Reports have been flying around all weekend long that suggest that Dr. Conrad Murray, the personal physician who was present when Michael Jackson died last June, will be charged with his death in the wake of the release of MJ‘s amended Death Certificate. The new document lists homicide by way of intravenous injection by another as the cause of death. Considering Dr. Murray was the one injecting the dangerous drug Propofol into MJ to put him to sleep, I’d say those reports might be pretty right on:

The late pop legend – who died of acute Propofol intoxication in June 2009 – was last seen alive by his personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray, who is now likely to be criminally charged with Michael’s death in the next couple of weeks. Detectives working on Michael’s death completed their investigation last month and the case will now be formally presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney. A source told gossip website TMZ the investigation was “exhaustive” and “extremely thorough” and there was enough evidence for a criminal case against Dr. Murray. The case is particularly complicated because the doctor did not break any laws by administering Propofol to the ‘Thriller’ singer but he could be charged with involuntary manslaughter, relating to gross negligence. Dr. Murray – who did not have any criminal charges brought against him immediately after Jackson’s passing – has since returned to the Armstrong Medical Clinic in Houston, Texas, where he has been treating patients.

Yeah, it should come as no surprise that Dr. Murray is the one who’s gonna take the heat on this one and I cannot imagine that, if charged, he will evade punishment in some form. Still, technically, he could prove that he did nothing wrong criminally and could get off with a slap on the wrist or even scott free. It’s only a matter of time before we hear that he has been formally charged … and then the circus of his trial will get underway. It shant be long now.

Earlier today we learned that Richard Heene was due to surrender himself to begin serving his 30 day jail sentence for orchestrating the infamous Balloon Boy Hoax last October. Since that earlier post, Heene has indeed turned himself in and went and got himself a new mugshot:

So now this idiotic father of 3 young and very impressionable sons has 2 mugshots to add to the family album. His first mugshot was taken last November after he was arrested and charged for the Balloon Boy Hoax and this second, jailhouse, mugshot is his latest. Call me crazy but methinks these mugshots are just the first of possibly many to be attributed to the Heene family.

Blake Lively, who has just been cast as the female romantic lead in the upcoming Green Lantern film, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Esquire magazine. It would seem that the theme of her Esquire photospread is the movie Grease, behold her coverphoto:

While the leggy blonde may play glamorous Manhattan socialite Serena on The CW soap Gossip Girl, her next role finds Lively a world away. “It was crazy,” Blake says of the Ben Affleck-directed crime drama The Town, in which she plays a cash-strapped woman who is the victim of a sexual assault. “I have a sex scene in this film and that’s never comfortable,” she tells Esquire. “You think, ‘Oh, this is going to be so awkward.’ But this scene isn’t supposed to be a steamy one – it’s sort of tragic. … I’m pretty much crying in it.”

HMMM … I know that some people are concerned that Blake‘s acting chops may not be up to par for Green Lantern but I’m thinking this movie she’s promoting in Esquire may give us a better understanding of her acting abilities. To be honest, I’m more interested in her accompanying photospread rather than her coverstory article. I’m curious to see where this Grease theme goes. I’ll have to be on the look-out for those photos when they become available.

Over the weekend there have been some rumors going around about a tentative release date for the sequel to JJ Abrams‘s Star Trek film and today Paramount Pictures has confirmed those rumors … Star Trek 2 will be released on stardate June 29, 2012:

This counts as news, but there’s not much to it. We all know there’s a “Star Trek” sequel coming. Hell, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, writers/producers of the May reboot, were talking about sequel possibilities as far back as the week after the first movie came out. Now we have a date to pin our hopes to: June 29, 2012. Nothing else is known or announced, so don’t ask. Maybe director J.J. Abrams will return to helm the sequel, maybe he won’t. Maybe Khan will be the villain, maybe not. For all we know, the plan is to give us an epic “Star Trek Meets Star Wars” crossover. Could happen, right? The news comes from a variety of sources, including Ain’t It Cool News and Box Office Mojo … UPDATE: Paramount has confirmed to MTV that the projected release date for the “Star Trek” sequel is indeed June 29, 2012.

And there you have it. A few of the Star Trek actors, including Zachary Quinto, have been tweeting the news (the flag has been planted. june 29th, 2012. sequel. trek it out.) but until Paramount confirmed the date it wasn’t a done, done deal. I think we all knew that Star Trek 2 would be happening, there’s no surprise there, but now we know when part deux will be unleashed upon the world. I’m excited, are you?

Simon Cowell has just announced that he will be quitting his judging duties on American Idol at the close of this upcoming season. Never fear, tho, Cowell won’t be going far. He is bringing his AI-like show The X Factor to the US (which will also air on Fox) and will be acting as judge on that show instead:

Simon Cowell says that this will be his last season on “American Idol.” The cantankerous judge said that “The X Factor,” a show he created and is a hit in Britain, will join Fox’s schedule next year. Cowell will be on “The X Factor.” Cowell’s decision is the biggest threat yet to what has been the country’s most popular TV program and a true cultural force. This season, original host Paula Abdul has been replaced by Ellen DeGeneres. But Cowell, with his caustic commentary, has long been seen as the big star of “Idol.” Cowell said it would have been difficult for him to do both shows. While he makes a reported $36 million a year to be on “American Idol,” he owns “The X Factor” and could make much more if the show takes off.

