it how he gag ordered his ex to NEVER speak about their marriage, him or Jen in any way shape or form. he’s an ass, a zombie rotting flesh uncrusted ass but an ass none the less.

  18. Mary Says:

There’s nothing wrong with having a little humility. She sounds so desperate to keep some stupid status. I feel sorry for her.

  19. Ella Says:

Whoa whoa whoa. Did she compare herself to Sonia Sotomayor? WOW J.Lo. New level.
