Hit Me With Your Best WORST Shot
The TV Guide

Blah … yesterday was not the funnest day for me. David took it upon himself to schedule physicals with our new doctor and yesterday was my turn up to bat. I’m a relatively healthy person who has never, ever been seriously ill so it is very easy for me to NEVER go to the doctor ;) But, and David is right about this, it’s very good practice to check in with a medical professional to make sure that everything is OK:

My new doctor has this cute illustration hanging in the exam room which is a parody of Norman Rockwell‘s famous painting Before The Shot (which, funny enough, used to hang in the exam room of my pediatrician when I was a kid). After going thru all the poking, prodding and probing required of a male physical, I also had to give up about 6 vials of blood for testing and had to get a tetanus shot. Blah … ’twas not fun but is necessary.

I’m planning to do much more fun stuff today. My friend Josh Z and I are going the Under the Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe exhibit at Gallery 1988 and then I’m planning to meet up with Kirsten and Darion for dinner. Today should be much more fun than yesterday but, as unfun as it was, I highly urge y’all to get medical check-ups if you can.

You did the DMV and the doctor’s office BOTH this week? Somebody needs a Pinkberry reward! (Or at least a Chick-fil-a!)

I hate blood and I hate needles, too. I would donate blood but I can’t bring myself to do it. It just grosses me out.

Thanks Trent for your post! The best way to stay healthy is with annual check-ups – as much as we all try to avoid them, preventative healthcare is clearly the way to avoid future problems…good for you!

Right on lady surgeon! Thanks Trent for posting this – I hope it will encourage others to schedule annual appointments with their primary care providers as well. While it is not always fun or convenient in the short term, the long term benefits of preventative care are well worth it! Good job :)

    • @lady surgeon & @nurse E — Thanks for your comments. Trust me, I did NOT want to go but the minor discomfort was over very quickly and the peace of mind of knowing what is going on with my health is really comforting.

What am I not seeing? Why is the picture a “parody” of the Rockwell original? I keep looking for the spoof or satire, but am not seeing it. I may just be too tired…. or my eyes have gotten too bad. :)

You are quite lucky to have David around to tell you to get your butt to the Doctor’s. If we have the means, we should all go once a year. I hope you continue to get your blood (especially PSA test) done annually.

six vials?! yow! worse than the big ‘cough’.

    Thanks Trent!

uuhhhh, yeah, “nurses”- the best *preventative* care and the best way to stay healthy is to eat well and exercise, which most americans don’t do. seeing a doctor isn’t some sort of magical preventative thing- it obviously gives you a better chance of finding out about health issues while you can do something about them, but YOU actually have a much better chance of preventing health issues by not being lazy about your body and what you do to it. most people could definitely stand to be more proactive about their own health and stop acting as though doctors take care of us. the whole eat-like-shit, never exercise and hope nothing happens to us regimen that so many people are on is the thing that causes all of us major problems in the end. i’m not hating on going to the doctor, but i wish people would truly care more and take better care of themselves to begin with. None of this has anything to do with Trent, just the types of people I work with every day who do not take responsibility for their health.
