And another TV series bites the dust … Entertainment Weekly is reporting the bad news that ABC has announced the cancellation of Ugly Betty. I, personally, stopped watching the show ages ago but I know that there will be many fans very upset by this news. David is an Ugly Betty fan and he is pretty bummed. Read on for the sad deets:
ABC has just informed Ugly Betty producers that the show’s current fourth season will be its last. What’s more, the network has trimmed the show’s episode order from 22 to 20. Although not a complete shock given the show’s heinous ratings, the news is nonetheless a total bummer — particularly in light of Betty’s creative resurgence this season. The good news is that ABC has given Betty’s bosses enough time to craft a satisfying series finale. Exec producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson confirmed as much in this joint statement: “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”
Yeah, I don’t know that the “good news” is that producers have enough time to “craft a satisfying series finale” … but, c’est la vie. Well, actually, c’est la mort. I understand Betty suffered when ABC exiled it to Friday nights and many believed the network’s decision to move it from Fridays would be its saving grace. I guess not. Even tho I’ve not been a Betty fan for some time, I’ll admit that I’m bummed at the show’s cancellation. Any Betty fans out there upset by this news? First Conan, now Betty??? This makes me so sad. I didn’t want to face the music, but I knew the end was near when they kept changing the air dates. I just don’t want to be real. And to think, there are some boring shows ABC is coming out with… They need to keep UB and get rid of that stupid new lawyer show.
I JUST STARTING WATCHING AGAIN! I watched the first season then lost interest but over the holidays my sister got the all the season so I watched them ALL. I found a new found love for the show. :(
You gotta be kidding! I mean this make me feel really sad :( I really LOVE Ugly Betty so much.. It’s soooo fun I’m really going to miss all the characters like Amanda, Mark, Betty! :(
Big time BUMMER! I love this show! I understand people think the ‘shtick’ of the show has run it’s course but the novelty has never worn off for me. The characters have grown and flourished and it has never stopped being hilarious, cute and clever to me. Waaaah. Just. Wah. :(
I love the Betty – it has suffered creatively the past 2 years but they TRY and it isnt a reality show!! Its actually a written show BY writers…I still miss Pushing Daisies and well, I digress…Long Live Betty
This was such a funny camp show. Its so upsetting that television networks destroy shows without thinking, they always screw up good shows by moving them around and not supporting them. Do studios not have any sort of a clue of how to run a station???
ABC screwed up when they moved it from Thursday. I never found out what time they moved it to, so I’ve been catching the last couple seasons on abc.go.com.
I think the move was particularly bad because most TV shows started really sucking around the time of the writer’s strike and it took a while for many shows to recover. UB deffo went through a dull phase, but was just starting to get its shine back! WAhh :(
This show is currently one of the best and funniest on prime time. I am Hispanic and recently became a devoted fan. Check out the episode on-line from about three. Weeks ago to get caught up. I will be watching ’till the end. : )

I’m so bummed that they moved it. Sure it was more amusing earlier on and more drama filled lately but a great show. Ugly Betty will be missed!

this is so sad and not fair. i love thia show and its one of my favourites and the characters are amazing.i think that all the characters have flourished so well and i would have liked to have seen more of them. especially the realtionship between betty and daniel and also more of justin and the rest of course. i think it stands out from other shows and has good messages and is always nice to watch.i hope that atleast it ends well but i will surely miss it.

this is the randomest comment ever, but I always expected the American Orthodontic Association to write the show a letter about the exessive amount of time Betty wore braces. Every time I saw the show or a promo pic for it I thought, when are they going to have the episode where she gets the metal taken off? Random. Sorry.

Definitely sad to see this one go. However I am glad they gave it four seasons. ABC is famous for canceling so many shows without giving it a proper chance and wrap-up. It’ll be missed but saw this one coming.
Weak sauce ABC Weak Sauce! You killed this show with intent. The only thing good you have going on your network is Wednesday nights and the final season of Lost. Whatever go on with your Bachelors,Housewives and stoopid Grey’s ( that’s a show that should be dropped)
so desperate housewives stays? Yet Ugly Betty goes? Where is the justice in that? Boo! I will miss Willy, Amanda, Mark and Betty, such a unique show that makes me smile! How very dare you ABC!
Sad to see this series go, only started watching it the season before last, and it’s been my go-to when I want something that will hold my attention, but in all honesty I can’t see how much further they could take the plot anyways. I love that it’s a kind of lighthearted soap, hopefully they can come up with something original that’s comparable! And I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Michael Urie pops up in something else soon after, love him!

You can save this show!! If you move it back to THURSDAYS then more people would watch it!! I love this show sooo much!!! You are just confusing people by taking it off the air and then moving it to different nights. Just leave it at thursday and Ugly Betty can show you how much people love it. PLEASE DON”T CANCEL THE ONLY GOOD SHOW ON TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just started watching this again and now I am obsessed with. If nothing else…. please give it a good ending and then bring it back in the FALL!!!!!!!!!!!!
