Crêpes & Art & Wings, Oh My!
The TV Guide

Yesterday was a really fun day in Detroit, MI. Because David doesn’t get to The DTM very often, Sarah and I decided that we want to show him how amazing Detroit Rock City is so yesterday was Day 1 of our campaign. We started out the day grabbing lunch at the amazing crêperie Good Girls Go To Paris:

Now I’m not a huge fan of savory crêpes (ie. with meat, etc.) but these crêpes are AMAZING. I enjoyed one with roast beef, brie and cranberries … it was TO DIE FOR! We all shared a sweet crêpe for dessert with granny smith apples, caramel, brown sugar and fresh whipped creme. Seriously, to die. Detroiters, get your ass to Good Girls Go To Paris, I swear you will LOVE it there :)

After we supped almost to death, we made our way to the Detroit Institute of Art then we made our way to Joe Louis Arena to watch the Detroit Red Wings take on the LA Kings. Check out some fun photos after the jump …

The DIA is a fantastic museum with some of the best art in the world. I really wanted to show David the Van Gogh paintings because he and I fell in love at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam almost 4 years ago :) The Diego Rivera court has to be my fave part of the museum tho.

After the museum, we met up with Mark and went to the JLA to root for the Wings:

While we had a fab time at the game, I’m sorry to say that the Kings ended up pulling out a win beating the Wings 3-2. Meh, you can’t win ‘em all. It was really cool to see hockey legend Gordie Howe in person tho … that was a highlight (as were the jumbo beers ;). We had a great day and ended the night at Union Street on Woodward, Ave.

Today we will be making our way to Ann Arbor with a visit to The Arb and then a visit with Tracey and Zakiya!! It is warmer today here in Detroit but, unfortch, it’s rainy too. Ah well … home, sweet, home and all that jazz.

  3. Amy says:

Yep, it is rainy in Michigan today. My thermoter says 46 degrees, HEAT WAVE. What day was your dad’s b’day? Mine was Sunday.

  4. PALMS! says:

Ok, we dont get out as much anymore (kids!) but since this is a DETROIT (!!!) campaign, how about:

    1. West Side Story at 1928 Historic Redford Theatre (the only organ theatre left in the citay) – you can see 1900s films set to live organ. It’s a gorgeous place.

    2. How about a visit to Hamtramck (Polish Village) – for some REAL Polish cuisine. NY and LA aint gonna put out like Hamtramck!!!

    3. Bakers Keyboard Lounge! Catch a quartet at Bakers where the largest of jazz stars blew their horns like no otha! WHAT IS BETTER than fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens and live jazz?!!

    4. How about Jacoby’s down on Brush (2 blocks north of Ren Cen) for some German cuisine. It’s one of the oldest bars (owners met in 1908, I beleive) at the Ponchatrain when Jacoby’s was in “German Town”.

    5. Venus Fly Trap (Ferndale) for lunch – it even made the Food Network. Long live the BLAT (Bacon Lettuce Avocado Tomato) sammich!!!

    6. Cranbrook Museum/Planatarium or wait, how about HITSVILLE, USA (Motown Museum)?!!

    7. Henry Ford Museum (holy history!!!) – they have Rosa Parks Bus there – and of course, GF Village, but I think that’s closed for the winter.

    8. Sledding but bleh! It’s raining out. You missed the snow by 2 weeks!!! Substitute brunch at La Dolce Vita at 6 mile and Woodward. It’s warmer there anyhow.

    9. Giovanni’s (off Oakwood/M39) – Detroit. This is like mafia style eating. One of Detroit’s hidden gems and still “protected”. It’s a hispanic part of town now with the exception of Givanni’s. Frank Sinatra had dinner here a bunch of times.

    10. Detroit bars (Bronx, Cliff Bells, Honest Johns, Cas Cafe, Old Miami, Jacobys or anywhere in Greektown)!!!

ENJOY!!! I can not wait to see what you have planned for David here in your motherland!!!

  6. Saple says:

i wanted to say hi but also wanted to let you eat in peace… we went over to bowl and thomas hearns was in the next lane.. it was brush with famous night in the D …. XOXO

  7. Coraline says:

Can’t help but correct you Trent, a place that makes crêpes is called a “crêperie” and not a “crêpière” (which is the instrument used to bake the crêpes!).
As a French citizen, I just couldn’t let that be!

  8. Yoka says:

Also here to correct something: it’s Van Gogh not Van Gough. Being Dutch I couldn’t let that one slide :) I noticed the crêperie one too lol

  9. Jill says:

YOU GOT TO SEE MR. HOCKEY!!!

  10. Jill says:

I am so completely jealous of you Trent. lol

  11. Kate says:

I THOUGHT that was you at the Joe! I work there! I must make more of an effort to be ahead of you and know when you will be there! I’d love to meet you!
