A new song from the soundtrack for ‘Tron: Legacy’
First Listen: Daft Punk, ‘Fragile’

Almost 30 years after Disney released the futuristic film Tron back in 1982 they are set to release the long-awaited sequel Tron: Legacy in December of this year. French electro-musicians Daft Punk have been commissioned to create the soundtrack for the film and this weekend a new Daft Punk song titled Fragile has leaked its way to the Internets giving us our first listen to the Tron 2 soundtrack:

A song from Daft Punk’s forthcoming soundtrack to the Tron: Legacy film has reportedly appeared online. The song from the French duo, seemingly titled ‘Fragile’, was picked up by fan site Daftworld.over-blog.com. The film is due for cinematic release in December. Last October it was revealed that the Daft Punk pair, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, appear in the film as well as having recorded its score. It is believed that they will take part in promotional work for the film’s production company, Disney, this summer.

I am a huge Daft Punk fan and I think this marriage between the band and the Tron franchise is BRILLIANT! I am quite taken by this new track, it’s very Daft Punk. After the jump, check out a new promo pic from the film and listen to the song Fragile in full …

Birthday Lurve
Happy 5th Birthday, Chifundo ‘Mercy’ James

Birthday Lurve goes out to Chifundo Mercy James this weekend as the little Miss celebrates her 5th birthday this week. Here are a couple photos from Mercy‘s b-day celebration with her mother Madonna and her brother David Banda earlier this week:

[Madonna] took her five-year-old daughter and her adopted son David, four, to a New York toy shop to celebrate Mercy’s birthday on Thursday. David had been decorated in facepaint, while Mercy was dressed up in a pink tutu, white hat and a Stella McCartney jacket. The design, created for GapKids, is said to be so popular that it sold out of shops in New York just weeks after it was released. But when you are the daughter of one of the world’s biggest superstar, such issues do not seem to be a problem. In contrast, her mother looked a lot more conservative, opting for a black trouser suit and overcoat. However, little Mercy doesn’t seem to have had too much trouble adapting to the jet-set lifestyle she is currently living since moving from her native Malawi seven months ago. She has often been seen dressed head to foot in designer clothes and has dined in the world’s most exclusive restaurants. Reports this week have suggested that the 51-year-old is keen to try for another child with her toyboy lover, Jesus Luz, 22. The singer already has four children, Lourdes, 14, with her former personal trainer Carlos Leon and son Rocco, nine, with ex-husband Guy Ritchie as well as her two adopted African orphans. The US singer has been with Luz for almost 18 months, meeting him during a photo shoot in Brazil shortly after she divorced Ritchie. Madonna performed yesterday at George Clooney’s Hope For Haiti Now benefit concert, which raised more than $30million. The star-studded fundraiser which took place in New York and London also included Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder.

What a little doll!! She truly is the prettiest princess of all. I bet Mercy had herself a fabulous birthday this year, no doubt a much more festive one than the little girl is prolly used to from her orphanage days. Mercy is coming up on her 1 year anniversary as Madonna‘s daughter so she’s still got a lot of celebratin’ to look forward to in 2010. Let’s send all our love and birthday wishes to Mercy James today. Happy Birthday, Mercy!

The TV Guide
Old Haunts

David and I made it to Detroit safe and sound and without a single delay. Altho the rain was falling steadily when we left, we got to the airport in record time (no lie) and managed to fly out without incident. Upon arrival, Sarah and Mark picked us up and whisked us off to Royal Oak so that we could dine at one of my fave restaurants in the world, Little Tree Sushi:

After we supped to our hearts’ collective content, we made our way to Berkley, MI to enjoy a few martinis at Amici’s Living Room … another of my fave places on Earth. It’s cold here but the warmth of happy friendship is keeping us nice and toasty.

Because this trip is so last-minute, we’re kinda taking it all by ear. Today we are heading downtown to visit the Detroit Institute of Art and then tonight we are going to cheer on the Detroit Red Wings against the LA Kings at the Joe Louis Arena!

LA may be my new home, sweet, home but I will forever root for the Detroit Red Wings :) I am very excited for today, it shall be fun!!

La Diva Mama Latina in full effect
Jennifer Lopez & The Twins Relax By The Pool

Here are a few supercute photos of Jennifer Lopez, La Diva Latina herself in all her glory, chillin’ with her twin babies — Emme Maribel and Maximillian David — by a pool at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, FL yesterday afternoon. With her head securely wrapped in a bright red babushka and her children all dolled up in their finest finery, J. Lo and the kiddies enjoyed a lovely afternoon poolside:

You gotta love that J. Lo‘s little girl Emme was all diva-ed out in her fabulous sundress and sunglasses and her little man Max was rockin’ a Burberry bathing suit. Fab-u-lous. It’s crazy how quickly these little babies grew up … it seems like just yesterday that they were born and now they’re little kids already. I bet Jennifer Lopez is a fabulous mother … it really looks like a fun time was had by all.

