Dakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart Participate In A Sundance Q&A
Painful Expression
As we all should know by now, The Runways biopic debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this past Sunday night but today we learn that principal stars Kristen Stewart (who plays Joan Jett) and Dakota Fanning (who plays Cherie Currie) participated in a short Q&A with fans and reporters after the film’s Sundance premiere and we get to watch a short video clip from it:
I must warn you, tho, K. Stew‘s painfully obvious uncomfortableness with public speaking makes it very difficult to watch this video clip without your wanting to cringe every other second. Her fidgety demeanor and odd manner really makes it truly painful to watch … which is exactly why you gotta watch. Check it out after the jump …
Yeesh. She’s bad, huh? I’m actually kinda glad the clip is only a little over a minute long because I don’t even know if I could watch any more. I’m so surprised that a prolific actress like Stewart has this much difficulty speaking in front of people. Dakota handled herself very well, on the contrary. She’s a pro. Poor Kristen is such a mess in this clip, I bet she LOATHES situations like this. She needs to just slow down … talking less like a speedfreak would do wonders for her, methinks. No wonder she always looks a mess at public events. OY!!

her awkwardness is what makes me like her….even if it is painful to watch lol. it just shows how she really is acting because she loves it not because she wants to be famous. clearly she does not love the fame part of the business…a nice change.
The problem with Kristen is she tries to act smarter and more grown up than she is. Dakota, as we all know is very mature for her age. I think Kristen is trying to keep pace with her and her mind is racing so much that she fidgets and cant find the words she wants to say. She needs to just relax and let the words flow. She also comes across as bitchy when asked the same kind of question twice. Not very cool.

@the haters – She seems really nervous? So what? big deal? Is she suppose to act like a microsoft spokesperson up there? My homeboy Heathcliff Ledger was super nervous fidgety – he still did a good acting job when he had to. I’d rather see someone be nervous and real than see someone be phony bologna.
Someone needs to do an intervention on this trick….and if it was just nervousness, she’d say so. I’m not a hater – I have nothing against Kristen, but sheesh…if I was her mother…..just sayin’.
Fear of public speaking is something that goes away in time … honestly, i have performed for 5 years and this year was the first time that I lost the constant leg shake and voice catches that I experienced in every show or public event that I participated in .. its something she’ll eventually overcome. It just takes time.
Funny. Being as “shy” as she is, that she would choose to become a performer.

Awww poor Kristen. I feel for this girl but WTH she looks like she was just on the couch watching tv whats with that? The public speaking I understand I’m comfortable in front of a camera and many other people but public speaking you can could me out, I move around to much and am very fidgety. but damn on drugs or not the girl is in hollywood, take a public speaking class hun, you’re going to need it.

She does not look like someone on drugs. Please. She always seems anxious in interviews, but add in a huge crowd and talking about a personal relationship (she clearly had become friends with Joan Jett and felt odd about talking to the masses about it), and I can see why she would be nervous.
That was painful to watch.
I hate speaking in front of 20 people let alone hundreds of thousands. Poor thing I would be a wreak too.
oh come, this is classic stoned paranoia! She freely admits to smoking + she seems like a shy, private girl + social anxiety = this clip.

She is horrible! I don’t know how she was accepted into the world of acting! She cannot speak clearly and always acts like she is on drugs!! She is a train wreck
As someone who hates public speaking and also fidgets (or, twitches, depending on your preference) I can’t hate on Kristen for this.
I’ll agree that it is painful to watch. And that., as an actress who is often in the public eye, maybe speaking/interview/media management classes might be helpful.
I look and sound the same as her when I’m public speaking (maybe even worse) and I’m not on drugs!
Also, while acting you have a script and you don’t have to come up with stuff off the top of your head in front of the media. Acting versus this type of situation= 2 very different things!
