Tom Cruise Gets Back Into The Swing Of Things On The Set Of His New Movie

When last we saw photos of Tom Cruise hard at work on the set of a new film, he was jumpin’ all over the place for his new film Knight and Day. Over the weekend, Cruise was back in LA hard at work on another new film titled The Hardy Men and, yep you guessed it, he was back to his daredevil ways … behold:

It’s clear that Tommy boy likes to work hard for his money. With his fame and cachet, he does NOT need to be endangering his life like this to do his own stunts. It’s clear Tom likes going for the real deal. While the pessimist in me just thinks he likes to be a show-off, the optimist in me can appreciate that he does know that movies that feature stars doing their own stunts look better. I’m not sure if all this jumpin’ around is enough to get me into the theater to see his movies but he is workin’ hard nonetheless. Are any of y’all impressed at all?

Prepare ye the way for his new "erotic thriller" film
Ryan Gosling Goes Tubing At The Sundance Film Festival

Hottie McHotster Ryan Gosling enjoyed an evening of tubing on the slopes at a part at the T-Mobile myTouch Diner at Village at the Yard in Park City, UT at the Sundance Film Festival yesterday. The event was thrown in celebration of Gosling‘s new film with actress Michelle Williams and Ryan was THE FIRST guy to get in on the fun. Here are a few photos from the fun event and some deets about his new film Blue Valentine:

Ryan Gosling’s new film is so sexy he thinks it should be classed as an “erotic thriller”. The 29-year-old actor has revealed his upcoming movie ‘Blue Valentine’ – in which he stars alongside ‘Brokeback Mountain’ actress Michelle Williams – contains sex scenes which are as steamy as anything filmgoers have seen before. He said: “I’ve heard the film described as a portrait of love falling apart, but I think they should call it an ‘erotic thriller’. That sounds way more fun. Sex is a really important character in the film.” In the upcoming drama, the pair play a married couple who are trying to halt the breakdown of their relationship by remembering the early days of their romance. Although the movie does contain lovemaking scenes, the Canadian actor insists it is integral to the storyline and is not used gratuitously. He added: “Sex is a bone of contention in the present and a dialogue of their love in the past.” The movie is due for release later this year.

Sounds spicy, I’m sold. As you may recall, we saw a few photos of Gosling on the set of Blue Valentine last year … a few showed him lookin’ all bruised and beaten, another few showed him lookin’ all smoochy with Williams. I am ALL FOR any film that features Mr. Ryan Gosling. He is a great actor. Incidentally, while my friends and I were stuffing our faces with Jet’s Pizza last night, we were watching The Notebook on ABC Family. Ryan Gosling is sooooo dreamy. By the looks of these photos, he appears to be a lot of fun to play with, too!

It's still hip to be square
The Rubik’s Cube Turns 30 Years Old

The famed Rubik’s Cube that took the 80′s by storm is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary this year (can you believe it) and is using the occasion to try and inspire the youth of today to do better in school. Some of you may be too young to remember but in the Rubik’s Cube‘s hey day, it was as popular worldwide as the iPhone is today … everyone had to have one, it was a phenomenon. Now, 30 years later, the Cube is hoping that it can help get kids more interested in math and science … not a bad goal for a non-electronic puzzle game, I think. Here are some deets from the new Rubik’s press release:

As the Rubik’s Cube, one of the most beloved and best-selling puzzles of all time, celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year, the next generation of fans are cracking the code to this three-decade old icon. With the help of the new You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube initiative, thousands of youths from schools, camps and after-school programs nationwide are accomplishing the unthinkable — solving the cube one fun twist at a time, while learning about algebra, geometry, and determination. And now, anyone, including parents, teachers, and students alike, can ring in the New Year by making their own “Rubik’s Resolution,” a pledge to learn how to solve the cube, gaining critical thinking skills and a sense of triumph along the way.

How you can pledge a “Rubik’s Resolution”:

* Youth: The new You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube online portal features a downloadable step-by-step solution guide for unlocking the secrets to the 3×3 Rubik’s Cube. Online cube communities like Facebook, YouTube, and YouCanDoTheCube.com allow participants to share Rubik’s Cube experiences.
* Educators: Lesson plans with a math twist show teachers and youth leaders how to use the Rubik’s Cube as a memorization, sequencing, and problem solving tool. The You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube solution guide and lesson plans have been designed to help educators engage youth with hands-on education activities and are aligned with standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the Partnership for 21st Century Skills.
* Parents: After-school and weekend Rubik’s activities foster life lessons such as problem-solving, negotiation, and teamwork, and provide an interactive, tangible way for youth to learn fundamental math disciplines like fractions and measurement.

“The Rubik’s cube program has taught our students invaluable critical thinking skills and has boosted their confidence immeasurably,” said Cindy Caruso, citywide afterschool and summer camp coordinator at New York City’s Parks and Recreation Department. “We look forward to our upcoming tournament.”

Thirty years after its introduction to America by Erno Rubik, the Rubik’s Cube today is being used to teach important math concepts including area, perimeter, volume, angles, algorithms and enumeration, among many other geometry and algebra topics. To date, the You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube program is used as an education tool and confidence booster in thousands of schools K-12 in 48 states across the U.S. and in over 100 Boys & Girls Clubs of America and YMCA after-school programs. With the launch of the new You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube “Competition Guide,” dozens of schools have hosted regional competitions as well.

The “You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube” solution kits available to schools, camps, and after-school programs include 12 Rubik’s Cubes, 12 solution guides, an instructional DVD, cube sign-out sheets, posters, stickers, and award certificates for when a child solves the puzzle.