Victoria Beckham Meets Up With Hubby David Beckham In Milan

Victoria Beckham, who recently jetted from LA to London to take care of some business affairs at the start of this week, has made her way to Milan, Italy to spend some time with her hubby David Beckham who is currently on loan to the AC Milan football club. As you may recall, Becks got unceremoniously groped by an overzealous Italian TV host earlier this week for a bit on Italian television so it makes sense that Vicki B. would want to fly to his side to ensure that no other women get grabby with her man. I understand that Becks was happy to have VB in town, as he’s been taking cooking lessons from Gordon Ramsey to impress her with his skills:

Perhaps Christmas dinner with the Ramsays has inspired the Beckhams to hone their cooking skills. With apron in hand, David was spotted leaving a cookery class in Milan with wife Victoria this week where he is learning how to make amazing pasta. The 34-year-old footballer, who is on loan to [AC Milan], is said to be keen to impress his chef pal Gordon with his culinary technique. Victoria, 35, joined her husband for the class after jetting in to meet him in Italy. David was dressed down in jeans and a T-shirt with a casual jacket, while mother-of-three Posh looked her usual glamorous self in a stylish mini trenchcoat. After their class on Thursday the pair climbed into their black Audi sports car, with Victoria hiding behind a pair of sunglasses. The next day Becks did some training with his team before meeting up with Victoria for a spot of shopping.

I’m sure VB is all bizness when it comes to taking care of her man, I doubt anyone will be gettin’ even relatively close to his junk while she’s around. I think it’s very cool that Becks has taken up cooking classes in downtime away from the soccer field. For some reason, I cannot see Vicki B. as a cook … so I’m sure she, too, appreciates Becks‘s efforts in the kitchen. It’s unclear how long VB will remain in Milan before she jets back to SoCal to tend to the children … but it’s nice to see Les Beckhams reunited once again.

Conan says thanks and goodbye ... with class
‘The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien’ Is Dunzo

Last night Conan O’Brien hosted his final episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien just about 7 months after he was hired to replace Jay Leno as host. As we are all well aware by now, NBC decided to move Leno back to his old gig, giving O’Brien the shaft (and a hefty severance check) much to his fans’ bitter dismay. As you might expect from Conan O’Brien, he issued a heartfelt thank you and goodbye not only to his legion of fans but to the network that treated him so badlyConan went out with the utmost class and integrity:

An emotional Conan O’Brien has bid adieu to NBC, saying that walking away from US television’s long-running “The Tonight Show” was the most difficult decision of his life. At times fighting back tears, O’Brien thanked his legions of fans Friday night for making “a sad situation joyous and inspirational,” urging them to fight cynicism over the ugly public feud that ended his seven-month tenure at the legendary late-night comedy show. The audience at Universal Studios in Burbank, California replied in kind, giving him a standing ovation and chanting “Conan! Conan! Conan!” repeatedly. After an experiment placing the funnyman’s predecessor in prime time garnered meager ratings and frustrated the network’s affiliates, NBC television announced it would bring Jay Leno back to the show he hosted for 17 years. The settlement landed O’Brien a reported 45-million-dollar buyout — with the red-haired comedian pocketing around 32 million and the balance going to his staff — in a bid by NBC to end what has been a public relations disaster once and for all. But during his last monologue for the show, the embattled host even found time to thank NBC, a network he has called home for over 20 years. “Yes, we have our differences right now and yes, we’re going to go our separate ways,” he went on. “But this company has been my home for most of my adult life. I am enormously proud of the work we have done together, and I want to thank NBC for making it all possible.” He also delivered a few last jabs to his NBC paymasters, a practice that had become a nightly staple of his opening monologues ever since the saga broke out into public view. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he announced, “we have exactly one hour to steal every single item in this studio.” Leno and other comedians at other networks had also used their shows to joke about NBC’s controversial move. Never one to pass an opportunity for self-deprecating humor, O’Brien told his audience: “I just want to make one thing clear to everyone listening out there right now. I will do nudity.” Among his guests were actor Tom Hanks, rocker Neil Young, comedian Will Ferrell and Steve Carell, star of the hit television series “The Office.” Carell gave O’Brien, 46, an “exit interview.” Asked if we would consider working for NBC again in the future, O’Brien replied: “I don’t know. I can’t say at this time.” Although he was calling it quits with a show he loved and admired, O’Brien told his fans that “I really feel this should be a happy moment.”