Yesterday was another fun, art-filled day for me here in SoCal. As I mentioned yesterday, I was planning to attend an art exhibit at Gallery 1988 titled Under the Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe that featured on display various works of art themed on the classic 80′s cartoon. Let me tell you, the show is absolutely fantastic!

This exhibit at Gallery 1988 will run until January 29 so I urge all y’all here in the SoCal area to check it out. I fell in immediate love with two paintings on display so I had to get my butt down to the gallery to stake my claim and buy them. Last Summer we learned the amazing news that Hottie McHotness Ryan Reynolds has been cast as the lead in the upcoming Green Lantern movie adaptation … today we learn that the film has been given the greenlit to begin filming in March with a tentative release date of June 2011!

Warner Bros. Pictures has moved forward with “Green Lantern”. Visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas recently posted an update about the film through her blog page that this movie adaptation of DC Comics character has got its official green light, MTV reported. “‘Green Lantern’ got the official green light today,” Goulekas wrote on Wednesday, January 6. She additionally hinted that the film will kick off its principal photography in March, claiming “And not a second too soon – only 10 weeks out from shooting!” “The Proposal” actor Ryan Reynolds has been set to play the title character. Meanwhile, there was rumor that “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively and “Elektra” actress Jennifer Garner were among the candidates to be the leading lady. Other names which were also mentioned on the list of possible Green Lantern’s love interest included James Bond’s girl in “Casino Royale” Eva Green, Mission: Impossible 3″ star Keri Russell and Diane Kruger from “Troy”. “Green Lantern” will follow Hal Jordan, an ordinary man who was chosen by a dying alien named Abin Sur to receive a green energy-powered ring used for protecting the planet. Martin Campbell will serve as the man behind the lens while Donald De Line, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Haas will produce. This action adventure movie is set for June 17, 2011 release date in the U.S.

This is great, great news! I love Green Lantern and I am very much looking forward to the release of this film. Because Lantern‘s superpower resides in his power ring, there is sure to be a lot of special effects in the film … and hopefully a shower scene for Ryan Reynolds. OK, mebbe that second bit won’t happen but, well, you never know. Additionally, it turns out that one of the actresses above has been cast in the role of Carol Ferris, Green Lantern‘s love interest in the film. After the jump, find out who it is …

Josh Duhamel and his wife of one year Fergie Ferg celebrated their anniversary last weekend by gettin’ hitched again! RadarOnline is reporting that the couple said their I Dos all over again in an attempt to fortify their lurve for one another (and possibly to white wash those nasty rumors that he was cheating on Ferg with a stripper last year):

On the eve of their first anniversary, Fergie and Josh Duhamel put aside his recent cheating scandal and renewed their wedding vows in a top secret ceremony outside of Santa Barbara, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively. The couple married January 10 in Malibu, and threw a lavish party for their friends and family. This time, it was just the two of them and a minister on a bluff overlooking the ocean. The pair flew by private helicopter into the Santa Barbara Airport Wednesday, January 6 at just before 4 pm. They were met by a limo from the Bacara Resort which swept them to the lavish hotel 20 minutes away. “They were both dressed nicely and walked right out to the bluff outside the hotel where weddings often take place,” an eyewitness told RadarOnline.com. “A minister was waiting for them. “Fergie was crying and seemed very emotional,” the source said, adding that their private ceremony lasted less than 15 minutes. As the sun went down the couple went into Bacara’s formal Miro restaurant where they were able to eat alone because it was before the restaurant had opened for the evening. “They had the whole restaurant to themselves and left before the first customers came in,” the source said. Hand-in-hand, Josh and Fergie left the hotel as quietly as they arrived, and returned to the airport for their trip back to Los Angeles.

Awwww … you gotta admit, this sounds romantic, y’all. I bet it doesn’t suck to be married to Josh Duhamel, not one bit. I understand that Josh has revealed that he is hoping to remarry Fergie Ferg on a yearly basis … if so, they would mirror long-time couple Heidi Klum and Seal who also renew their wedding vows on their anniversary. Congrats and love, again, goes out to the happy couple on their nuptials! Here’s to a Happy new year of marriage for the both of them!!

I mean, yeah, the look is kinda tacky but I understand that J. Lo was gracious enough to make time to pose for photos with a group of Italian tourists who noticed her wearing this bold sweater. It’s fairly common knowledge that Jenny from the Block doesn’t often deign to acknowledge normal people so it’s nice to know that in this instance she was happy to pose for photos with her fans. I guess she really does have a heart after all.