For more information, and to learn how to bring the “You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube” program to a local school or youth organization, visit www.YouCanDoTheCube.com.

This is so cool … but will kids put down their hand-held video games, iPods and cellphones to play with Rubik’s Cubes again? Unlikely but I’m glad that the folks at Rubik’s are still workin’ hard to try and inspire kids again. I can’t even convey how popular this puzzle game was back in the 80′s … it was such a huge deal. While the Rubik’s Cube we all know and love is celebrating 30 years this year, the actual birth date of the puzzle goes back to 1974. Click HERE for a full blast from the past history lesson on the Rubik’s Cube. Are any of y’all fans? Can you still realign the Rubik’s Cube colors in record time?

Family Fun Night
Britwick Take The Boys To The Movies

After making her appointed appearance in court on Friday afternoon, Britney Spears and her agent/beau Jason Trawick stepped out with her children Sean Preston and Jayden James for a family night at the movies. Here are pics of the fam as they made their way out of a theater showing of The Tooth Fairy:

It is SO lovely to see that Britney and Jason are still happily together, spending as much time as they can as a family for Brit‘s boys. While I find Britwick‘s movie choice dubious at best, I suppose you cannot fault them for picking The Tooth Fairy for the sake of the young’ns. Britwick can see as many crappy films as they like so long as they continue to do so together. Long live, Britwick!!

Whitney Houston Announces The ‘Nothing But Love’ World Tour

Last October Whitney Houston teased that she would be hittin’ the road with a world tour titled Nothing But Love and today we get our first look at the first promo photo that will be included in the Nothing But Love tourbook!

As you may already know, Whitney announced the tour by saying:

This is my first full tour since the My Love Is Your Love tour and I am so excited to be performing for my fans around the world after all this time. I am putting together a great show and cannot wait to perform the songs from my new album ‘I Look To You’, along with some of your favorites.

Our dear Whitney looks FANTASTIC! I understand the Nothing But Love World Tour begins Feb 6th in South Kore and continues onto Japan, Australia and Europe. She should be making her way to our sunny shores later on in the year. People, get ready, Whitney is coming back to the live performance stage!! I cannot WAIT!! Does she not look fantastic in this photo?

The TV Guide
Arbor Day

Yesterday was another fun day here in the Metro Detroit area. To get the day started, we paid a visit to one of my fave stores in the area, Earth Lore, before we made our way to Plymouth, MI to check out the ice sculpture festival going on there this weekend. We enjoyed a lovely lunch at Sean O’Callaghan’s pub before we made our way to Ann Arbor for phase two of our day:

After the jump, check out a few photos from our adventures trekking thru the Nichols Arboretum before we made our way to visit with Tracey and Zakiya …

Michael C. Hall & Jennifer Carpenter Run Sunday Errands Together

Hot on the heels of his wins this year at the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards for his amazing work on Dexter, Michael C. Hall stepped out with his beautiful wife and Dexter co-star Jennifer Carpenter to run a few errands together yesterday afternoon. Here are a few photos of the happy couple out and about in SoCal yesterday:

They look so happy, so in love. I love these photos. As you may recall, MCH announced a couple of weeks ago that he is successfully battling cancer but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the smile on his face. I wish nothing but the best for MCH and Jenny C. May they live long and very happy lives together!!

Victoria Beckham Flies Home To SoCal To Be With Her Children

At the start of last week Victoria Beckham jetted off to the UK to take care of some biz before she made her way to Milan, Italy to meet up with her hubby David Beckham (and to fend off any would-be bulge gropers) later in the week. Today we learn that VB has already made her way back home to LA to be reunited with her children. VB uncharacteristically arrived at LAX Airport wearing ballet flat shoes as opposed to her usual high heel stilettos (!!!) and then she stepped out with her boys — Brooklyn Joseph, Romeo James and Cruz David — for a trip to Whole Foods while wearing baggy jeans (!!!!!) and flip flops (!!!!!!!!!!):

Say whaaaaaaat? Not only is the woman the Queen of transcontinental flying (I don’t know HOW the hell she does it) but this new way of dressing is … interesting. Yes, it appears that VB was not too keen on being seen out and about in baggy jeans and flip flops but still, I’m glad to see her so dressed down. I want to see more of this Vicki B. She may not think she looks fab but I sure do.

Raising money for Haiti
Celebs Come Out To See Radiohead In Concert

On Friday we learned that Radiohead had announced a last minute, impromptu live concert performance at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, CA to raise money for Haitian relief. The tickets were sold via Ticketmaster by auction and the show took place last night. A few celebs, like couples Maggie Gyllenhaal & Peter Sarsgaard and Anna Paquin & Stephen Moyer came out for the show which, according to LAist, raised over half a million dollars for the people of Haiti:

Late Thursday Radiohead announced that it would perform a charity show benefiting the survivors of the devastating January 12th earthquake in Haiti. The tickets were made available via a Ticketmaster auction which ended with a final minimum bid of $475 (meaning many secured their tickets for $450). Some went above and beyond as the proceeds were going to Oxfam America’s Haiti Relief Fund and the high bid was $2,000 per ticket (for either 2 or 4 tickets), according to the band. All in all more than $572,000 was raised in fans’ donations and it was an unforgettable, intimate gig for all at the 1,300-capacity theater.

It truly sounds like a special night … not only because the setlist looked AMAZING but because so many people gave so generously to help the affected people of Haiti. After the jump, check out the setlist in full …