One thing’s for sure, Conan O’Brien is a gentleman’s gentleman. NBC was lucky to have him in their employ and they will suffer for his loss. I’ve never been particularly fond of late night television talk shows but I have always been a fan of Conan O’Brien the man. I know his words were not hollow when he graciously thanked NBC for all the opportunities they gave him, including his short stint as Tonight Show host. The man is classy beyond belief … no question. After the jump, watch video of Conan giving his personal thanks to his fans last night and read the prepared text (which is a bit different than his adlibbed speech on the show last night) of his final, goodbye message …

Donations are still coming in
Celebs Team Up To Raise ‘Hope For Haiti Now’

Celebs all over the globe, broadcasting from different cities across the US and abroad, came together last night for a multi-network telethon called Hope for Haiti Now in an effort to inspire viewers at home to donate funds for the relief effort in Haiti. George Clooney, who organized the telethon, played host for the event while various celebs manned the phone lines to take in donations and others performed live thruout the show:

Solemn music from the world’s biggest stars served as the soundtrack to Friday night’s telethon for Haiti relief, but the fundraiser ended with Wyclef Jean shouting “Enough of the moping, let’s rebuild Haiti.” Organizers did not immediately say how much money was raised during the two-hour “Hope for Haiti Now” show, but donations will continue to flow in as the phone lines remained open and the night’s musical performances are sold on iTunes. A moving performance by Alicia Keys opened the telethon. Actor George Clooney, serving as the Los Angeles host for the event, made the first appeal for donations to raise money for relief efforts after last week’s devastating earthquake. “The Haitian people need our help,” Clooney said. “They need to know they are not alone. They need to know that we still care.” The show was one of the most widely distributed prime-time televised benefits in history, appearing simultaneously on more than 25 networks — including CNN, where Anderson Cooper reported live from Haiti during the event. Children left homeless and orphaned by the earthquake were front and center. “Hundreds and thousands of children in Haiti are lost and they’re looking for their parents,” actress Halle Berry said. “Please, look into your heart. Please, help these children of Haiti.” Cooper, in one of several live appearances, was joined by 5-year-old Monley, a Haitian boy who was pulled alive — but severely dehydrated — from the rubble nearly eight days after the quake. Ten members of his family, including both parents, were killed. Actor Samuel L. Jackson, walking in front of a phone bank staffed by celebrities, assured viewers that “100 percent of your donations will go directly to organizations that are on the ground right now.” More than 100 actors, musicians and other celebrities answered phones in New York and Los Angeles — after professional operators first talked to donors. “Thank you so much for your donation,” actress Reese Witherspoon told one caller. “You can’t imagine how much love and great, wonderful energy is here today. People are doing everything they can to make a difference in these people’s lives.” “I’m just calling to help out,” the male donor said. “I couldn’t donate a lot, but what I could I did donate” … Wyclef Jean — a native of Haiti and the New York host for the event — talked about his visit last week to Haiti. “I was there to clear away concrete and pull away rubble,” Jean said. “I carried bodies of my people to the cemetery.” Jean’s “Yele Haiti Foundation” will receive some of the money raised. “From the ashes we shall rise, so please give what you can,” he said. Bruce Springsteen performed “We Shall Overcome,” a spiritual that became the anthem of the U.S civil rights movement. “This is a small prayer for Haiti,” Springsteen said as he began. Other musical performers included Stevie Wonder, Shakira, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Coldplay, Christina Aguilera, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Jennifer Hudson, Madonna, Dave Matthews and Neil Young … The show — presented by MTV — was carried on CNN.com/Live and the CNN iPhone application. Other networks airing “Hope for Haiti” included ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, BET, The CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT. The show was also aired on the Discovery’s eco-lifestyle television network, Planet Green. Proceeds from the telethon will benefit Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF, the U.N. World Food Programme, Yele Haiti Foundation, and the Clinton Bush Haiti Foundation.

The performances were solemn, yes, but the images that were broadcast of the suffering in Haiti were devastatingly heartbreaking. If you were particularly fond of any one performance, you can purchase a special edition album of performances from iTunes with the proceeds going to the charities associated with Hope for Haiti Now. After the jump, check out a short video of highlights from last night’s telethon and watch a beautiful acoustic performance of Like a Prayer by Madonna
