Dakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart Participate In A Sundance Q&A
Painful Expression

As we all should know by now, The Runways biopic debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this past Sunday night but today we learn that principal stars Kristen Stewart (who plays Joan Jett) and Dakota Fanning (who plays Cherie Currie) participated in a short Q&A with fans and reporters after the film’s Sundance premiere and we get to watch a short video clip from it:

I must warn you, tho, K. Stew‘s painfully obvious uncomfortableness with public speaking makes it very difficult to watch this video clip without your wanting to cringe every other second. Her fidgety demeanor and odd manner really makes it truly painful to watch … which is exactly why you gotta watch. Check it out after the jump …

Yeesh. She’s bad, huh? I’m actually kinda glad the clip is only a little over a minute long because I don’t even know if I could watch any more. I’m so surprised that a prolific actress like Stewart has this much difficulty speaking in front of people. Dakota handled herself very well, on the contrary. She’s a pro. Poor Kristen is such a mess in this clip, I bet she LOATHES situations like this. She needs to just slow down … talking less like a speedfreak would do wonders for her, methinks. No wonder she always looks a mess at public events. OY!!

Seriously, this WAS painful to watch. Dakota is a cutie, and handles herself very well, but Kristen is just horrific. The drug thing wouldn’t surprise me at all. And she really cannot act. I’ve tried watching her…and that’s even more painful than watching THIS was.

Yeesh. The poor thing. I LIKE her and I think she is a great actress. I would like to see her in more movies. I don’t think she is a drug addict, I think she is just really nervous. Plus she kept on looking up and seeing them which freaked her out entirely. You know I’ve watched a lot of actors and actresses in interviews, and they are like “I’m seriously so shy” – but when they act, there is a small film crew and they are with them (shooting the movie) for so long, it’s like they’re a little family- and they get used to that. It’s so different from being on stage in front of millions of people! Like broadway or public speaking. Sure, they get watched by millions of people- but only when the movie is already done! I think a lot of people find it hard to make the distinction.

Lol…my bad Trent. I didn’t mean that you were hating on her acting…it was other comments I was referring to. I only mentioned your name with the J. Biel thing in case you wanted to confirm or slam my reference.

    @Andrea
No she wasn’t. If Kristen had a mic attached to her shirt, she never would’ve continued grabbing it and pulling it with her hand directly at the point she’d been speaking into. She’d be causing major sound issues if she did.

  5. JJ says:

Who cares? I´d still fuck her brains out!

aww kristen <3 honestly its this kinda stuff that makes me like her more the fact that shes not a famewh*re who's cocky and all that.. she is just shy and awkward and nervous like any teenage girl would be. i also have really bad anxiety and this is SO how i would be acting in front of such a huge crowd not everyone is a perfectionist at giving speeches get over it people. and to those that keep b*tching about how its her job as an actress and she shouldn't be all nervous and awkward, uhmm no it isnt. just because she loves acting for the simple art aspect of it and not the fame as many other fame attention seeking actresses her age do, then its completely normal that she's not perfect at giving speeches. and what about this one really fameous actress from back in the day that would have such bad anxiety that she would throw up backstage before going on to perform. Kristen does acting because she loves it and i respect her that much more for that .

WATCH HER OLD INTERVIEWS AND HER OLD PRESS SHE IS NOT THE SAME GIRL SHE IS NOT SCARED TO TALK IN PUBLIC it has nothing to do with fear or anything else, there is something that is different from when she was a teen to now!

  8. Erica says:

ps watch the ben interview from E! for that kid movie i think she was a spy or something in. SHE WAS LOVING THAT INTERVIEW!!!!!! SHE LOVED PRESS

im just saying there is a change from when she was starting out and now…. think about it

“If you can’t handle the spotlight get out”? Really? What if she LOVES acting, but hates the fact that she needs to be in front of people? Should she give up her passion because we have a NEED to be in actors’ face? Seriously, we act like it’s their DUTY to dance for us simply because they’re actors. They have a job like everyone else, and yes, public speaking and interviews have become a part of that now (as opposed to what it was like in the beginning), that by no means that they should ‘learn to love it or leave’. It’s our attitude of privilege as a fan that angers most people in the business, as if we’re ENTITLED to them being who we want them to be. I think aside from the Twilight series Kristen is a fine actress and just has a fear of public speaking like a lot of others. Bravo for her for at least attempting to face her fear.

  10. Kevin says:

She’s not nervous… She’s stoned out of her mind!!

  11. speaking from experience says:

pot + interview = awkward for everyone… keep it for when you’re at home girl.

  12. Kimm says:

HAVE ANY OF YOU THOUGHT THAT SHE HAS BEEN DOING MOVIES AND PROMOTIONS NON-STOP THAT SHE MAY BE JUST TIRED. She’s not a crackhead……..that’s really stupid to even say. Who gives a flying fart if she does smoke pot. Plenty of famous people are dying from prescription drugs. Pot isn’t a problem if she is smoking it. Get real people!! Drugs do not discriminate. Remember President Clinton? I bet most you or your parents voted for Clinton back in the day! I bet you all believed him when he said he didn’t inhale. Oh that’s right, he was in college when he experimented with pot. In his younger days. Like maybe around Kristen’s age. More than likely she is just simply tired. I’d smoke pot to if I had the hectic schedule she does. Lighten up on this girl…..my god!!

  13. Nate says:

Lay off the K-Stew bashing. If you watch old interviews of Kim Basinger, she does the same thing, and she was diagnosed with a severe panic disorder. Kristen Stewart may very well have the same panic anxiety when put into these type of situations.

  14. Sheena says:

Kristin is hired due to her ACTING ability, not her public speaking. As you know, she’s relatively new to the Hollywood scene, and I’m sure that it has been a whirlwind for her. She plays an amazing Bella, and by the looks of it, a great Joan Jett. But, that doesn’t mean she also has the skills to do large public interviews. As we know, the media takes every word you say and finds some way to twist it around. That added to her inexperience at this makes it easy to understand why she is so nervous and fidgety. At least she isn’t plastic like many of the other young stars out there today. She’ll get the hang of it, just give her some time and lay off her with the drug accusations. She could very well take drugs here or there but I sincerely doubt this is in any way related to her nervousness during big interviews.

  15. Melissa says:

I give her a lot of credit for doing what she’s doing. Spoken from someone who suffers from anxiety and has been held back in many things due to the onset of a panic attack, it is very difficult at times. Putting herself out there knowing that she will feel uneasy is very admirable, and will in time hopefully get through the physical things that happens to her when she’s on stage. I recently saw her on regis and kelly and the she kept touching her forehead and throat are definite signs of her going through an anxiety attack. Moving around and not making sense is also part of it. She is definitely facing her fears . You have to remember that she became a success really fast, which I’m sure wasn’t expected.

  16. Melissa says:

To answer everyones questions about how she even got into acting , is that she was perfect for what they were looking for… If you ever watched all her films ..she always plays that part… outcast, on drugs, desperate, lonely, …she may not be that way in comfortable surroundings but I’m sure she shines when being filmed for those parts. She can relate to alot of the characters because I’m sure that’s how she feels when she’s in a crowd of people whose attention is on her. Just because your an actor doesn’t mean you want everyone’s attention.. some just do it because they truly love acting…
